  1. Well, it's that time again. The beast has gotten a little long in the tooth, sporting a downright medieval 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo and only 2 gigs of RAM. A new PC build for p4warrior. Luckily, I've already got some spare parts lying around the house, and I'm going to reuse my new-ish graphics card, so I think I can get in at around $200 USD. End result - CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition @ 3.4 GHz ($160) Mobo: Gigabyte ATX Motherboard (Included w/CPU) Memory: 8 Gig DDR3 PC3-10666 @ 1333 MHz (Free from friend who works @ RAM manufacturer) Video Card: ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB (Carried over from old build) Storage: 500GB HDD @ 10,000 RPM + 1 TB External (Carried over) Monitor: 26" Samsung T260HD LCD Monitor @ 1920x1200 Native Resolution (already have) OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit ($60 through student discount) Surface Type: Rich Mahogany Desk (Handcrafted with my own braun and mansweat) Reclining Apparatus: Lawn chair (Found on sidewalk in Pomona) I am going to upgrade the video card eventually, but on my current budget I'd rather just upgrade from my Core 2 Duo, RAM, and OS situation and worry about that later. The 4870 is still pretty great, especially because I got it on clearance for $70.
  2. He said it was the most underrated, meaning that he likes the console. He did complain about fading third party support for much of the Gamecube's life though.
  3. I would download games on consoles if it were like Steam and allowed me to download unlimited copies of my games to any console I logged into my account on. If it were like Nintendo's current (retarded) system of being tied to one console, it would be a no-go for P4warrior.
  4. It would be interesting if one of the three main players went with a cart or flash-based memory system. I wouldn't mind using DS-sized games rather than scratchable discs.

Maybe this is what they had in mind when they said no future products would be single player oriented.

  5. I believe the PS3 (at least, not sure about the 360) runs 512 shared between its video and system memory.
  6. See, I actually kind of like this, because it means I can run everything on highest detail settings at 1920x1080 with 16xQ CSAA and 16x AF. I loves me some antialiasing and filtering. True, but then again textures and models have been looking like crap for the last few years. Playing my games at 1900x1200 just means I have a really clear picture of a lot of low-res assets. Going to seriously disagree with you here, Dean. Nintendo is always able to find its niche, and the fact that they sell hardware at profit means that as long as they are able to sell a modest number of consoles, they will be able to keep chugging along. That said, it's hard to say what will happen next-gen without knowing what their plan will be. Let's wait til after E3 to see what happens. Assuming they expand their presence in the online space and improve on other areas of weakness, I think they can be pretty competitive. I agree that Android and Apple are competitors, regardless of what Nintendo says. But, iPhone-like hardware or not, the NGP will not be anymore successful than the PSP should Sony follow the same pricing strategy. Other than taking huge losses per unit (something Sony may actually do), I don't see the thing hitting the US at under $399. If that's the case, they would be no better off than Nintendo facing off against the smartphone competition.
  7. It seems like Rockstar is more of the financial / technical game engine support rather than supplying the game design or mechanics. But I can't really find a good clarification on it online anywhere.
  8. It's for this reason that I think the game won't meet people's expectations. Every headline or news article I've read on the game mentions Rockstar, rarely talking about Team Bondi. People expecting GTA: Detective are going to be disappointed.
  9. I don't know where FDS heard that, but remember, this is primarily being developed by Team Bondi, not Rockstar, so we can't expect many elements from GTAIV or RDR to translate into this title.
  10. I put some of my favorite quotes from the game below, assembled from my memory and a few websites. Man, looking back this game was hilarious.

They're definitely going on the "rage posts = MORE CLICKS AND AD REVENUE!!" mode now.

Oh yes it can descend more... they just have to dig.

  12. I gotta second the quad-core.recommendation. Most games coming out will be optimized for more than two cores, and I think the trend will continue. I just built my wife a PC recently and went with a quad; couldn't be happier with it.
  13. Bumping for more replies. Also, Nexus, I know you said 4/20 was probably the deadline, but I went ahead and added Portal 2 to my list since I figure we need more time for more entries anyway.
  14. Given the rumoured specs put it slightly above par on a console from 2005 I'd struggle to call it a "beast". Recent articles have said it is "significantly more powerful" though. Previously, yeah, you're right. Now we have reason to estimate more. Anyone ever upgrade from a Radeon X1000 to an HD4000 series graphics card? If the R700 GPU rumor pans out, that's the kind of leap from the 360 to Project Cafe that we'd be looking at (not to mention CPU and memory differences.)
  15. The Ducks are out; Angels get swept over the weekend. I just can't catch a break it seems.
  16. Depending on the configuration of the CPU, it's entirely possible that the system is significantly more powerful than either current-gen HD console. The gpu is far more advanced than the R500 in the 360, assuming anything about the rumors turns out to be true of course. --- Looks like the console just got officially confirmed by Nintendo, to come out in 2012 and playable at E3 this year. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109522-Nintendo-Officially-Confirms-New-Console-for-2012
  17. My wife and I played Left 4 Dead just about every night for 3 hours for 6 months. Melee is probably a close second.
  18. I just beat the singleplayer. Probably as close as we can hope to get to the perfect game.
