  1. I use "book it" quite a bit in place of "peg it", I think. And although I don't like it, I find myself saying "hella" a lot more than I should. Stupid Northern California and it's slang.
  2. It's amazing how 3 months ago Battlefield 3 was a must buy for me, but now it's a "probably never going to buy until it goes on Steam". The number of ways EA and DICE have fucked it up is crazy.

Until Steam decides to actually work in offline mode, I'm going to avoid it.

Hey, look at the bright side... I can get Dark Souls AND Skyrim with the funds that was going to go to BF3!

The fact that they did a "september beta" and then are releasing the beta on the 2nd to last day of september is just sad.

  3. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/20/battlefield-3-open-beta-begins-september-29/ Open beta starts the 29th. And guess what, only rush on Operation Metro. If they had done some conquest or even a different rush map I would probably be a lot more interested, but Operation Metro is pretty awful, in my opinion.
  4. Valve knows how big the Half-Life franchise is, and they know fans want the next part. They've been awful hush-hush about it, and considering all of their other major franchises have gotten updates or will be getting updates, all that's left to take care of is Half-Life. Honestly, I won't be surprised if they bust out a brand new engine for it. They might use a beefed up version of Source, but a new engine wouldn't surprise me either. I sure hope they bust out a whole new engine, but as this does look to be more of a continuation of the episodic content rather than a full length Half-Life 3 I would be pleasantly surprised if that happened. This "weaponizer" thing sounds like it could warrant a new engine, though, just like the Gravity Gun and Source. If anything hints at a possible new engine, it's the weaponizer_liquid line. Liquids are notoriously difficult to properly render on computers. They either don't look right, or they don't behave right. Definitely, but I think it all depends on the nature of the liquid. Portal 2's fork of Source rendered its gels really well, better than any other game I've ever seen, but I feel like Valve definitely "cheated" a little bit with the liquid textures and made them solid color rather than some sort of transparency and that's why they rendered so well. I think Source can do liquid physics and rendering well, but I'm not 100% sold on its competence with transparency.

  6. I don't really care about the weapons for EP3, to be honest. All I care about is that it happens, and hopefully this means we'll be getting a little bit closer.
  7. Hehe, lots of DR love on this thread. I POSTED THEM FIRST GUIZE. GUIZE. I POSTED THEM FIRST. I saw them live last year and they were pretty great as well. I half expected them to go up on stage drunk or high but instead they got up there and killed it. They're the first band I've ever seen that can pull off the "don't give a fuck" attitude live and actually sound good doing it.
  8. Mirrors Edge, Mount and Blade Complete (Great minds think alike, MaliciousH), and then Battlefront II because of the fond memories of playing that on PS2 with my brother.
  9. I've noticed a few bugs, but they've mostly been crash to desktop menu and UI bugs, and less bugs in the actual gameplay. Stat tracking is a little dicked up, but there is definitely a game there beneath some of the bugs. I've heard them referred to as "Tripwire Quirks" and that made a lot of sense to me.
  10. I think I'll write up a review of Dino D-Day because I actually have the "pleasure" of owning that game. I'm interested in this, but I'll have to see how writing this up goes. If you don't want to use it, that's cool, I know I haven't been here long, but I figure it's worth a shot.
  11. I think I dislike the concept more than I actually dislike the execution. I don't want ads in my games, and I don't really want them patched in after release, but this doesn't seem as bad as it could be. A little ad at the corner of a loading screen I rarely see doesn't seem that bad, I'm personally more worried about whats been going on with some TF2 servers where they have pop up commercials instead of the regular map video. I also really don't mind some ingame ads like billboards, and somewhat enjoyed BF3 advertising itself in the alpha. If ads are going to start showing up in games (and I'm pretty sure they will), I suppose there are worse ways to do it than this. More than anything, though, this makes me a little worried about Eidos Montreal. I figured they were in some financial trouble, but patching in ads to their game after release makes me think things aren't looking good for future games from them.
  12. But... Dead Horde. EDIT: Ninja edited I see.

  14. I'll probably play a little bit tomorrow night but I'm stuck downloading it for most of tonight. Were you in the beta?
  15. I think you hit the nail on the head here. I remember watching a BFBC2 somewhat competitive match where the way they filmed it was having 2 guys sit on top of a hill with mortar designators looking down on the rest of the map and trying to "commentate". And if I remember correctly, this was a pretty high profile event, with fairly high profile teams. Sure, the gameplay was exciting enough, and I knew the map and the teams pretty well, but the asinine way of commentating and actually observing the match really took the excitement out of it, and without the excitement and action of the games E-sports doesn't really have any audience outside the other e-sport "athletes". Without better ways of recording and capturing the games I just can't see it getting big anytime soon.
  16. If I had to pick one, It'd probably actually be the Microsoft Flight Simulator games. Yeah, odd choice, but I have clocked so many hours in those games, downloaded so many addons and scenery, and even after playing 2002, 2004, and X to death, I don't really feel I've mastered them, because, well, I can't fly a real plane. But if you want to fly a 747 upside down under the Golden Gate Bridge, I'm your guy.
  17. Red Orchestra 2 can now be preloaded. Awwww yeaaaah.

I use a mixture of the claw and the palm, kinda a half-palm. I think the reason it's never felt very uncomfortable to me is the amount of time I spend using a laptop trackpad, which is mostly claw.
  19. I was pretty little at the time, and all I really remember of it was turning on the TV in the morning because I got up at like 6:00 and seeing the images on every single channel. Of course, being on PST time I tuned in before the 2nd plane hit the towers, but after the 1st so I kinda heard what was happening in between and all, trying to get the people out of the 2nd tower, etc. I was young, though, so in all honesty I didn't really care about any of that and the scope of the disaster didn't hit me until they talked about it a little at school. As a kid, I didn't really care that 1,000 or more people were slowly dying, I wanted to know why there was no sports on ESPN, as bizarre as that sounds.

    Mice

The future of PC mice is glowing shit with functions I don't use for two to three times what I'd normally pay? I'll be over here stocking up on Intellimouse Explorer 3.0's before it's too late. >_> Haha, I was more referencing the Kotaku Razer Blade article. Myself, I've still got some shitty Logitech wireless thing I got with this pack a few years ago, but recently the keyboard has started to lag for 10-30 seconds in the worst possible times. I've never once remembered it lagging in the middle of typing a paper, but it does seem to enjoy fucking with me while playing BC2 or something. Anyway, I think if I get rid of the mouse I'll be getting rid of the keyboard as well (they appear to be tied into the same wireless receiver), so any suggestions for keyboards?
  21. Bought a Droid X2 today on Verizon. Oh man, everything is so shiny.

Do you guys have the latest version of Google's Music app? It's not bad at all.

If you're not going to store local files, then no, don't buy PowerAMP. And yes, Google Music is pretty awesome.

In terms of other stuff I like, there's Fruit Ninja, NyanCannon, Kindle (or Nook), Google Authenticator (for top-level Google account security), Cracked, Dungeon Defenders, Evernote, Game Dev Story, JetCarStunts, Minecraft Canary, Pulse, NYTimes, Dropbox, etc. If there's a good app on iPhone, give it a search on Android Market. You'll be surprised at h...

Yeah, Evernote and Dropbox were the first things I installed. Thanks for the suggestions, though, I'll check them out, although I'm a bit scared of NyanCannon.
