  1. I like roundabouts, but sometimes it can feel like you're entering a death trap with the people who don't yield before entering. "I don't see anyone, so lets keep on going and don't slow down! OH YEAH!"
  2. If you feel yourself part of the majority then yes. majority =/= everyone. Don't take it so personally. I think the same could be said for others as well, or maybe we're just too defensive of intangibles. I only quoted this bit because I like the summary, but going off of this, I totally agree with you WTF. I was thinking last night if I should mention my few PC gamer friends as an example of the "enthusiasts" dilemma. It's anecdotal, but of the four, I would only say two of them are the type of gamers we represent ourselves online. One plays old PC games on disc, while the other kinda seems to go with the flow with whatever is available online. That last one I would still consider a gamer, but much like all the people with Xbox 360s and PS3s in my apartment complex, they're not going to have much knowledge of the industry and any relevant news. E3 presented a good example of telling who is an enthusiast and who is not.
  3. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/catwoman-gameplay-batman-arkham/717026 From this alone I can already tell Arkham City is going to be miles above Arkham Asylum, and that game was really great to begin with.
  4. I swear, my Internet service better be up in the morning. Supposedly, "some people" came over to look at our Internet. This is according to that roommate of mine...

And if that sounds weird to you, it's how he put it. I at least have my mobile hotspot, but it's not exactly desirable long term solution.

  5. To one's own perceived reality, that which may be lacking in truth and knowledge. Or, you know, we really are just a bunch of bickering ninnies with no grasp of human society because we are far too deluded in our cyber space fantasies.
  6. So now gamers, in general, should be represented by this "majority?" I do believe I still stand by my "shy away from stereotypes" statement if we're all going to be seen as such. It doesn't help that the public sees us that way, so lets not begin that perception here as well.
  7. As faiblesse said, the sales figures pretty much back it up as been the majority, and therefore prime, example of a console gamer. They are a massive marketing force. And it's not just PC that they affect but console games too.The rise of FPS titles, games being "dumbed down", too much is DLC, etc. So because this "majority" is dumb, the assumption from PC gamers, and you did say this in your previous comment, is therefore valid? That I as a console gamer, though I do play on the PC, should fall under your statement that I am less knowledgeable compared to the PC gamer. This seems like we're putting on the other shoe to this PC elitist argument. "Yeah, PC gamers aren't elitist... but those console gamers sure are a stupid bunch, ha!" Really, lets shy away from stereotypes if we're going to agree that stereotypes are a farce.
  8. Even I know that, but I don't see the reason to (honestly) use kb/m in most scenarios, unless you have a true fetish for it. I don't really think all those CoD "game bros" are a prime example of a console gamer. Like I said, they're the bros that, most likely, got into gaming because of that "bitchin' Halo Combat shooting game."
  9. Comcast crapped out, but thankfully my smartphone is also a mobile hotspot. :D

  10. I'm going to with the Super Nintendo controller. It's a classic, and while the "Classic Controller" does a decent job imitating it, the fact it needs a Wiimote to function gives me little reason to consider it the "greatest" controller. The 360 controller is good too, but I don't think it's that amazing. One of the worst D-Pads I've ever felt, and the battery pack... *shivers* EDIT: I don't get the DualShock distaste too. The analog sticks work fine in my opinion. Though, there is such thing as "PlayStation hand" if you constantly play.
  11. Pfft, the first Cars was still a pretty good movie. It was my least liked Pixar movie, but at least it shows it's a Pixar film. It wasn't some NASCAR love story, but about the legacy of Route 66 and the role automobiles served decades ago. Rather than being a mode of transportation, they were a vital tool of exploration for the average joe. The humbling of the hot shot McQueen, the reality of being a "legend," and knowing what truly matters. That was all in the first Cars. In Cars 2... nothing! Well, I guess there's a "be yourself" message, but it's not like we haven't seen that before in other movies, television shows, books, and some adult in school telling us in a lecture.
  12. Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with Yantelope here, Dean. One could assume those statements to be valid, especially the technical aspect," but what about all the arcade cabinet enthusiasts, collectors, and Generation X gamers who have been around? Really, would you honestly say a PC gamer knows everything about gaming? I mean, that's what it sounded like what you said. I always thought any gamer could take it upon themselves to learn about the industry and all the various devices and achievements of gaming in the last few decades.
  13. I did, and so I'm very sure it is his, but just how he acts like "Oh shi... What do I say?!" is ridiculous. Again, it was a yes or no question, but somehow he's (apparently) frightened.
  14. Can you blame him when Alienware laptops are marketed as "ultimate gaming machines?" I think we've all seen the commercial with the guy spazzing out in the coffee shop, but for good measure... I don't think any analogy could work if you're going to compare it to consoles, both home and handheld. Of course you're not going to get Uncharted to work on a Wii because that is a PS3 game. Yeah there are both PC towers and PC laptops, but they're both "PC." Unless someone tells them not to start PC gaming on a laptop, or services like Steam say something like, "Oh by the way, you really shouldn't play on a laptop," then people are always going to make that "mistake."
  15. He, literally, cleaned up his act in time; thus he was not evicted. I'll be moving out in about a month since my contract will expire, and he never made good on his word on moving out last month.
  16. I went onto Penny Arcade tonight because sometimes they'll put Friday's comic up early. They did, but "Gabe's" blog post for Thursday was interesting. Personally, I think this is a good example of the dividing line in PC gaming. When things don't work at first, it's a large deterrent to the enjoyment you could be experiencing. Onto that are comments like "that's what you get..." and "build it yourself" which (I feel) adds pressure to gain more knowledge than you intended to ever expect from simply playing games. Rather than receiving eustress from a pleasant gaming experience, you're receiving distress from fiddling around with a machine.
  17. Alright, I got back online solely to tell someone this... just read! So I'm cleaning up in the kitchen and I happen to notice there's a coat hanger under the table. That roommate of mine is on the couch, so I ask him, "Is this your coat hanger?" He gives me his patented idiot face and sits silent for a bit. I'm thinking to myself, "This is a simple yes or no question. What does he think I'll do if he answers "incorrectly?" So I push a bit further: "A 'Yes' or 'No' will do." He says, "Well, I don't know and I don't want to sound like a dick." Not answering me is being a dick! I mean, it's a freaking coat hanger! Either it is your coat hanger, or it is not. There's nothing more to think about. I'm assuming it is his, but he was "scared" to answer me. Recently he has been telling us he has paranoia and phobias and "inner demons." Yeah, because there's definitely true fear in peeing inside the toilet.
  18. Got myself a new contract at a much better place for the same price! Not to mention there's a pool, gym, club house, and... the people might turn out to be snobs. :s

  19. I do believe there is elitism. However, before anyone casts stones, I also believe elitism isn't merely a phenomenon in PC gaming. Truthfully, the "elitism" we talk about most likely isn't real elitism, but instead it's frustration and jealousy under the guise of elitism. If something doesn't turn out desirable, rather than addressing the issue, the individual will instead go into a tangent of how their platform of choice is "superior" and so forth. So yes, I do believe there are PC elitists. Also, there are "console elitists." Simply put, they merely express their "elitism" differently, but that's only because of how different such problems persist between PC and console. I like to think that the PC elitist is more notable because they have to be more outspoken about an issue. Console elitists come off as rambling jerks; jerks that find company with others and proceed to bemoan, and etc. So yeah, that's my thoughts on "elitism."
  20. I feel like calling soda/pop "coke" is more of a southern thing since that's where it began. Still, I've had a few fast food joints say "coke." I never really hear "pop" either, just soda and "soda pop."
  21. Gotta find a new place to live. Might talk to a few guys I know who are NOT psychopaths with hygiene issues.

  22. If anything that makes me more interested in the dialogue because from the demo it seemed like it was borderline ridiculous and thus entertaining in its own right. I plan to pick it up once I get some more skrilla. I played that demo to death and now that it's at $20 it's doable. There's a scene in about the middle of the game where... Well, amazingly someone put it on YouTube. (No spoilers) It's like I can understand what was meant, but it comes out ridiculous.
  23. Vanquish, because really, it doesn't last that long. Still, it's a blast to play! The story isn't really a mess, it just takes a backseat to everything else going on. Because of that, you'll kinda forget what the heck you're even doing besides shooting up robots. Forget the dialogue, either it's incoherent because of all the gravel gargling, or that the lines themselves don't make sense. Again, it's a blast and I think everyone should give it a go. You could rent it for a day or two and get a satisfying experience.
