  1. Yeah, I remember when Half Life Opposing force came out and was $30 and I was upset at the price but it was so worth it. I wish we still did expansion packs rather than DLC. I guess we still do now with some games (AC:B and AC:R I'm looking at you).
  2. Ok, I won't put actual games in then, just franchises. Sounds good to me. I'll give it tomorrow for people to put their nominations in then I'll throw up the bracket and post the link. I'm thinking 2-3 days per round so everyone can get a vote in.
  3. I don't think this is necessarily true. It could easily be worthwhile content, but not enough to make you pick back up a huge RPG just to do a new side quest chain when there are other, brand-new games you're interested in playing. But that's exactly my point. If it were more than a lousy sidequest chain you'd probably bother to go back and pick up the game.
  4. Team Charmander FTW! Even though the rock and water gyms being 1 & 2 sucked hard.
  5. Well, honestly I was going to randomize it but if you guys want to see certain match ups then maybe we could do it that way. I don't see much point to trying to be scientific. This is mostly for fun. GameFAQs used to do these all the time and it's just fun. Better than a straight up vote for best game.
  6. Strange, I was able to say no thanks and it took me to the main site where I could log in. http://public.bracke...s.com/booth.php Edit: I also would add that I can only find the FF poll so I guess the Mario and Zelda polls were on the old site. I'm planning on putting up OOT and Super Mario World unless I hear strong opposition from you guys. Other games going on the list probably. Metal Gear Solid Half Life Halo COD4 Modern Warfare Megaman II Uncharted 2 Red Dead Redemption Star Wars KOTOR Chrono Trigger GTA III
  7. Just Finished DLC Quest. I get the feeling this is one of those parody games that becomes less funny over time as it becomes more true.
  8. Yes, it will be stupid and pointless but I like the idea of head to head matchups rather than just a vote. Post your nominations now. Don't bother posting FF or Zelda as I'll just take the most popular ones from their respective threads. I'm only going to vote for one game in a series so post your favorite of the major series and that's how we will decide what gets in for each series.
  9. So I think we can use bracketeers.com to set up an online bracket to vote over what the best game ever is. I think it would be fun. I'd like to get nominations from you guys and then I'll set up the bracket. Hopefully through this site we can avoid the mess of voting we used to have in these threads. Anyone interested? The one catch to bracketeers.com is that we can't make it private. I think we can keep random people from voting on it by naming it something nobody would ever search for like "pressxordie".
  10. Exploit: To use for one’s own advantage. I think they're using consumer's excitement over a launch title to wring a few extra $$ that might not have been spent if they were to wait a few weeks. It's an impulse buy in a way.
  11. I don't know that I believe the line that most DLC is content that would not have made it into the game otherwise. He also states that pushing it earlier means that it sells more and I can't argue with him on that but isn't that furthering the point that DLC is just exploitative of people? If the content was truly worthwhile wouldn't that mean that people would seek it out? Isn't the fact that DLC is forgotten if it's long after the release speak to how little value it actually has other than capitalizing on overexcited launch adopters?
  12. I already own a lot of these games so probably wont be checking in on this sale.
  13. I hate CAG flippers who clean out deals to flip them to gamestop for small profit ruining great deals for the rest of us.

I flipped Tales of Vesperia and SW:TFU Ultimate Sith Edition. Both were still in the shrinkwrap. Bought ToV for $15, like a year and a half later it was selling for like $75, bought SWTFUUSE for $20 and like a year later it was selling for $140.

That's also different because those values went way up after you bought them. You didn't buy them solely to sell them.

      Yeah, it was unplanned flipping.

  14. Check your local Toys R Us. Apparently the Saints Row 3 Limited edition, Gears of War 3 Limitied Edition and AC:B Limited edition are all $10. PS3 only for AC:B and SR3.
  15. Yeah, it's a little like toll roads. Only the people who use them fund them. I'm okay with that.
  16. Yeah, I don't know if the elephant jokes are any good online but if you tell them in person really quickly without stopping for people to try to understand it can be a lot of fun and you get people really confused because they're not sure if they're supposed to laugh or not.
  17. Yeah, I don't buy the argument of beer tastes good either. Didn't people drink beer solely because it was cheap?
  18. It is extremely common though. It's kind of difficult thing though. If you want to manufacture a light fixture you have to be sure it's not going to kill someone or burn their house down. In order to do that they test it. You can have the testing done by any one of a number of NRTLs but it's a governmental standards thing to make sure people can't sell you a light that could be dangerous. I'd rather have a range of private options to do the testing rather than be forced to go through what would probably be an expensive and slow governmental process. Same tired argument about privatization.
  19. Yeah, so I'm an engineer who has to design buildings and if I want to build a building it has to be up to the adopted codes of the local authority having jurisdiction. In most cases that is the International Building Code, International Fire Code, National Electrical Code etc. Those codes are written by private bodies and are copywrited and if I want to read those codes I have to pay for them. If I want to get a copy of the law it's free but it usually says "City adopts the National Electrical Code". Same thing goes for products that have to be made to certain Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTL) standards. This would include private companies like Underwriter's Labratory and ETL. You see their stamps on your consumer electronics all the time. They develop standards to test things and most laws adopt their standards so it's a bit of mixing of private works and public laws. I bet the people who started the early NRTLs made tons of money. Also, NFPA is technically a non-profit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Fire_Protection_Association
  20. Well, lets be honest here, there was never any doubt that it's just a project to wring more money out of gamers. Marketing's only job is to lie about that. Also, the other moral of the story is don't buy new games and don't pay $60. Buy them used from gamefly for $10 and get the online pass included. I've decided that if they're going to make a concerted effort to wring more money out of me I might as well make a concerted effort to give them as little money as possible. It makes me happy anyway. Fight the power!
  21. DLC is a niche product because everything I've ever read shows it only get's sold to ~25% of customers who bought the game.
  22. ^yes, this is why I like jack and coke.
  23. Maybe it's more than just this but Hunger games looks disturbing. A bunch of kids forced to kill each other? Not sure I want to see it.

Well, the book is pretty weird in that sense. 4th grade reading level but incredibly violent. The movie's going to be significantly toned down considering it got a PG-13. <_<

Wait? I'm fighting excel? Shouldn't be a problem. I don't even need a weapon. I will use my cunning intellect to defeat him and claim complete credit for my joke.
