  1. Napoleon Dynamite had a very limited window where it was hilarious. I can't really watch it anymore though. Definitely not a timeless classic.
  2. Armageddon is coming out soon and I'm pretty excited about it. I thought Guerilla was actually a pretty fun game and it looks like by making this one a little more linear it will be a better game. Since day 1 Red Faction has been working toward a goal of destructive environments and it looks like they're getting closer. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/20/red-faction-armageddon-preview/ Did anyone else play Guerrilla? It seemed like an underrated game.
  3. I tend to gravitate toward single player but I do enjoy Halo and COD multiplayer. Coop games are fun but I rarely play coop when it's not split screen.
  4. That and the fact that the ads were of a fist punching through a dude's head. I think it created some kind of controversy but it wasn't a particularly effective ad campaign.
  5. Just post the last terrible movie you saw or didn't much enjoy. I just finished "The Other Guys". The whole movie was very unfunny. I had low expectations to begin with but it still was just a snoozeathon.
  6. Some games get fantastic reviews but sell practically nothing. Discuss them here. Mirror's Edge was apparently a commercial flop. Everyone I know loved it but apparently it didn't do well at all. Was there any reason why? The other two games I can think of off-hand were Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil. I never played either of those though because I don't remember hearing anything about them when they were released. Those might just have died for lack of promotion?
  7. Yeah, Mirror's Edge was a game that would probably have worked in 3rd person too but I was really surprised how well it worked in 1st person. It would probably have been less exciting in 3rd person.
  8. Third person is generally good if it's less focused on shooting. If the game is all about the shooting then FPS is best. Red Dead Redemption would have been terrible in first person but COD isn't as much fun in 3rd person.
  9. I'm trying to finish Metro 2033. It's going slowly. Also I'm working my way through Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass on my way to work these days.
  10. Yeah, I remember trying to play Battlefield 2 on PC. It was awful if you didn't have a team of friends because as a lone wolf you couldn't do a whole lot. I don't like being dependent upon teammates because too often I am playing by myself and random people are crap 90% of the time.
  11. I don't quit in games either. I've come from behind after 2 teammates have dropped out in Halo Reach and still won. I usually just gauge success on my personal K/D ratio so that even if the whole team is going down in flames I can still feel good about my performance and then I'm not really tempted to quit.
  12. The problem with enforcing penalties with ragequitters seems to always be about balance. Halo Reach tried it with their timeout penalty. If you quit 3 matches you had to sit out for 30 min. They later dropped it down to like 10 min but it seems like it never did much to abate the tide of quitters. Of course the forums were also on fire with all the people moaning about how they had been wrongfully punished because their internet dropped out or something similar. Personally I'm inclined to think that the system works pretty well (only penalizes the guilty) and developers should ignore the vocal minorities. I'm very interested to see how the MVC3 system works out. Also, Ragequitting is probably the worst with RTS. you spend an hour building up your forces and as soon as you start destroying stuff the enemy quits. All RTS games should default over to an AI when the opponent ragequits so you can at least finish wiping out their base.
  13. Right now I play a ton of action games including first and third person shooters. I play racing sims and action racing. I play WRPGs like Mass Effect but not so much Fallout. I'm more about story than exploration. I also play MLB The Show but mostly in the Road to the Show mode that plays a little like an RPG where you create a character and work your way into the majors. I will also pick up pretty much any game that gets really good reviews to see what the fuss is about. I've gotten almost completely worn out on Guitar Hero/Rock Band because I didn't want to practice to play fake guitar. I also got tired of JRPGs because it seems like the stories aren't very good anymore. Platformers also don't hold my interest that much usually just because I don't care about the story much either. I'd like to have some reason to get to the end rather than just stopping Dr. Eggman.
  14. That is true, Nintendo is terrible about that. I guess there's always used games for them.
  15. It seems like every new release is too expensive these days but I'm beginning to think that unless it's some outrageous price ($600 PS3) then it really doesn't hurt sales that much. Really it seems as though if a company priced an object where there aren't people complaining then the price is too low. I didn't think the Kinect would move at $150 but it sure is apparently (although I still see a ton on shelves everywhere). The price is gonna come down but for now they're gonna sell a ton of 3DSes. The $50 would bug me but they will come down in price shortly after release I bet too so that's not really gonna be a big deal. So no early adopting for me but probably will jump on board eventually.
  16. when you're talking PSU's you're talking transformers. Transformers are more efficient when they're closer to full load so if you buy a way over sized PSU it's not going to be as efficient. If you want a good idea what size PSU to get here is a good calculator. http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
  17. I have a feeling that the R4 solution isn't gonna work on this one.
  18. well, there are some people who liked XIII and you might enjoy Versus but to to believe that for some reason Versus is going to be a vastly superior product seems unusual to me.
  19. $40-50 for the games. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/19/retailers-3ds-games-priced-at-40-50-in-us/
  20. Isn't Final Fantasy quickly turning into Sonic the Hedgehog? I mean, the fans keep getting super excited about the new game and it's always a huge letdown but the next one, oh the next one will be a return to glory. Versus XIII is probably not going to be any better than Vanilla XIII
  21. Translation: Post a new quote now!
  22. Sounds like a reference from the screwtape letters. A book by CS Lewis.
  23. Total Recall was my first impulse. Should have gone with that.
