  1. I wish that was only book stores. "I can buy that cheaper in the shop down the road". Then why are you buying it here and moaning at me rather than buying it there? Mind you I could have an entire thread about how stupid customers are. r/talesfromretail is kinda like that. Really just ends up depressing me though.
  2. I work at a bookstore. I really really want to hear how you can get a book cheaper on Amazon a few hundred times a day. Really appreciated, and definitely news to me.
  3. Alpha Centauri, Arma 1, and Startopia from the GOG sale. Cities in Motion 2 and Mafia 2 from Steam sales.
  4. It's more a matter of what the WC stands for and all. For as long as I've remembered the World Cup often goes to a nation with some sort of developing league, strong but still struggling national team, or place that's beautiful but needs a tourism kickstart. You're right, from an economic perspective it does make sense. From a soccer perspective, it's puzzling. Qatar has none of the things mentioned above, and that's before we even get into the topic of the weather the months of the year the WC is typically held.
  5. Most recent Humble Bundle. Mostly for Frozen Synapse on my Nexus 7.
  6. If we're talking on this point, it's not half as shameful as the World Cup going to Qatar.
  7. I'm getting back into it after not having played for 4 years (and even then was just for about a month). It's just as enjoyable as it ever was, but it's also just as demanding and addicting.
  8. It's also part of Steam's early access thing, and those games don't seem to get cheap very often.
  9. Edit: Nevermind, read this as "NFL Thread"
  10. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-22832994 I'm not even sure where to put this, but it's far too good not to share.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but have they ever made a real point of this? I remember the previous E3 gameplay previews and all that as well, but off the top of my head I don't ever remember them putting the focus on the AI, that was always the people who watched the demos and wrote about them.
  12. I feel like this belongs in this thread, since it's related news, but CCP (EVE developers) recently hired Mintchip, a rather polarizing (and female) member of the community. She's a bit of a character; run a Youtube channel (that previously bashed EVE and CCP pretty vocally), had a few naked pictures circulate, and has in general badmouthed the game she just got hired to promote. The community has well, lost their shit. I don't really feel like synthesizing all of it, but there's a few reddit threads and CCP forum threads that are rather... enlightening.

    Windows 8

Taskbars on all monitors, desktop backgrounds independent of monitor, metro on one monitor, desktop on other, that kind of stuff. Course 3rd party programs have been doing that kind of stuff for eons, but it's still a welcome change.
  14. Well. Better multi-monitor support for one, faster boot ups, better task manager, better Windows Explorer, improved backend (system idle processes use less memory in Windows 8 than 7 for me), and equal/better gaming performance (before someone says Windows 8 performs worse in-game because of the Metro stuff) to name a few. Now that's simply not true. Since we're going on anecdotal evidence here, I only see Windows 8 getting slammed by people who have never used it and do the kneejerk "Metro bad" thing. If we're going off of actual reviews, Tom's Hardware loved it, Ars Technica was alright with it, Techspot liked it, you get the idea. I'll admit it's not as well-liked as 7 was, but calling it universally panned is a bit silly.
  15. I'm kind of with FDS on this one. I wasn't much into Windows 8 when I first tried it, but after tweaking it a bit I've actually grown to like it quite a bit more than 7. The lack of start button never bothered me as I just hit the Windows key anyway, and the performance boosts are well worth my money IMO.
  16. If you're paying full retail price anyway, there isn't much reason to get 7 nowadays IMO. 8 may have its quirks, but at its core it's just a mostly improved 7, nothing on the level of the Vista/XP shenanigans. Just go with 8 if you're going to pay 100 bucks for it anyway.
  17. I know. I watched it. Maybe I'm just feeling burnt out on the whole Kickstarter thing, I don't know.
  18. This is cool and all, but I feel like Double Fine shouldn't quite be asking for this given the success of Broken Age. Why not just wait until Broken Age is released and use the loads of cash they've raked in from that to fund this? I know nothing of their financial situation, but from an outsider (and one without much money to toss into these things), it seems like they shouldn't have much trouble funding this, as I know they'll at least make profit on their documentary and Broken Age. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say Double Fine don't have a great track record as compared to many of the other other game kickstarters I can think of, but I as a consumer feel slightly burnt out at this point and feel like they're in a good enough place to not need to do this anymore.
  19. It seems like I've been seeing you play a lot on Steam. Was that all a single game? How long is a game on average? Longer than Civ? I've heard great things about the game and I'm curious but that learning curve seems so daunting. It's not comparable to Civ IMO. Much much longer. Think of it more as a Total War campaign length.
