Yeah, this was a great year for games. And a fair number of the ones you beat that I didn't I have on my list to get to. -

And of course it wouldn't be me without the graphs! Apparently I kept my gaming pretty well spread out, there's a couple spikes but mostly it's right around 3/month. Obviously Playstation got all the love this year. I still have it divided between PS4 and PS5, but all of it was on my PS5, I just listed is as PS4 if it was backwards compatible instead of a native version. Next year I'm going to have to add Xbox in so I might stop making a distinction between current and last gen and just go by platform. PS4 and PS5 were pretty much tied for number of games, in fact PS5 had a slight advantage, but PS4 runs away with it in total playtime. That's because I played Mass Effect, Kingdoms of Amalur, and Surviving Mars all by backwards compatibility. Those three alone account for more than half of my PS4 playtime. It confused me that PC was so much higher than the rest, but then I looked and it's because I only beat two games on PC this year, Halo and Forza, and both were right around 27 hours. Apparently I leaned towards short games on PS5, and I think PSVR games in general are quite short, so that explains why that's so low. Next year I'm gonna put some green on the board! -

Yeah, that's kind of what I'd heard, and was trying to relay (perhaps poorly), that you will get more out of LaD if you've played the others, but it's the kind of stuff where if you haven't then you aren't going to notice that you're missing it. -
I really need to give House of Ashes a try.
-
lol, it's funny you say it's long, when I did the NG+ recently I was shocked by how short it was.

Looks like there's conflicting information out there then, because I've definitely seen the general info is "you don't need the others to follow this one, and won't feel like you've missed anything." I'll let you know after I play it. The rest of it's fair enough though, if you want to play them anyway then no sense in skipping them, especially since as I understand it LaD does have spoilers for the others. -

From what I understand, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is separate enough that if you haven't played the others you won't feel like you're missing out (though if you have you'll pick up on stuff you would have missed). -
Okay, this should be the final update for quite a while: (Not the main attraction, but the sound bar is back because I ultimately decided that while the TV speakers do sound better in a lot of ways they don't have the same oomph. It was a battle scene in The Expanse that made me realize it.)

I'm waiting to do my list, but it's looking increasing less likely I'll add anything else. -

No I'm pretty sure it does the 90's movie thing of "kid does something magical to divorcing parents and they realize they actually do belong together". Which is problematic for entirely different reasons. -
And another one, Hollow Knight. Like Subnautica, this game actually did grab me at first, but also like Subnautica, I don't feel like I have a good idea of what I even need to do, let alone how to go about doing it. I found a boss, but I'm not strong enough for it, and the game has not introduced any mechanics for getting stronger. I don't even have a dodge ffs.

lol, that's what happens to me with almost every game I'm excited for but don't end up getting at launch. I'm like "well I've already waited this long..." -

I always get MHR confused with MHW, so I'm always "but there already is a PC port..." -
I forgot about this thread. I've been trying to play games I already have in-between Gamefly discs (they're quick but there's still usually 3-4 days of turnaround between when I send one back and receive the next one), so I've been trying out games I already own and just never played, so I've been shelving a few recently. Death's Door - It pains me to put this here, because I loved this game, but the fourth(?) major boss was just too fucking hard. I can't do it, and I can't even get far enough along in the fight to feel like I could do it with more practice. It just murders me. I already have the second-highest level of damage upgrade, and there are more health upgrades I could get, but only a couple, and that would definitely not be enough to see me through. I eventually just had to throw in the towel. Sundered: Eldritch Edition - This is a roguelite that just didn't hook me. It's of that mysterious, slow-burn, you-don't-even-really-know-what's-going-on type stories, and those never grab me very well, and the traversal and combat just wasn't doing it for me either, so I set it aside. Subnautica - This one I can definitely see why people like it, it's just not for me. The beginning really reminded me of No Man's Sky actually, but with way less guidance about what I need or where to find it. After like an in-game week of still not feeling like I'd made any tangible progress, I gave up. I want to like it, but I don't have the mental energy to work that hard for what is supposed to be my leisure activity.

Oh right, duh. I'm going to try ITT with my wife, but I don't have a lot of confidence she'll want to stick with it. -

Well that's a big list, I only got 48 and was happy I almost did one per week. -

Don't you have an Xbox? It Takes Two is on Game Pass. As far as the rest, they're on my Gamefly queue, so I'll get to them eventually. In fact Scarlet Nexus just shipped today. -

When I looked at this thread I thought I'd played most of the game I wanted to this year, and wasn't going to really have much of a list, but boy was I wrong. The story for all of them is basically the same, I wanted to play it but other things took priority. "Regret" is a strong word, but these are the ones I wish I would have gotten around to. Avengers* - Mixed reviews, GaaS, and the fact that I just didn't have much fun with the demo all contributed to me skipping this, but I still feel it calling to me. Biomutant - Also mixed reviews, but it's just so colorful and pretty, and I love the warrior rodent creatures, I want to try it out. Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes - I held off because the previous DPA games have been misses, but I've heard good things about this one. The Forgotten City* - Looks like just a cool little time-loop puzzle game, started out as a Skyrim mod. It Takes Two* - This one is required coop, and I wasn't sure enough that my wife would like it to justify spending the money on it, but I've heard it's fantastic and would like to give it a shot. Outriders* - Another one with mixed reviews, but I was interested in it from the announcement, and I'd still like to give it a shot. Psychonauts 2* - I really liked the first one, but was never able to finish it because of the jankiness (even for the time), so even though it's on PC Game Pass I just never made the time for it. Plus I always hesitate to player newer stuff on PC cause I know the console version is better than my PC can do. Sable* - Another smaller indie game I've had my eye on, but just hasn't been able to break through. SMTV - I completely love Persona, which makes me want to try this out, but I've heard it's way harder, and lacks the social link stuff, so it never quite makes it to the top of my pile. Scarlet Nexus - This game just looks fun, but again, mixed reviews, and JRPGs are hit or miss with me, so I've been hesitating. Solar Ash - It's beautiful, and from what I can tell from trailers the gameplay is appealing to me, but Hyper Light Drifter was so damn hard, and that combined with the price tag ($40!?) has kept me away. Tales of Arise - Same story as Scarlet Nexus, basically, except without the mixed reviews, but adding in a checkered history between me and Tales games. Yakuza: Like a Dragon* - I've tried a couple of the other Yakuza games and the brawling wasn't really my thing, but I've heard great things about this one and I'm hoping the switch to turn-based combat will make me like it more.\ *Nearly half of these are on Game Pass, so once my Xbox gets here I may give more of them a go. @danielpholt I 100% get that it's not worth it to buy an entire console for just a couple of games, but goddamn you're missing out on Deathloop and Ratchet. I'm glad you'll at least be able to play the former later this year. -
I never posted again after I got my new TV: Sound bar is gone because the new TV has speakers that are better (not as much bass, but much less muddy overall), and it can do 3D audio that works surprisingly well. I still keep it turned off on the PlayStation input because that does real 3D audio, whereas the TV's is just stimulated, but for stuff that doesn't already do it it's way better than straight stereo.

I feel like I read something about it having to do with the way the game logic works, and it breaking at higher frame rates, but I can't seem to find it.
