  1. The point is that Obama sold the whole project as being "defeceit neutral" and was telling everyone that it wouldn't add anything to the debt. That was why he had to tout the "around $900 billion" figure. Clearly this was misleading.
  2. Keep in mind too that we as the core gamers are a vocal minority. I have many friends who are gamers but aren't so core as to comment on internet forums and it just doesn't bother them so much. They either buy the DLC or they don't but they don't seem to care as much about day 1 DLC and whether or not they're being ripped off. At least, that's the impression I get from my less hardcore friends.
  3. Well, this should come as a shock to absolutely nobody. http://campaign2012....r-10-yrs/425831 I like to show this whenever people mention a trillion dollars. http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/index.html

Oh and there's nothing wrong with pinball. Though if you see the documentary "Special When Lit" you might not want to admit you're a fan ...

You know diarrhea is hereditary. It runs in the jeans.

  5. Part of the reason why every person has to be greeted at a lot of retail stores is because research shows people are less likely to shoplift if they've been directly greeted.
  6. Well, when I don't want to spend a lot of money on a movie or other entertainment and the family is bored a lot of times we just go walk around target and browse. I do like that about the mega stores. It's good exercise for the child too when the weather outside is bad.
  7. KOA:R might be held up because of the "excludes games released in the last 30 days" but it came out 35 days ago so I dunno.
  8. Yeah, sometimes it's just the principle of the thing. I hate being nickled and dimed for add-ons and such. I know marketing works because people can be manipulated but that doesn't make it good. In a way DLC is almost like the fiasco at walmart involving bulk stacks in the middle of the aisles. They took the clutter out of the aisles because customers hated the clutter but they lost a ton of sales because customers buy stuff off of the bulk stacks. Gamers complain about DLC all the time but they still buy it. Publishers and Developers don't care that DLC annoys and irritates gamers because they still buy it. It's one of those things about humanity that makes me nuts and now whenever i see someone buy something off of the stacks in the middle of the aisle I want to punch them.
  9. @TN, so to get day 1 DLC they don't bother testing it?
  10. tips for remaining employed: don't start a game of Civ before work.

  11. I know in Austin they just outlawed plastic and paper bags and you have to bring reusable bags from home. That's a tad on the crazy side. Also, Walmart pretty much killed the people carrying your groceries to your car for you. They might still do it at some grocery stores if you ask but I have not had my groceries carried to my car in quite some time. It's strange too because as a kid I remember them doing it for you all the time. Do they have motorized carts for fat disabled people in the UK?
  12. Apparently the reason why you can't find baskets at the front of most stores these days is because research shows people buy more stuff when they have to push a cart. Additionally there's far more thought put into a store layout than you'd think. Essentials like milk are usually at the very back of the store so you have to walk past all the other non-essential items to get to it.
  13. I think perks can be okay when they learn from a few things. Perks need to be carefully balanced and they need to be tailored to how you want to play rather than a few perks that are borederline necessary. Stopping power in COD4 was a must equip always and you never didn't use it so it made the second perk slow more or less pointless. BF3 does a good job with "specializations" where you can pick between ammo or sprinting or whatever depending on how you plan to play. The drawback to this is the paper rock scissors nature of the gameplay. I'm okay with perks and killstreak rewards and such so long as they're balanced well. I think part of the problem with Halo Reach was that the armor abilities were totally imbalanced.
  14. Only thing I'd disagree with is this: I mean, Capcom was in the habit of wanting you to spend $60 for more colors and a few extra characters every year.... This was the 5th release of Street Fighter 2.
  15. This is the kind of story that makes my head asplode: http://www.foxnews.c...s-voter-id-law/ The fact that anyone can argue that photo id is discriminatory when they are readily available to any legitimate citizen is just crazy. Maybe if there was some high cost or if it were even a little hard to get an ID they'd have a point but getting an ID is no harder than getting out and voting or even registering to vote. This is such a stupid and obviously political decision. Shame on this Tom Perez. also: I guess every single person who's ever had to get a drivers license has had to endure "undue hardship" and that might be true considering the lines at the dmv.....
  16. I think it's mostly that it's irritating for people like me. Is it enough to make me not buy the retail game? Usually no. Is it enough to make me not buy the DLC? Yes. Am I still annoyed at all the attempts to nickle and dime me? Yes. It's a lot like getting your oil changed and every time hearing that your transmission fluid is bad even if you just changed it. It's really annoying, you don't have to buy it but you get tired of telling them "No you're not getting my money".
  17. Picked this up off the Steam sale today.

Wow. I'm not a huge fan of AR, but that makes me really want to see what they can do with it. I'm very impressed

Super cool. I've been waiting for someone to do that right on a handheld. Their fireworks game can sorta attempt it but it also makes a kind of torn, psychedelic version of the background video.

  19. Yeah, the word "complete" may not be a good one for a retail game these days. Complete: "With all parts included; with nothing missing; full." I doubt you could say that for anything released by EA these days. I'm not saying you're not getting your money's worth with a $60 retail game. By all means games these days are 10x what they were back two generations ago but arguing that your game is "complete" at $60 is hardly true when you're putting out tons of additional content.
  20. I mean, you're saying customers might not pay $60 for a game on a DLC console for whatever reason. Who's to say gamers wouldn't buy a game console if it meant games only cost $50, or even $40? I'm just saying that the $60 price point isn't fixed.
  21. I don't disagree with this reasoning at all. XBLA and DLC prices can be crazy and totally disjointed with their retail offerings. As far as price points go, EA is already trying to shake that up with the DLC waves incoming and online passes etc. Who's to say a DLC only console would stick with the $60 price point?
  22. You don't see the iPad and iPod as proof that all digital can work?
