  1. Nah, I don't think Beltran's the reason either. My dad has this theory that he's a "toxic" player and has ruined the chemistry of the team, but I think that's crap too. The Giants just can't put together 3 consistent months of winning ever. They didn't in the playoffs, and they can't really in the regular season. I'm not really a Wilson fan either, so I think they've done better without him. Hell, even I could walk the bases loaded in the 9th every game I pitch. As for the A's, they'll probably scramble everything offseason again so I doubt they'll go out and try and grab a bunch of new players now. They always seem to completely change their team each year yet still end up with pretty much the same record. As for the food at the games, I've always thought Giants games had the better food. Those garlic fries...
  2. I feel like cross-platform support is a good thing for me at least. I suck at CounterStrike something awful now, but put me up against a bunch of people trying to play with a gamepad and I'm sure I'll do fine.
  3. Same here. I'm not sure what that says about me... Either way, sounds fun. Working all day today (PST US, not sure how that compares for everyone else), but I'm definitely interested in watching the stream if I'm around.
  4. Giants have been going downhill since they got Beltran, honestly. That being said, I'm not really a Giants fan. I'll stick with my consistently mediocre A's.
  5. Borderlands is the Steam weekend deal this week it looks like. $7.50 for the GOTY edition, which is pretty much stupid cheap.
  6. The Serious Sam games are Steam's midweek madness sales and if you haven't picked any of them up I'd certainly recommend them. No cover, tons of guns, and hundreds of enemies that just increase when you add more players. Die a lot, kill a lot.
  7. What I've seen of it is the TotalBiscuit videos with the Tripwire devs (who were also the voices of the Killing Floor characters) and that was certainly interesting. It didn't show the large 64 player battles, but did show the cover system, damage modeling, graphics, and movement speed which was neat. I'm not 100% sure I'll preorder, but it does look like a game I'll probably be picking up before the next steam sales for sure.
  8. It's a lot cheaper than BF3 and MW3 which is definitely enough for me to be interested.
  9. Shoot dudes. World War II. Developer: Tripwire (Killing Floor) Release Date: September 13th Price: $35 Anyone planning on getting this/interested? Never played the RO series, but seems as good a time as any to jump on the bandwagon.
  10. I saw the Giantbomb Quicklook and I suddenly got a lot more interested in it. I probably won't be getting it at launch, but I'm definitely going to give the demo a shot and see if I can justify spending the $50 on it or just wait for it in a steam sale. It looks great, but I'm a little wary of how the PC controls will handle as well. It definitely looks like it could work a little better on console.
  11. Are you playing with friends/coop? I thought Magicka was a pretty bad game in SP the first few times I played it in the demo, but when I started the coop it became a lot more fun. And yeah, agreed on the controls. Not great, but for button mashing and trying to figure out certain spells they're actually pretty good. I'm more of the type to just spam ARSE mines, though.
  12. So GTAIV has Securom, Rockstar Social Club, Steam, and Games for Windows Live. That's a lot of DRM/shit to be bundled in a game.

GTA4 tops out as "game I spent most of my time just trying to get it to start because of DRM bullshit."

I remember installing some game that had DRM that was incompatible with Windows 7. The pirated version worked, because it didn't use the DRM.

I was able to get it up and running in about 10 minutes, but I doubt I'll even bother trying to turn back all of this if I move it from computer to computer.

  13. Borderlands. Again, this time on PC. And you know, I still feel like I haven't really found every type of gun that algorithm can generate.
  14. That would be ideal. There's a part of me that is still wary of Source being used in a multiplayer shooter, but Half Life 2 Deathmatch is still a blast online so that may just be pessimism on my part.
  15. Should get the paycheck tomorrow and will probably be buying Deus Ex and Dawn of War II (provided the sale is still happening) soon after that. Eventually I'll probably go for Red Orchestra 2 and Bastion since my interest in Battlefield 3 and From Dust seems to have subsided sufficiently.
  16. Deus Ex 3 is coming out in 3 days. Boy, never thought I'd say that.

It looks so damn good. I better finish Deus Ex 1 before then!

2012 will most definitely fatten up our backlogs.

  17. 650W is more than enough for that build, I think. You can get away with 550W or even 450W (from a quality manufacturer) if you need to as well. I'm a NVIDIA guy mostly, but the 6870 is a good card. As far as building new vs. updating your card, I'm always for building anew, but that looks like a good upgrade all around. Even though I had to RMA my recent 560 Ti, I still like EVGA and NVIDIA just because it's what I've always stuck with. In your price range, though, I think the 6870 is the best card in your price range. As for the NVIDIA vs. ATI thing, check your games as Yantelope said. For example, Borderlands and Bad Company 2 run better on my 560 Ti than my friends 6970, but Assassin's Creed and Fallout New Vegas run better on his ATI card. It's not worth buying a lesser NVIDIA card for one game in your case, but it is something to think about when you start getting in the $200+ range. I'd definitely check out the buildapc subreddit as well if you're still undecided on GPUs or PSUs.
  18. Agreed. I would be sort of angry if I got to the end and it was all perfectly happy. That's not Fallout at all.
  19. Yeah, I'm on my second playthrough and going Wild Card this time. What I liked about the NV factions is that there really isn't one good ending to choose from. Obviously the Legion is the "bad" ending, but siding with the NCR or going Wild Card or Mr. House are all variations of "good", with no one ending leaving New Vegas in perfect condition.
  20. Yeah, it's awfully similar to BC2. There are new guns and new sound effects but guns like the M249 feel identical to their BC2 counterparts. I personally disagree on the shooting, I feel the BC2 shooting is very meaty and just inaccurate enough to be challenging, but I think the sound might be a large reason I like the weapons in BC2 so much.
  21. I thought The Invention of Lying was just plain bad, which is too bad because I usually really like Ricky Gervais.
  22. That's the best analogy I've heard about this so far. Steam is far from a perfect application (Origin is actually far more stable), but there are certain things about Origin that just irk me to no end. You can't change your name/handle after your first login (which I've mentioned here before) and you have to choose from stock avatars EA provides. If Origin was better than Steam as a program and service, I'd probably be happy to use it in place of Steam for my EA games, but at the moment there is no real benifit to Origin over Steam other than it looks like BF3 will be on it.
  23. I think it makes sense to at least give the option for more than one. In my case, I moved BC2 to my new computer and for some reason EA lost all my previous soldier stats, requiring me to start over from level 0. It wasn't a big deal (I actually liked unlocking all the weapons again) but it could be an underhanded way of setting up a one-machine activation system for the multiplayer if your one soldier is tied to your machine rather than your account.
  24. Finished Fallout: New Vegas NCR Ending today. Reckon I might playthrough for the Wild Card ending next. Probably going to wait on the DLC until the last pieces come out and they get cheap again.
