  1. Alright, here is a list of everyone who is participating (in the order they posted): TheMightyEthan deanb Rudolph Hitler (nee Saturnine Tenshi) CrowKnow Thursday Next danielpholt Baconrath Mr. GOH! Mal Eleven We got 10 this year, which is down a little but still quite respectable! I will update this post later tonight with links to everyone's Steam profiles. <- Done. Make sure you get everyone added as a friend on Steam if you don't have them already.
  2. This thread is not for general discussion of the exchange. Each participant who has signed up for SS2016 should post one time in this thread letting their Santa know what kind of games they like, whether they prefer Steam or another service or digital gift, that sort of thing. Do not post again if you think of more; edit your original post. The more detail you give, the more likely you are to receive something you want. That said, your own style is fine--you could just do a short list of a few things you've been eyeing or else you could be as detailed as you want. This is not a replacement for Steam/Origin wishlists--use those as well. This thread is to give a little more background about your wants and why you may want them. My Wishlist post will be right here in the top post to give you an idea of what we're looking for. Including a link to your Steam account and wishlist would be a good idea as well. Here is a template to get you started: Steam ID/Wishlist/Country (in case of regional restrictions) General criteria What are your favorite genres? What are your favorite games? Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? Will you take games not on your wishlist? Any other information you think relevant? --- Here's mine: Steam ID: TheMightyEthan, USA Origin ID: TheMightyEthan (apparently Origin profiles are only viewable through the Origin client), also USA General criteria: Just something that's either on my list or along those lines, or along the lines of other games I like. I do prefer singleplayer over multiplayer as a pretty consistent rule. I do not like JRPGs (in general, though recently I've started enjoying the Persona games) or sports games. What are your favorite genres? Probably action/adventure games, but I play pretty much everything. What are your favorite games? In no particular order: Shadow of the Colossus, Batman: Arkham games, Dishonored, Mass Effect Series, Dragon Age Series, Halo, Gravity Rush, Red Dead Redemption, Bethesda RPGs, Civilization series, Zelda series, Mirror's Edge, Assassin's Creed Are you looking for any non-Steam gifts? A PSN or Origin gift would also be great. I have a PS3, PS4, and Vita, but if you go that route PS4 would be top pick. I'll add a PSN wishlist later, but for the moment checking out my Darkadia (link below) would give a good idea of what I play and what I already have. Will you take games not on your wishlist? Yeah, if you really think I'll like it then go ahead, just should probably check my Darkadia account to make sure I haven't already played it on another platform. Any other information you think relevant? My wishlist is basically in order, but don't worry about it too much for games within a couple slots of each other.
  3. Grind and challenge aren't the same thing. Challenge is a thing requiring skill to do. Grind is having to do the same thing over and over. My ideal level of challenge is being /just barely/ able to do a thing on my first or second try, so it doesn't feel too easy but I also don't have to keep retrying over and over.
  4. "Steam, I don't want you to show me Singleplayer games. No Multiplayer either."
  5. On that same site as Dean's boardgame motivations survey is one for videogames, here are my results: https://goo.gl/gPz2Dd I'm Action-Oriented, Analytical, Gregarious, and Deeply Immersed. At first I was confused why it said I'm gregarious, because I don't like multiplayer, and then I realized it's because I told it I like working with other players (which I do), I just don't like playing against other players. I think that's why Destiny kept me hooked for so long, there was so much cooperative multiplayer stuff available.
  6. Here's mine: https://goo.gl/wBPdGD, I'm Strategic, Grounded, Gregarious Apparently I like just about everything but immersion (which I don't have a problem with, it's just not super important to me).
  7. Alright, signups are closed (though if I'm being honest I'll probably let in anyone who signs up before I send out targets).
  8. Tom Scott had an interesting video about it that he ended with depressing musings about whether we'll actually use the 100 years that this thing will last for to clean up the site, or if we'll just ignore it now and then in 100 years we'll be scrambling to apply another bandaid to it.
  9. I have a meter that I can plug into an outlet to see how much power something draws, and prior to the upgrade my computer would max out at like 500W. I'm not sure what it maxes at now, but I know each new component draws less power than its previous counterpart, so I'm making what I believe is a fairly safe assumption that the whole thing draws less power than it used to.
  10. Yeah, my PSU is 680W or something, which was more power than I needed when I got it, and my new PC actually uses less power after the upgrades than it did before them...
  11. *throws a phoenix down* Thought I'd bring this thread back since I just upgraded my PC. Apparently my last post was actually 2 builds ago (and I bought a new graphics card the same day I posted it, but never mentioned it for some reason). Anyway, here is my new PC: Mobo: MSI Z170-A Pro CPU: Intel Core i7 6700k Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo RAM: 2x8GB G.SKILL NT Series DDR4 2400 GPU: ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Founders Edition Sadly I no longer have a DVD drive because the one I'd been using since 2005 is IDE and my new mobo doesn't have any IDE slots.
  12. Incoming pedantry: I think "we" is okay for something like the Brexit vote. The "we" you're referring to are the people of the UK, and a majority of voters did pick Brexit, so I think it's fair to say the people (or at least the voters) of the UK picked Brexit, even if a (very large) minority opposed it. But yeah, generally speaking I definitely have the thought "don't lump me in with your psychopathy" from time to time. "We did this thing" my ass. *I* didn't do shit, *I* fought it the whole way, *you* did it.
  13. I didn't say we're not dystopian too.
  14. Last reminder: Secret Santa signups are in the Event Planning board. Deadline is tomorrow.

  15. Whatever, I constantly find myself exclaiming with joy when new laws are introduced. "They amended KSA 60-216(b)! Hell fuckin yeah!"
  16. Huh, I've heard the opposite: that the villain is completely boring.
  17. Hitman Upgrade Pack. I haven't even played the Intro Pack yet but goddammit this is $12.50 and I only have so much willpower.
  18. Yes, I finished the level and had 2 detections, reloaded a save from before that happened (it was very near the end of the level) and redid it without killing that clockwork and when I finished that time I had 0 detections. *Edit - @GOH: I went all the way up on top of the buildings and then dropped down into some foliage very near the corpse drop-off. I'm playing as Emily.
  19. I've made it through Mission 4 without being seen so far. It doesn't seem harder than Dishonored 1, with the exception of a bug(?) I encountered where I was trying to take out a clockwork soldier with a grenade and it kept "seeing me" even though it wasn't, it was just seeing the grenade.
  20. I've never been able to get in to previous Hitman games (though part of that could be them becoming dated because i never tried until years later) so I didn't want to pony up for the whole season blind. Though if I like it I'll probably kick myself for not getting the season pass (it's $12.something).
  21. Hitman Intro Pack Steam key is $3.74 on Gamestop's site.
  22. We bought a weed-eater leaf-blower combo because it was cheaper than buying the same weed-eater by itself for some reason...
  23. Titanfall 2. It was $30 at Best Buy and I had a Best Buy gift card with $21 on it that I've had for more than a year because I never shop at Best Buy, so I figured what the hell.
  24. As it does for me. Got it at 4k with everything maxed and it's very pretty (granted I also have dynamic resolution on because occasionally but infrequently the framerate would drop into the 40's).
