  1. Steam log: "GaryOak ([k]) [6264]: Words are hrad" "GaryOak ([k]) [6264]: hard" ...Yep, pretty tired.

  2. There are plenty of people into fighting games, Shaner. Many of them don't frequent IP chat, that's all.
  3. Okay. Topics... here's how this is going to work. Every podcast is going to have a central, primary topic, that will be the core of discussion. I am going to drop a list of what primary topics I have so far- feel free to suggest more. If you like the sound of a particular topic, and want to participate, say so and we'll add your name to the list. Once a list fills up to a certain point, it will become the next podcast that we will do. So these podcasts will be made as they fill up. Currently, I'm planning for biweekly podcasts. This next one will take a little longer, but once we get into the rhythm of it, it should go pretty smoothly. Only sign up for a topic if you are knowledgeable about the topic, and able to discuss it with others for a significant length of time. I'll try to have a brief discussion with potential members on chat or something to verify their knowledge and ability to casually talk about it- it wouldn't do to start the podcast on, say, fighting games, and learn that two members have never played Street Fighter. Obviously, just because you're on the list does not mean you will be in the podcast. Once the list fills up to a certain point, I'll work out schedules, and those people who show knowledge and are available at the right times will get priority. With all that said... here is our current primary topics list. -Fighting Games -Video Games as Art -The DLC Debate -Innovation in Games These are pretty broad topics, and we don't have very many, and so on. So help out! Contribute! Suggest topics, and ways to refine the topics that we have!
  4. Alright. Before we can really get anywhere, we have a few basic needs. First off, we need some intro/outtro music. I'm trying to do something about that, but frankly, I have no real composition talent. We could probably get away with using some game music, but that's technically not fully legal, so let's not go down that road. We want a brief, maybe 15 second piece of music to usher in the podcast, and another to usher it out. If you have musical skill, talk ta me, we could use your gifts. Second, we do need structure. I have some ideas as to how I think that should work. Essentially, each podcast will be focused around a central topic- this topic will be the main topic that we discuss, and will change every episode. Beyond that, though, we need some recurring features- the What Are You Playing segment should obviously be one, but one or two more would be good also. If you have ideas, let's communicate. The issues with recording have been worked out, that was just oversight due to lack of experience. Topics, I will post more in depth about later- I'm about to go to bed, and I'll do it after I awaken. I have some strong ideas about that, and I think it's going to go over pretty well. Is there anything I'm forgetting? Dean, I know that the first podcast was bad- that's no secret. I had a few days to put it all together, and I had no idea how my efforts would work out. I've never done this before. So the amount of experience and learning that the 'cast gave me is beyond measure. Our crew was less than optimally constructed, our topic list not related to the people we were running with, and as you noticed, Harri just stopped talking for a long time. It was very much not good. But hell, this is a first try. Of course it is bad. The rule of podcasts, from what I hear, is that the first three are always piss, and then it usually gets better from there. I'm hoping we can make number 2 a doozie, though. And while I can't comment too much on EpicBattleAxe, I don't want things THAT formulaic. Structure is good to keep things moving, but when the structure begins to stifle interesting conversation, you've gone too far.
  5. This sounds like an excellent idea. I've got a lot of new ideas about how to organize future podcasts- essentially, I want to make them topic focused, recruiting people for them based on their interest in the topic. I'll provide more details for this later. I did? ...DAMMIT! I didn't mean to do that! XD
  6. The first TAY Podcast, Chat Amongst Yourselves - Episode Zero, is UP! Head to the TAY Podcast thread in Forum Welcome, and give it a listen... then, if you're interested, contact me to be part of the next ones!

*puts on mustache* Why cheerio, that Shaner fellow was quite entertaining, what, what.

  7. So! Here it is. The first Chat Amongst Yourselves podcast. I'll be honest- it didn't turn out amazingly. We had our fair share of problems, technical, conversational, and other. The mistakes made during this one- thankfully edited down from its original length- taught me a fair bit about what we need to improve, and how to do it. That said... it's out. We actually did it, we actually have something to show for our efforts. Lots of room to make it better, and we can do so. Interested people... contact me, post in this thread, PM, IP Chat, Steam, whatever. We can make shit happen. We can really turn this into a deal. If you're interested, I would like a voice sample and a list of times that you will be available on the average week- obviously schedules fluctuate, just give us an idea of how it usually goes. I won't share this information with others without your permission, I respect your privacy. Next time- better recording, better topics, better conversation. Let's make it happen! Chat Amongst Yourselves - Episode 0 Cast: SixTwoSixFour, AdventChaos, VicariousShaner, Harri, and Brainhurtboy...2
  8. Alright! Our first podcast is going to recorded tomorrow evening, with a crew of myself, Harri, Shaner, Brain, and Connor, assuming that everyone can make it. We have some backups who are willing to replace them if some of the crew can't make it. After it's done, I'll get to work on editing. Not positive how long that will take, but I expect to have it up by Sunday.
  9. Attention, people interested in the TAY Podcast! There is a pretty important new post on the thread, and I would appreciate it if you would check it out. If you're not interested in the podcast... well. Carry on =P

  10. Folks, I know it's been a bit chaotic, sorting things out here. I want to thank you all for your patience as we work things out... and ask just a little more of ya. If anyone who is currently interested in the podcast could fire me a PM with your availability for this upcoming week- let's say starting Thursday going to next Wednesday, because this will take a few days to make happen. Please include times per day when you will be free to do this, and your time zone. I can't promise you guys that the original setup will be preserved- we're doing this based on overlap. The people who will be free at times that work will get priority over people who won't be. I'm sorry if people who signed up early won't get in based on that, but that's the only way this will work. Harri has given me permission to take a stab at making this work, and I know we can do it, you guys. Please get me your availability, and we'll fire this bitch up. EDIT: Also, feel free to contact me on PM or Steam with any concerns or ideas you may have. My Steam profile link on my profile page should actually work now, unlike before =P
  11. Since you seem to be having trouble with this concept... watch the video that YOU linked, and count the number of Enhanced Moves Liu Kang does. Or Johnny Cage. Very, very few? Yeah. What were you saying, again? =P In Street Fighter, people use EX all the goddamn time. In MK, with some characters it's worth it, with some characters it's just not. And an option that is never useful is not an option, it's just clutter.
  12. Soooooo... is this not gonna happen, or what...?
  13. The stupidest thing I've seen all day... was on Kotaku. What a surprise. "To this day, SC2 is still the best fighting game ever made. No game since has eclipsed it. Here's hoping they can recapture the magic of 1 and 2."

It was that last part that really irked me actually :P I agree with SC2 not being as good though. As for Capcom, I think it's a thread for itself. SF2 basically did what WoW did for MMOs, only with more impact since the industry itself wasn't as advanced as it is now. SF2 combined a lot of pre-existing elements from various takes on fighting games by combining them into something... hm... I wouldn't say playable, but rather "fun". It did define the genre from there on. SF4...

Well, crap, I wrote a wall of text and the status thing shortened it... Ghah, I'll make a thread about it someday and talk about it there. I like talking about this topic.

      Mr. GOH!

S/he thought starcraft 2 was a fighting game? That *is* rather dim.

  14. Shit, son, this is now a poetry reading thread. Songs count. Get on it! EDIT: Let no man say that Six does not comply to his own decree. Fucked up for a sec in the fifth verse, though.
  15. Pow. Six in a nutshell. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28239108/crazytalk.wma
  16. I'm not a Bethesda fan either, Aga, for the record. I feel like they make amazing games, and then cripple them in some very crucial way. It's like creating a beautiful work of art and then ripping the corner off. Drives me crazy about them. That said, I just think our criticism should be a little more connected to actual observations, rather than just pessimistic stabs in the dark.
  17. I'm not saying the CONCEPT is worthless. It works in plenty of other fighters. But in MK, they are not enhanced enough to make it worth the cost.
  18. Reading this thread is like reading a Michael Pachter report. You guys take the slightest fact and spin it into wildly unrelated negative feedback. It has mountains, so it must be linear? It uses DX9, so it must be console focused? Do you even LISTEN to yourselves anymore? (Note: Not directed at everyone here. You know who you are.)
  19. Personally, what draws ME to her is that she is funny, believable, charming, and not overtly sexualized. You never seen an INCH of her skin. Seeing her face after I've invested time in a relationship with her, however, would be appreciated. I know it's hard if not impossible to please everyone... but you could say that about ME3 as a whole. That doesn't mean the game shouldn't be made, that doesn't mean they shouldn't try.
  20. Speaking as the partner that you "lost" because he played with another human being for ONCE... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_cSnpoKMMk Seriously, it was two hours on a Saturday night. Relax.
  21. Yeah, that probably is a lot of it. Actually, I don't really have any childhood memories or anything associated with any fighting games, except maybe Killer Instinct. I got into the scene pretty late in life- late high school- and at that point, Mortal Kombat seemed... hrm. I don't know how to say this without being insulting.
  22. Speaking as something of a fighting game elitist... the actual fighting system is weak, is below the standard of Capcom and SNK (and Aksys) fighters, I feel. But it's certainly closer to being competitive than any other MK has ever been. They didn't quite make it, I think, but it's a big step in the right direction. If they do a sequel and keep on working on it, it could be a real competitive fighter. The single player options are just plain better than other fighting games, and shine a harsh light on how little the genre has advanced since the arcade days. I don't like it. I spent a little time with a friend's copy, and I don't like it, partially because I never liked the world, style, or characters of MK. I won't get petty about that one, but yeah, never cared for it. But this is the best they've ever done, and if they pushed a little more, it could be a tournament worthy game. Enhanced Special Moves are worthless though, and Breakers don't always work, which is weak.
  23. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461 Hrm. Wonder who I got that for... =P
