Games You Beat in 2022: PXoD's Bogus Journey
TheMightyEthan replied to danielpholt's topic in General Gaming Chat
Chorus This game was pretty cool. The best way I can think to describe it is it's like Crimson Skies x Ghostrunner. It's a semi-open-world space flight sim. The combat is great, in addition to regular guns and stuff you have all these psionic powers you can use. But most importantly, it's the first space flight sim I've ever played where you can "drift": cut all thrust and keep moving on your previous vector while you aim whichever way you want. You know, like real space combat would work. It's badass The missions are hit or miss, though the actual story missions are almost universally good (other than a couple of boss fights). I had a lot more fun once I stopped doing side stuff and just mainlined the campaign, which makes me think they should have just made it linear to start. The game is full of little missteps like that, but the core is really good, and the campaign is great, so I recommend it anyway. Grade: B with a --- Psychonauts 2 This game was also really good. Towards the beginning there was some issue with the editing that I assume is caused by its difficult development, like characters referencing things that never happened, or Raz magically knowing things that were never revealed, that kind of stuff. It was really grating and almost made me quit, because it broke my immersion every time it happened, but luckily it never happened again after the first couple of missions. The game itself is really clever. It's a good platformer with creative levels, though I do feel like each part tended to overstay its welcome a little bit. Because of the way it's set up you can't do like Mario and move on to the next level when you get tired of the current one, so it can drag a bit. But there was never a part I would consider badly done, all of it was at least good, I just sometimes wished I could move on faster. While the issues hold it back from being truly great, it's still really good, and I recommend it to anyone who's interested in a 3D platformer. Grade: B+ -

The valkyries were the things that kept me from getting the platinum, but that was before I fully embraced playing games on baby-ass baby mode, so I'll probably get it when I re-play it before Ragnarok comes out. I would like the next place they go to be somewhere in mesoamerica, there's not enough of that in media. -
Yeah, I've heard the game performs dramatically better than it used to. It's actually decent on XB1X and PS4 Pro now, from what I hear.

Gaming Tropes There Should Be More Of

I'm pretty sure I've said this before in this thread, but Psychonauts 2 reminded me: every game that has a "if you quit now all progress since your last save will be lost" should also have a "it's been X amount of time since your last save". Psychonauts 2 does that and it's so reassuring to see my last save was 7 seconds ago. -
I just realized none of us said Super Smash Bros Melee. We should all be ashamed.

I 100% agree, Lost Legacy is my favorite Uncharted game by a wide margin. I didn't even think any of the games were good until Uncharted 4, and then I ended up really liking LL. -
They also announced they're working on a new IP alongside Destiny, so I doubt they're also going to be working on an existing Sony IP.
-
I always thought Galaxy was too easy, and Galaxy 2 even moreso, but Odyssey I think was just right.

Khajiit has power, if you have coin.

That's funny, that was the experience I had with Super Mario 64 in that collection. It was groundbreaking for the time, but doesn't hold up anymore imo. Sunshine, on the other hand, held up better than I expected (I loved it when it came out, but was worried it would have aged poorly).

The fact that you left off Wind Waker is an absolute travesty. The correct list: Exclusives: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Super Mario Sunshine Mario Kart Double Dash Animal Crossing Pikmin Third party: Resident Evil Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader Sonic Adventure 2 Battle I honestly can't think of any games that I loved on the GameCube that aren't regarded fondly, it would have been Wind Waker but time rectified that mistake, so I just gave myself an extra exclusive.

None at all, very few of the games I've been playing on Xbox are exclusive, so I could be playing them on PlayStation, but since I have both I'm playing them on Xbox because they're slightly better there/available as part of Gamepass. But most of PlayStation's exclusives are must-plays for me, so if I had to give one up it would be the Xbox, because I wouldn't lose access to as many of the games I care about that way.
-
I've been playing a lot of games on Gamepass, so that's most of it, but some of it is also that Xbox is more powerful so lots of games run better there. It hasn't even been a month and my PlayStation is already turning into an exclusives machine like my Switch.
-
Oh okay, I thought the PC version was also handled by Sony. Not that that wouldn't mean they couldn't gouge anyway.
-
Psychonauts 2 I'm only about an hour in, but so far I'm really enjoying it. Hopefully the rest of the game stays this good. Also, playing on XSX and I am so torn between 4k60 and 1440p120. 4k is so crisp, but 120 is so smooth. Also, looking at my gamercard I just realize that none of my last 6 games are Playstation (Scarlet Nexus technically is but that shouldn't be there, I just launched it because I was messing with TV settings and needed an SDR signal to test). That is quite the flip from the last... 8 years? Jesus.

lol, as a customer I'd obviously prefer it if they let us sell it back at retail price, but I can't really say it's unfair that they pay us the same amount they pay their other suppliers.
-
I think that's the same pricing scheme they had on PS5, IIRC.
-
We are able to sell it back, but only at the wholesale rate, which is about 1/3 of the price we have to pay for what we buy from the grid, hence the battery so we can save it up and use it ourselves instead. Even so, for about 9 months of the year we should produce more than we use and end up selling more back, but in June, July, and August the A/C will mean we use more than we produce and have to buy. I just found out today though that our city is considering switching to variable rate and charging more during the day and less at night, which would great for us since during the day the panels will cover our usage and then we can run on the battery through the evening and it'll be overnight and early morning when rates are low that we might need to buy.

Quantum Break This game did a lot of stuff right, but it just couldn't bring it all together. Overall I liked it, but it could have been so much more. The TV show cutscenes were an interesting idea that just didn't work, but I do respect that they tried. The combat was fine, the powers were cool when everything came together just right, but a lot of the encounters didn't seem like they were designed to really make good use of it. There were also a lot of threads left dangling, and not in a sequel-teasing kind of way (though there was that too), but more in a "we just kind of forgot about this" kind of way. Violations of the principal of Chekov's Gun. I'm assuming some of that is due to the branching paths and the way the different decisions interact, and maybe if I'd made different choices some of those things might have come back, but that's not what happened so it just felt weird. The story was compelling throughout, and the time manipulation stuff was awesome, but it had me going "but what about...?" about several things at the end. All in all, there's a lot of great stuff in here, but the whole is definitely less than the sum of its parts. Grade: B- -
Yeah, depending on how hard it is to fix it may be something they can get working again before launch anyway. It's not like it's this week.
-
Yeah, I'm guessing just disable online
-
Yeah, it allows someone to run whatever they want on your computer, completely taking it over if they wish.
