Out. You guys can do what you want, but... it just doesn't feel right to me. There's the danger, too. And besides... an open-source, high power computing machine? Why gosh... that sounds like a COMPUTER. Which I have. So why aren't we just using that, again? PSP, I could understand, because it's portable, but this just seems silly to me.

[SPLIT] Bad Localizations - Why Do We Care?

You, sir, just made my signature. -
Wow, so much hate in such a small place. I'm excited for DA2, and I think nearly (if not all) of the changes are quite welcome. Haters, please name ONE bad Bioware game. Oh, you can't? Then maybe you should give them a little credit, and wait til the game is actually OUT to write it off.

Because... they're different... characters.... Jack, come on. Akuma is rushdown, Ryu is more defensive. Akuma's individual hits do more, Ryu has better combos. That's like asking "why would you play Juri when Chun-Li is right there." I wouldn't, personally, but it's not a fair comparison. EDIT: ESPECIALLY when the Versus series exaggerates this difference like it does, giving Ryu the Shinku Hadouken as his go-to Hyper while giving Akuma a sort of evil Shoryureppa. In Street Fighter, they're pretty different. In MvC, they're INCREDIBLY different. EDIT2: Plus... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwC7M-a3T58 Ryu's got some tricks of his own.

This game represents my full-on exploitation of game design oversights. Say it with me folks- "STORM DRAGON!" Cheapest. Style. Ever. When it paralyzes the FINAL BOSS completely, you know you have a problem. I enjoyed it, though... but it was no KotOR. Solid, but not stunning.
-
They really don't play the same, though, Jack. Akuma plays very, VERY differently from Ryu. Ryu is an all-around projectile character that uses his fireballs to make any approach difficult. He's a corner-pressure character, with no real weaknesses. Akuma is an anywhere-pressure character- he uses the variable angles of his fireballs to control where you can and can't safely stand, he has incredible offense, weak defense, and some killer combos. Some of the shotos, they really are too similar, but the beauty of Ryu and Akuma has always been how incredibly differently they play despite the relative similarity of their moves. Plus... The Shun Goku Satsu... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gb1ZQaj1zc0 The Kongou Kokuretsu Zan... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYFhJdXkPW0 And the MISOGI. His onslaught of badass moves cannot be denied.

Knowing Capcom? DLC. Though personally, I'm glad to see some of the more annoying members of the cast gone. MvC3, from videos, is not NEARLY as annoying in action as MvC2 was. "ICE BEAM! ICE BEAM! ICE BEAM! ARCTIC ATTACK! YOUR MOVE! OPTIC BLAST! OPTIC BLAST! VIPER BEAM! BEHOLD, OPTIC BLAST! HYPER VIPER BEAM!" Shit drove me CRAZY.

I'm with you there, friend. Tekken... well, I've already expressed my dislike. By the way, we've somehow not yet posted the leaked character roster. There were, of course, a lot of leaked character rosters, but this one has been pretty consistently right... anything bolded has yet to be confirmed, but everything else has been. Marvel Captain America Deadpool Doctor Doom Dormammu Galactus (Boss, not playable) Hulk Iron Man Magneto M.O.D.O.K. Phoenix Sentinel She-Hulk Shuma-Gorath (DLC) Spiderman Storm Super Skrull Taskmaster Thor Wolverine X-23 Capcom Akuma Albert Wesker Amaterasu Arthur Chris Redfield Chun-Li Crimson Viper Dante Felicia Hsien-Ko Jill Valentine (DLC) Mike Haggar Morrigan Aensland Nathan Spencer Ryu Trish Tron Bonne Viewtiful Joe Zero It's worth noting that, since this list came out (months ago), Jill and Shuma were announced as DLC, Akuma and Taskmaster were accidentally leaked through official artwork, and Haggar and Phoenix from the list have been officially announced as well. So it's looking pretty accurate.

Well, that's part of the reason for MvC3's smaller cast- so that balance work is actually possible. MvC2 was a fuckin' mess, though, you're right. I would still say the Vs. Series was one of the best, because... what's it's fuckin' competition? Soulcalibur, Mortal Kombat, Tekken? Don't make me laugh. BlazBlue and Street Fighter are better, but after that, there are no real fighters that are balanced enough for real pro play. Capcom kinda dominates the scene. (Plus the BlazBlue/Guilty Gear people, of course) Maybe SNK will get its head in the game and deliver a good fighter again for the first time in a long time. KOFXII was weaksauce, maybe XIII will be decent.

I know what you mean about Ratio 1 against those two- I started going one Ratio 3 fighter, with a second Ratio 1 as in ace in the hole, just in case. They really do just murder you, though =P I don't personally think CvS2 is going to be dethroned, but MvC3 better than MvC2? For sure. MvC2 was such an unbalanced nightmare, the ability to do patches alone means that MvC3 will be far better IMO. Plus... Dante and Deadpool. That is win right there. Yeah, saw that, Dean. It makes me very happy, rage quitters in fighting games are a huge downer.

As much as I hate much of the staff, I really, really love Totilo. He's just a smart man, and a great writer. Bash can go to hell, though. Talentless hack.
-
Oh man, you HAVE to get CvS2. They added this great system where... well, where no character has an inherent ratio value? You can tweak it. Like, you could have a team of Zangief, Ryu, Terry, where Ryu is Ratio 2, and the other two are Ratio 1, or you can do Zangief and Ryu both as 2s (or Gief 1, Ryu 3), or you can just have one character that is Ratio 4.... it's really awesome, there are pros and cons to everything. Only good with one character? Choose them at Ratio 4. Like to mix and match so that you can handle any foe? Make a bigger team. Tons of fun. Though when you run into one of the bosses, like Shin Akuma, they're always Ratio 4, and they just fuckin' MURDER you =P

Does anyone remember when Nintendo tried to make that fucking plumber their mascot? Man, was that a dumb idea. trollface.jpg

See I thought the game was awesome. VJ2 was a phoned in sequel but still fun as well. Yeah, I loved the hell out of Viewtiful Joe. Though I don't think there's a Clover game that I didn't love.

My father made me these immense shelves for my birthday one year, and I store them all on there, organized in a very specific manner that doesn't make a lot of sense to anyone else (first, by brand- Microsoft, Nintendo, then Sony; then by descending order of release- PS3, PS2, PS1, for instance; then alphabetically EXCEPT for when sequels would be placed before their predecessor alphabetically- example, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within comes before Prince of Persia: Two Thrones). I'd have to borrow a camera, but pictures sounds doable.

The Versus series! Some of the best, most loved fighting games ever made. And we're about to get Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which looks absolutely amazing. Will it finally dethrone Capcom vs. SNK 2 as the best fighting game ever made? Who do you think they'll announce in the next month? And how in God's name is Frank West not in it, I mean seriously. Personally, I want to see Gene from God Hand, but that seems like the longest of shots, given that God Hand didn't sell very well.
-
The difference is, Disney dug up new extras, interviews, and shit each time in an effort to make the product more valuable. Nintendo didn't.
-
Well, but it brings up an interesting point, though. It's nice when game companies add stuff post-launch, but the old model was to release entirely new versions for that content, and that was a whole bunch of bullshit, I think we can agree. Frankly, between that and launch DLC, it's no contest.
-
X-Men Arcade Street Fighter IV Xenogears Not that I'm bitter or anything.
-
EX is different than Alpha, dean, but we fighting game people appreciate the effort =P Street Fighter 2, Super Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting... Huh. Somehow, I prefer DLC to that. Sorry, wasn't creating this post to be sarcastic, but as I wrote that list up, I realized how much that shit used to piss me off.
-
I agree with you, Ethan, but the thing is, companies like Capcom have screwed people often enough that now most gamers are super paranoid about it. Super Street Fighter's first trailer contained costumes and such that ended up being cut and released as DLC despite the fact that they clearly were completely done, and had been for months. That sort of thing leaves people a little gunshy.

Thank you. I figured that's what it was, I just needed to hear someone say it. Time to spend some Microsoft Points!

Wise Man's Fear comes out March 1st, mark your calendars =)
-
Okay, okay. I know I need to get this game, but I need someone to help me put aside my fears. I read reviews of it, and I was like "Yeah, alright, kickass, this sounds gr- TOWER DEFENSE? Aw hell no." I am so godawful at tower defense, and I hate it, so please someone tell me it's not as tower defense-y as the reviews made it sound.

Crow opens his front door, a pizza delivery guy is there. Delivery Driver: Uhhh... Mr. Crow? Two meat lovers pizzas? Crow: Yes. Delivery Driver: Okay, that'll be $15.43. (Crow hands him a fifty.) Uhhh... sorry, dude, I don't have change for a fifty, do you have anything smaller? Crow: Keep the money. Use it to buy a funeral. (Slams door) Delivery Driver: ...Thank you? Maybe?
