Season 1 was a bit of a hot-mess. Underwhelming loot, poor messaging, and problems with server stability. However the community seems pretty excited by what Season 2 is promising with significantly better gear, skins and unlockables, a map that's seem some pretty sizeable changes since season 1 and i dunno, dragons? Bring it on!

This is not true in the sequel. Discuss.

Mario Maker 2 I didn't really get into Mario Maker on the WiiU. I put this mainly down to kinda-absolutely-hating the WiiU as a console, and to some extent I think that's right. I'm certainly having more fun with MM2 than I did with its predecessor but I'm still hit with this niggling feeling that maybe the game just isn't quite for me. I love seeing some of the levels people have created, and don't get me wrong, Mario platforming is always fun, but I can't shake the feeling that I'm just not really good enough to truly get the most out of this game. Some of that is down to the frankly piss-poor way Nintendo surfaces new levels to players (good luck getting anyone playing your level if you're not outwardly broadcasting it outside the game), and the slightly frustrating way you're thrown back to the front end of a level when you die (I know that's a staple of Mario platformers, I've just kind of moved past that now - Get me straight back into the action!). That being said, it's still an endless stream of amazing Mario levels on a console that I can take with me, or play on a TV. Even if I don't love it as much as some, I'm absolutely certain that I'm going to put a fuck-tonne of hours into this one. Apex Legends So I'm the forums BR guy eh? Yup, I'm still playing Apex. It's still an absolute blast. Season 2 hits in 12 or so hours, and I cannot wait.

Cuphead Much to my own surprise, I think Cuphead is one of my favourite games of all time. It's brutally hard, but the way in which it handles that difficulty never left me feeling like I was cheated, it never left me wondering how I died or if I was missing something. Each state of each boss fight is a delicate dance that needs to be learned in order to progress, and once you do progress I was left with this wave of satisfaction that is often rather rare in this medium. Observation Okay so the moment I realized this was the new game from the people who made one of my favourite games of 2017 (No Code's Stories Untold) I knew I was going to love it, and despite having a few issues with the games control scheme early on, I absolutely did love it. I don't really want to say too much about this one, just that I think you should go play it. It's not overly long, doesn't ask too much of the player and has a really fantastic atmosphere and a killer intro sequence. Also check out Stories Untold. Devil May Cry 5 I like Devil May Cry 5 just fine. My only complaint ( and this is deeply personal) is that there's so much choice in terms of weapons and fight-styles that I often found myself bamboozled by choice; ultimately deciding to just un-equip most anything aside from a gun and a sword from both Dante and Nero. With that said, I still had a really fun time with this one, I just wish there was a little less Devil May Cry in this, and a touch more DMC2 (I would watch a Netflix series based on this universe).

As sad as it sounds, I'm still very much in the headspace that if I'm going to watch something, I want it on my big TV, with the blinds down and the lights off. That really limits when I can do films; either super early (I wake at like 4 every day I'm not working), or after Mila is asleep and Danielle has gone to work at 10pm (by which point I'm shattered).

I had a baby. I don't have the time to watch anything apart from re-runs of Mr Tumble over and over and over again. Help.

What we do in the Shadows Couple of friends from work are absolutely mad about this film, so I thought I'd give it a go. And yeah, I laughed a lot. Probably wouldn't watch it again, but the 90 minutes or so I spent with it I enjoyed it enough. I can finally join in on their inside jokes!

Girlfriend Reviews Sort of fallen in love with these guys over the last few months. Don't be put off by the name, she's absolutely hilarious and I think they're producing some of the best video game content on youtube right now.

Got my first win on Monday. Ish. I got carried by two dudes who are likely half my age, don't have to work for a living and definitely don't have a kid who's trying to constantly put things in her mouth whilst trying to climb up everything.....you know. I'm slowly getting better. I'll never be a demon on this game, but I can feel myself becoming more and more comfortable with what this game is. For the love of god though, they need to work on their loot. It's so............just urgh.

So I ended up making the switch to the PS4 version, partially because I've got friends on that system, but mainly because the skill ceiling on the PC is just way above my own, and I was routinely getting demolished by headshot wizards I've got no chance against. Within my first 5 games on console I'd finished 2nd twice and 3rd once; so yeah....guess I'm a console guy from now on?

Yeah I'm playing on PC and so far I'm loving what I've seen. I wasn't sure about the forced squad play at first but the game seems to be built with the knowledge that not everyone is going to want to go on mic, and I find that super helpful. I'm also finding it's got that fantastic Titanfall 2 feel. I don't play many FPS games online, but I did play a fuck-tonne of that.

I decided I wanted to play something with my partner and um, well A Way Out seems to be very reluctant to go on sale so I grabbed this.. Now I just need her to stop playing on the PSVR.

Nothing much. I had a week off recently in which I spent the vast majority of my free time playing through Vanilla Destiny 2 and its first bit of DLC. However (and I'm not sure if its the game or me that's changed), I'm sort of okay not returning to it for a while. I'll likely play through Warmind (?) and Forsaken at some point in the coming months, but I think I've tired myself out for now. Away from that I've been trying to get back into Battle Royale with Blackout mode and PUBG. PUBG is like a drug that I just can't kick. I see its flaws, I moan, I come back anyway. Whats wrong with me?

Daughter has taken our 'entertainment room' because apparently she needs her own room, smells fishy to me but whatever. The PC was in our bedroom for the last few months but I managed to get it moved by arguing that my gaming time is how i best unwind, and I enjoy that most on my PC, but also didn't want to spend my evenings when Baby goes to bed in the bedroom away from my partner. It worked. It's not ideal, but as of right now....it's alright.

So I've been playing some Blackout mode after having fallen out of love with PUBG (after a combined 350+ hours across two platforms), and whilst I can see why it's being heralded as something really really good; it aint for me. It's well presented, looks great and has that COD polish that PUBG doesn't, and likely never will have, but man I don't need that COD time-to-kill in a Battle Royale game, nah uh. It's like the worst part of PUBG that many hated; the fact you spend time looking for gear only to be gunned down, multiplied by a thousand percent. Before you know what's happened the killscreen is up and you're viewing some dude who unloaded an entire clip on you in less time than it takes to take a breath. If you're into COD, and you want to try your hand at BR, there's so much to enjoy here, but as someone who ideally would like a nice middle ground between the hyper-realism of PUBG and the arcade-fun of Fortnite, Blackout mode misses the mark. And that's a real shame because I've got very little time for PUBG anymore.

I didn't give Into The Breach a fair shake in 2018 but I've taken a look since the turn of the year and yeah, I think its got me. It's basically taken over from Rocket League as 'the game I play when I've got twenty minutes to kill'; and it's absolutely perfect at that.

I thought otherwise. Its taken a while to kick into (ahem) gear...........................................(it's a GearVR joke) but its starting to get a foothold. 2018 was a pretty decent year for PSVR all told.

Grabbed one a few weeks ago for my partner and she absolutely loves it. She's spent the majority of her free-time playing though Astrobot which she's decided to try and platinum (testament to how great that game is). I've also grabbed Moss and plan on giving that a look when I've gotten through Destiny 2. Honestly, as an easy entry point into VR, it's kind of great. It's not perfect though. I'm not sure whats going on with Move controllers. They're insanely expensive and I'm assuming thats because they're not producing them anymore? Just re-packaging the ones they've got laying around after the Move flopped. It's a real shame too as I'm kinda desperate to play SuperhotVR and Space Pirate Trainer; both which require Move controllers. Thanks Sony.

It's a tiny mobile game about a relationship. The highs, lows and what happens after. It's cute and for one reason or another really stuck with me. Looks great too.

This is probably a really bad question but I'm going to ask it anyway. What does a retired D1 player need to know about D2? I'm a few hours into the game now and what I see I like, however (as tends to happen with these games), I feel like I need a quick course in how to play the game 'correctly'. Any tips for a guy who just doesn't have the time to find out how to play the game naturally.

2018 was a weird one for me. I actually played more 2018 games than I thought I would, and there was some really good ones. However unlike previous years nothing really stole my attention. There was no Destiny, Rocket League, Overwatch or PUBG. Quality was high, but maybe its more to do with my own personal life, but for one reason or another I never fell in love with a game. As such: I'll present a top 5 games rather than an overall GOTY. Red Dead II Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Florence Pokemon Lets Go Marvels Spider-man Again. I had a great time with all of these games, I'm just not sure any deserve the moniker of 'Game of the Year'

The Founder. I don't have much to say about this except that it really nailed what it was trying to do. Great performances by all, fantastic score and an interesting plot. Also left me with a massive craving for a Big Tasty with Bacon.

Still playing far too much Battlegrounds. XBOX and PC combined I'm pushing 300 hours of game time. I've certainly cooled from the highs of October though, often taking a week or so between sessions. Game has its issues, the new map sucks, the cheating thing just won't go away and as much fun as solo is, sometimes its too tense for its own good. Also playing boatloads of Rocket League on the Switch. Its not the best looking version of the game, but If you're like me and value not hogging the tv, having it on a handheld is invaluable.
