I think it's usually once it goes gold and gets sent to the manufacturer/reviewers. Suddenly you have a lot more people with access to it, which increases the likelihood of someone ripping it and uploading it to TPB.

Gaming and Catering to Smaller Consumer Groups

I agree. And with Dishonored specifically (the game that set off this debate) there's no character customization at all beyond skill selection, so it's not as if they let you customize your character but then left out women or something. -
Fall Indie Royale Bundle. I've had Oil Rush on my wishlist for a while now.

eleven is saying that the version of the game that you actually send to the manufacturer to be printed onto discs and downloaded from whatever online store would be fine as is, but up until then you would keep it intentionally bugged out so that any leaks would be leaking a fucked up version. Therefore no problem with consumer protection laws because the sold versions wouldn't be fucked up to begin with, only the pre-release pirated versions. That wouldn't address the Halo 4 situation though, because my understanding was that they believe it was review copies that got out.

Actually that would be kinda cool, although it would be really irritating on a no-kill attempt. I guess it would encourage avoidance rather than neutralization.

Excessive, early and excessively early DLC
TheMightyEthan replied to peteer01's topic in General Gaming Chat
I've been thinking about it, and I've decided that current DLC practices make me significantly less likely to buy games I'm only moderately interested in at or near launch. As soon as DLC starts rolling out I start thinking "well, I might as well wait until all of it's out so I can have the entire experience" and so end up waiting to buy things that I otherwise might have bought earlier. -
Yeah, but it took a little while for those patches to get released.

Alright, brought this back. Let's leave that old argument where it is, shall we?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure if you throw people in the water it counts as a kill. Which I think makes sense.

I think the slutty female characters is more of a JRPG thing than a WRPG thing. In DA:O with few exceptions the female armor was no sluttier than the male armor, same with Fable, Mass Effect, Fallout, TES, etc. -

tl;dr: Hottie agrees with me. -
I know, but it sounded similar and I wanted to make fun of you.

Maybe MGS has a deal with Nintendo that they can't put their characters in a game that competes with SSMB? -
I'm sorry, but that is a TERRIBLE name for an enemy.

What an original concept. Some kind of pre-release, "demonstration" version of the game to get people more interested in it.
-
Yeah, in Arkham Asylum if you pirated it then your cape wouldn't work when you tried to glide, which made a certain mission impossible. I think it was fairly early in the game too.

Gah, rtard.

This always happens for me too. For the most part I just like girls better than guys, even putting aside sexuality, so when given a character creator I make girls more often than not (though in games with high replayability I usually end up doing at least one run as each sex). Then for the same reason I like the girl NPCs more than the guys, and because IRL I'm a straight male I find them more attractive so they're the ones I flirt with. So I end up playing lesbians a large amount of the time not because "HOT! LESBIANS!" but for much more low key reasons. -
Actually the fact that it can't be done casually is a big part of why I don't think many people would pirate it and still buy it at launch. If it were on a PC game, sure, but on 360 getting it to a state where you can play pirated games is already a fairly big commitment to piracy, so I'm betting most of those people just pirate all the games they get. If 360 piracy were as easy as PC piracy I'd agree with you, because then there'd be a whole bunch of people like me who ordinarily buy all their games but would pirate this just so they could have it NOW. Also, from what I've read the risk of getting banned from XBL for pirating games is actually really low as long as you keep your flashed firmware up to date.
-
If it does it was too subtle for me to pick up on.
-
Yeah, well, that's what happens when you ditch the lead writer and then completely change the basic premise of the series that you've been building for two games. *Edit* - And that's probably enough said on that topic. Don't want to restart the whole ME3 argument.
-
It ties in to a little side event in ME1 that I thought was cool. That's most of why I like it. But yeah, it's pretty weak overall.
-
I've been thinking about it (because of the Halo 4 leak) and I don't think I have a problem with pirating something when it leaks before launch PROVIDED you buy it at launch. I don't have a modded 360 or a dual-layer DVD burner so I couldn't play Halo 4 now even if I downloaded it, but assuming I could I don't think it would be morally problematic for me to download it now as long as I don't cancel my preorder for it. I've already ordered it, Microsoft is getting their money at the same time either way, so they wouldn't be hurt by me pirating the leaked version. Now, I realize that assuming people won't cancel their preorders is assuming an ideal world, and that in practice a large percentage of people who pirate the leaked version would not still buy the game at launch, I'm just thinking about the morality of the situation.

I'd pretty much agree with Hottie. Definitely get Lair of the Shadow Broker, and I would also recommend Arrival, though mostly for the plot setup for 3. In ME2 you can play after the end of the main story, so for Arrival I'd wait to decide until after you beat the game, and then if you want to see the story development buy it then. I think LotSB is also best played after the end of the main story. I think Kasumi and Zaeed are both worth getting, but they're definitely lower-priority than Arrival and LotSB. Same goes for Overlord and Firewalker. Firewalker is probably the weakest DLC overall, but the end of it is kinda interesting.
