  1. I like "Good sir, you are a dick." because it combines the snobbishness of "good sir" with the bluntness of just telling someone they're a dick. It's a nice contrast.
  2. I didn't find it to be accurate at detecting sword swings at all. It would get the direction right maybe 1/2 the time. That said, I didn't have problems where I had to recalibrate it either. I also found the bow aiming to be wonderful, though I wish it would have used the sensor bar at least for a reference.
  3. Just a joke about Dean's picture, for those concerned about spoilers.
  4. Auto-volume-leveling FTW! Doesn't help though when there are other sounds at the same time covering up the voices.
  5. I know. "I agree wholeheartedly" just flows so much better.
  6. Yeah, with games I want subs even if the dialog is already in English.
  7. One advantage to subs is that it's harder to tell if the acting is bad if you don't understand the language. I often do find the uber-high-pitched "cutesy" Japanese girl voices irritating though.
  8. "British EA employee single-handedly storms US embassy, witnesses say he appeared 'rather cross'."
  9. Japan and Taiwan had a water fight.
  10. Yeah, I wasn't trying to say they're doing anything underhanded, just that I don't anticipate it working out very well.
  11. AFAIK there's no technical reason why things can't be ported from Wii to PS360. The problem is that beyond graphics the Wii can't support things like larger levels, more complex AI, more enemies, etc etc that PS360 can, so even if you were to port the games they don't measure up to other third party games on those platforms. There's also the issue of the Wii's wacky controls making games not translate as well, although Move has alleviated that to some extent. *Edit* - But even with Move there's the issue that not all PS3 owners have it, so your audience there is limited.
  12. That sounds a lot like Microsoft. More Microsoft' date=' actually.[/quote'] MS likes to pay third party developers to be exclusive, sure, but the 360 is close enough in terms of power to the PS3 that there's not anything stopping a developer from releasing a game on both systems and there's no reason to think it will be any different with the 720/PS4. With Nintendo, OTOH, their console is so different from the others that you either have to spend a ridiculous amount of resources to dumb down games from the other consoles or you have to release your game only on Nintendo's hardware. MS encourages exclusives, but Nintendo's hardware almost forces them.
  13. Even putting aside the special problems with airplane windows, isn't adding oxygen to a fire, even at ground level, a bad thing?
  14. MS definitely sells at a loss (or does early in the cycle, I think they're making a profit on each 360 now). The expense of creating the games is definitely a concern, but engine advancements are lessening the impact of that as well. UE4, for example, has a lot of optimizations that streamline development and allow you to accomplish more with fewer people.
  15. Did that squirrel just jump directly onto the ground out a third-floor window?
  16. I doubt they'll look West, at least too strongly. Japanese companies can't seem to wrap their minds around the idea that anything outside of Japan matters at all. As for all these IPs: It's obvious Nintendo really is trying to win back the core with the WiiU, but I see one major problem with that: hardware. The WiiU might be attractive to the core for its first year, but then the 720 and PS4 are going to release and be ten times as powerful and it's going to steal Nintendo's thunder with the core. I'm glad that they're trying, but I don't think they're going about it in the best way.
  17. Amazon is going to have game Gold Box deals all day on Tuesday the 25th.
  18. Obama is a really good campaigner. Six months ago when everyone was talking about how all the polls showed Romney with a significant lead over him I had to keep reminding people that that was before Obama even started campaigning, and that once he did it would likely turn around fairly quickly. Seems I was right.

My one contribution to this conversation is going to be to say that I think adhering to standards is good simply because they're standards, even if a proprietary equivalent is, strictly speaking, superior. It's just good to have everything work and play nice together.
  20. This change in their position is better than no change in their position.

Yeah, apparently I know the exact opposite people as Fuchi. Everyone I know has an Android phone except my sister who has an iPhone.

Google Maps is great on Android. I haven't used my standalone GPS once since I got my Android phone.
  23. <Grammar Nazi Hat> Semicolon is distinct from either a period or a comma. The closest thing to a semicolon is really conjunctions, like "because", "but", etc. For example: "I like pancakes because they are delicious." "I like pancakes; they are delicious." Commas are used to separate clauses within a sentence, set off parenthetical statements, etc (or items in a list, as I used them there). Semicolons are usually used between distinct thoughts that are nevertheless related, like in my pancakes example. "I like pancakes" and "they are delicious" could both technically be complete sentences, but we link them with a semicolon because the thoughts are not as disconnected as a full-stop period would imply. People often use commas when really they should be using a semicolon, a la "I like pancakes, they are delicious." </Grammar Nazi Hat> All that said, if you want to use a comma in that sentence that's not something that bothers me. It's kind of like who/whom: you can use "who" when you should use "whom" and it doesn't sound too weird, but if you use "whom" when you should use "who" it sounds awful. Similarly, (ooh, look, another comma usage, this time to set off an adverb!) if you use a comma when you should use a semicolon it's not too awkward, but if you were to use a semicolon where you should just have a comma it's awkward as hell. For fun, I could just as well have written that sentence, "Similarly, if you use a comma when you should use a semicolon it's not too awkward; if you were to use a semicolon where you should just have a comma it's awkward as hell." It's not as elegant though because it doesn't mirror the previous sentence's structure. I could also have rewritten the previous sentence though...
  24. I wonder if they're using the rest of Tamriel that was already roughed in in Skyrim or if they're rebuilding it from scratch.
  25. Then/than really bugs me too. Also to/too/two (although "two" usually isn't much of a problem).
