  1. I've found that a vast majority of the time, people's issues with fighting games is that they're not interested in the investment to get good, more so if they're already playing things that require reflexes and coordination (like shooters and action games). They just want to start and be Daigo Umehara (or any other professional level player there is). Honestly, the biggest hurdle appears to be figuring out how to do special moves. Which I can't grasp at all when it's all thumb rolling motions unless you're playing a charge character. I'm sure there are plenty of cases where there's some kind of inhibitor though.
  2. You mean too good for this sinful Earth!
  3. PBS is responsible for the first boners of many a young lad.
  4. Only games I'm anticipating (within reason) right now is Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros. I'm not terribly enamored with Bayonetta, so I could take it or leave it.
  5. My zone out game is Burnout Paradise or the PS3/360 Incredible Hulk game, occasionally Prototype. Just going around smashing the shit out of things is one of the few forms of catharsis I got.
  6. Finally beat Shantae: Risky's Revenge while I was on vacation and Vegas. Miles ahead of the first game, but it seemed like some of the upgrades barely did anything (looking at you, Super Silky Hair Creme). Got around to finishing Infinite Undiscovery. Gameplay was alright, but characterization heavily reeked of anime character archetypes and all the associated tropes. Also finished up Resident Evil: Revelations today. Really enjoyed it, though I was not a fan of the Dodge mechanic since I played it after RE6, where I could evade whenever I damn well pleased and not just when I was being attacked.
  7. It's true that there was a lot of awesome stuff in the 90's, but I'm not that nostalgic for them. Except for the fact that Spongebob Squarepants didn't exist back then. I'm nostalgic for THOSE days.
  8. Ethan knows a good cleaner is all.
  9. I actually saw one of those chumps the other day. Confederate flag and Nascar bumper stickers and everything.
  10. Alpha Protocol was one of the other games I was going to mention, but I couldn't think of a way to articulate my thoughts beyond 'Does some things Mass Effect does, but better, but also gets ragged on because of some bugs and texture pop-ins (boo hoo!)'.
  11. I loved Binary Domain so much that I bought it THREE times. Although buying the Japanese version was a complete accident.
  12. I don't regret my purchase of Splatterhouse one bit. Listening to Jim Cummings just mess around as the Terror Mask was great. It's a shame that Namco pretty much sabotaged its development though. One games that I always think of as being underrated (or at least rather unfairly lamblasted) is the 2009 Bionic Commando. I get that every other game with a grapplin' n' swingin' mechanic (which is to say, Spider-Man games) was all about a big open world to fuck around in and when it didn't provide that, people were a bunch of whiny ass babies nonplussed. That said, the act of actually swinging around? Fun as hell.
  13. I'm on board with Ethan, but also with Vecha. If I have to use a metric to gauge an experience, a simple 1-5 scale with 3 being average/standard/inoffensive works best for me. But at the same time, I agree that too much stock is put into the number/judgment. Sure, there's a finite amount of time, but if one is so curious about an experience, only experiencing it will give them a genuine answer.
  14. I thought he spent most of the video repeating the same thing in different ways: 1) Too much waiting! This is a fair point. You really should be able to turn off the chest opening animations and there ought to be more to enemies than waiting for that moment where they lower their guard so you can hit them. 2) Stop telling me what to dooooooo! Why he singled out Fi is obvious for anyone who played Skyward Sword, but Navi? The only time she would remind you where to go or what to do is if you hit the prompt when it came up, just like any other time you really interacted with her. Overall, it felt like Arin was just saying 'I am impatient and I hate stories and dialogue and cutscenes and everything that isn't gameplay'.
  15. We'd need the rights to the movies to go back to Marvel/Disney for that to really happen, I think.
  16. NSMBU was pretty much the only one of the four games offered that I had any particular interest in.
  17. So I was in Vegas for a week or so and decided to get my Doppo Orochi on.
  18. I gotta say, E3 this year actually left me feeling pretty excited.

I do agree that knowing a lot of stuff beforehand left me feeling like E3 wouldn't be a big deal this year, but actually seeing everything just kinda made me smile.

In that 'yeah, this is gonna be okay' kind of way.

Another reason I didnt enjoy it as much has to do with my overall disappointment over games getting delayed or just not coming out till a year or 2 from now. I want new stuff now, so every trailer I see seems like a slap to the face for buying a console on release date. I know thats a typical problem with being an early adopter, but the delays really messed up the whole "next gen" schedule.

The big thing for Nintendo is that they had fun with their conference. The robot chicken thing with the jokes about stuff like Mother 3 was pretty funny. I just enjoyed the lighter nature of their conference in general.

  19. I personally thought co-op made Dead Space 3 more enjoyable on the whole. I'm hoping Unity doesn't force it and lets you actually do things separately from your partner(s) when you do play in co-op.
  20. I guess it's summertime now. Bleugh, I'm not ready for the excessive humidity.

But seems like Guts is enjoying it. He's also off the damn boat.

Guts is enjoying his vacation in Maui. Being a protagonist is hard work.

  21. I wasn't a big fan of Tharja either. A little too much generic pseudo-goth teenager shenanigans. My personal favorite character is definitely Gregor. His supports with everyone are amazing.
  22. It doesn't faze me a bit either, though I will admit I wasn't expecting the 'This is sexist and offensive to me!' crowd to get their panties in a bunch over a Zelda spinoff.
  23. There was always Veran, Twinrova and the Twilight Princess Great Fairy (you can't go much further than Godiva Hair).
  24. Also dropping the Gold requirement for Netflix/Hulu. I know my mom'll appreciate that one since my older brother gave her his Slim 360 and she's an avid Netflix user.
