  1. lol, that's what happens to me with almost every game I'm excited for but don't end up getting at launch. I'm like "well I've already waited this long..."
  2. I always get MHR confused with MHW, so I'm always "but there already is a PC port..."
  3. I forgot about this thread. I've been trying to play games I already have in-between Gamefly discs (they're quick but there's still usually 3-4 days of turnaround between when I send one back and receive the next one), so I've been trying out games I already own and just never played, so I've been shelving a few recently. Death's Door - It pains me to put this here, because I loved this game, but the fourth(?) major boss was just too fucking hard. I can't do it, and I can't even get far enough along in the fight to feel like I could do it with more practice. It just murders me. I already have the second-highest level of damage upgrade, and there are more health upgrades I could get, but only a couple, and that would definitely not be enough to see me through. I eventually just had to throw in the towel. Sundered: Eldritch Edition - This is a roguelite that just didn't hook me. It's of that mysterious, slow-burn, you-don't-even-really-know-what's-going-on type stories, and those never grab me very well, and the traversal and combat just wasn't doing it for me either, so I set it aside. Subnautica - This one I can definitely see why people like it, it's just not for me. The beginning really reminded me of No Man's Sky actually, but with way less guidance about what I need or where to find it. After like an in-game week of still not feeling like I'd made any tangible progress, I gave up. I want to like it, but I don't have the mental energy to work that hard for what is supposed to be my leisure activity.
  4. Oh right, duh. I'm going to try ITT with my wife, but I don't have a lot of confidence she'll want to stick with it.
  5. Well that's a big list, I only got 48 and was happy I almost did one per week.
  6. Don't you have an Xbox? It Takes Two is on Game Pass. As far as the rest, they're on my Gamefly queue, so I'll get to them eventually. In fact Scarlet Nexus just shipped today.
  7. When I looked at this thread I thought I'd played most of the game I wanted to this year, and wasn't going to really have much of a list, but boy was I wrong. The story for all of them is basically the same, I wanted to play it but other things took priority. "Regret" is a strong word, but these are the ones I wish I would have gotten around to. Avengers* - Mixed reviews, GaaS, and the fact that I just didn't have much fun with the demo all contributed to me skipping this, but I still feel it calling to me. Biomutant - Also mixed reviews, but it's just so colorful and pretty, and I love the warrior rodent creatures, I want to try it out. Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes - I held off because the previous DPA games have been misses, but I've heard good things about this one. The Forgotten City* - Looks like just a cool little time-loop puzzle game, started out as a Skyrim mod. It Takes Two* - This one is required coop, and I wasn't sure enough that my wife would like it to justify spending the money on it, but I've heard it's fantastic and would like to give it a shot. Outriders* - Another one with mixed reviews, but I was interested in it from the announcement, and I'd still like to give it a shot. Psychonauts 2* - I really liked the first one, but was never able to finish it because of the jankiness (even for the time), so even though it's on PC Game Pass I just never made the time for it. Plus I always hesitate to player newer stuff on PC cause I know the console version is better than my PC can do. Sable* - Another smaller indie game I've had my eye on, but just hasn't been able to break through. SMTV - I completely love Persona, which makes me want to try this out, but I've heard it's way harder, and lacks the social link stuff, so it never quite makes it to the top of my pile. Scarlet Nexus - This game just looks fun, but again, mixed reviews, and JRPGs are hit or miss with me, so I've been hesitating. Solar Ash - It's beautiful, and from what I can tell from trailers the gameplay is appealing to me, but Hyper Light Drifter was so damn hard, and that combined with the price tag ($40!?) has kept me away. Tales of Arise - Same story as Scarlet Nexus, basically, except without the mixed reviews, but adding in a checkered history between me and Tales games. Yakuza: Like a Dragon* - I've tried a couple of the other Yakuza games and the brawling wasn't really my thing, but I've heard great things about this one and I'm hoping the switch to turn-based combat will make me like it more.\ *Nearly half of these are on Game Pass, so once my Xbox gets here I may give more of them a go. @danielpholt I 100% get that it's not worth it to buy an entire console for just a couple of games, but goddamn you're missing out on Deathloop and Ratchet. I'm glad you'll at least be able to play the former later this year.
  8. I never posted again after I got my new TV: Sound bar is gone because the new TV has speakers that are better (not as much bass, but much less muddy overall), and it can do 3D audio that works surprisingly well. I still keep it turned off on the PlayStation input because that does real 3D audio, whereas the TV's is just stimulated, but for stuff that doesn't already do it it's way better than straight stereo.
  9. I feel like I read something about it having to do with the way the game logic works, and it breaking at higher frame rates, but I can't seem to find it.
  10. Yeah, lots of games are 1800p-2160p30 in fidelity and ~1440p60 in quality, and reconstruction algorithms are getting so good now that 1440p is barely distinguishable from full 4k, so the extra frames are definitely worth it.
  11. Oh no I understand, I wasn't trying to criticize, I know that even a Series X can't come close to touching a good gaming PC, so I get why someone would go the PC route, I just meant the cost isn't worth it to me personally.
  12. Lol, and that is why I decided to go with a Series X instead of upgrading my PC. I assume you already have a good graphics card?
  13. The only correct livery for any of the trucks is Jurassic Park, thank you very much.
  14. Game of the Year: Returnal I acted like there was competition, but really there wasn't. This game was just so perfect; it was a joy to play, the story was intriguing, everything about it just came together exactly right. There's not much else to say. Housemarque knocked it out of the park. Runner-up: Deathloop I've always been a sucker for Arkane games, and this one is no different. They are the masters of the stealth immersive sim, and they put everything they've done before into this one. They even surpassed themselves in the characters and world, it's all just so full of personality. I wish it had revealed more about what was actually going on with the time loop, but there's definitely room for a sequel, so hopefully we'll find out. Honorable Mention: Halo Infinite If you'd told me earlier this year that Infinite would even have been in the running, I'd have been highly skeptical. 343 just had not shown they had the chops for Halo, 4 was a good story but bad gameplay, and 5 was the opposite. Then to top it off, they fucked the story so hard with 5 I didn't think there was any way to recover it, no matter how good the rest of the game was. Well, they proved me wrong. Sure there's some awkwardness around the story and fixing what they broke, but that was unavoidable, and they did a much better job than I ever would have thought possible. I also have some complaints about the level design and the open world, but the core of the combat loop, the beating heart that is Halo, is there, and it's perfect. It feels like Bungie. That's the hardest thing to get right, and it's also the most important, and they nailed it, and my hat is off to them.
  15. The Pathless This game is cool. I don't really know how to describe it. Thematically it's like a more cartoony, less dark Shadow of the Colossus, but gameplay wise it's completely different. You've travelled to an island where five gods reside, they've been cursed by an evil wizard(?), and you have to free them. Nearly all of your interactions involve shooting things with your bow (which auto-locks, no aiming required), including traversal, which requires shooting these floating things to make yourself go faster. It's hard to explain, but quite good, it accomplishes exactly what it's trying to do, and it's challenging without being frustrating. Grade: A
  16. Lost Ember This was definitely a game. It had a story, with a beginning, middle, and end, and you controlled the main character. In seriousness this game was just okay. The story was moderately interesting, but it was too slowly revealed, and the twist I saw coming almost at the beginning and then wrote it off because it would have been too obvious. It's pretty, and a cool concept (you play as a wolf spirit who can possess animals, no combat, just exploration), but really just overstayed its welcome in pretty much every way. It didn't help that for the last 1/3 of the game I kept getting stuck and not being able to find the way forward. So yeah, it wasn't bad, but I also don't exactly recommend it. Grade: C
  17. Yeah, I'd wait to upgrade your mobo till you can get next-gen ram too. Also:
  18. I wish I could find just a 2060 Super at reasonable prices, all I want is the ability to do Gsync over HDMI...
  19. Oh, well, that makes sense.
  20. Why does he care about Chapo's sons?
  21. Will do. My only concern is that modern OLEDs can't get the same full-scene brightness that LEDs can, but I think all the other benefits offset it. (Well, it also doesn't do 8k, but considering I can already barely tell the difference between 1440p and 4k I don't think that's an issue...) *Edit - Also next year LG is releasing a new line of OLEDs that have higher full-scene brightness, but I anticipate them being at the prestige pricing tier.
