  1. I agree. I really thought it could have done with more base-building, and maybe a higher unit cap. There controls weren't the limitation though, those were implemented well and could have supported a larger game. Now back to RAGE. If we're going to keep talking about Halo Wars we should probably split it to a new thread.
  2. I agree that Halo Wars worked, and even though I didn't enjoy it much I thought EndWar worked also. I'm not opposed to RTS on console if done right, I just meant that playing an RTS on PC with a controller would feel wrong.
  3. Well I haven't gotten it in the mail yet, but from what I remember you're correct. IIRC all the games before Double Agent used a slider bar in the lower right to indicate how visible you were at any given moment. A little indicator on the bar would slide between the light end and the dark end.
  4. I can't decide whether I'm going to preorder this or not. It's coming out right after Halo: Anniversary and AC:R, so I don't know that I'll have any time. I'll definitely pick it up shortly after launch though. I already bought a Wii Motion Plus just for this game.
  5. To jump on the "how much are games generally worth" topic, to me if I'm interested in it it's usually worth about $10-15. If I'm quite interested it bumps up to the $20 range. Games I'm excited about but not just absolutely dying for are about $40, and only games I'm 100% head-explodingly stoked for am I willing to pay $60. That's all for "full" games. When you start talking about smaller, XBLA/PSN-type games that all goes out the window. Like retail games though I think those are generally over-charged for.
  6. Good thing MW3's only gonna be 5 hours long then. Seriously though, I agree with you. If I spend more than about an hour demoing a game I'm almost certainly going to end up buying it.
  7. You say it feels designed with a mouse in mind, but to me mouse acceleration absolutely SCREAMS that it was designed with a controller in mind. Not that I *really* have a problem with that, I've played plenty of shooters on console, and play plenty of PC games with a controller, but playing an FPS on PC with a controller just seems wrong. The only thing more wrong would be an RTS.
  8. That's still 2 hours isn't it? But if those 2 hours suck then really it's more cost to the game, rather than value out of it. Maybe the game sucks from the beginning, but you keep playing for a couple hours hoping it gets better, or that it'll grow on you, before finally giving up. In that case you didn't get 2 hours of value for your $1, you paid a dollar and *also* wasted 2 hours on something bad. Also what Duke said.
  9. I agree with your assessment of Dead Space, but I don't think it applies to RE4. Dead Space had creepiness combined with the dread of entering certain areas, but RE4 was completely lacking in creepiness, at least to me. To me RE4 wasn't any creepier than fighting the Flood in Halo.
  10. The GCN remake of RE1 scared the bejeesus out of me.
  11. So apparently the reason for the lack of graphics options is that the game is constantly benchmarking and tweaking settings to get smooth play. Cool idea, but it should be optional.
  12. Yes yes, I am a consumer whore. I know. At least I bought it used.
  13. Yeah, it did at launch, but they later modified it so you only have to connect when you launch the game, not continuously.
  14. According to the Joystiq review it doesn't have dynamic lighting either, so scenes often look like "a badly Photoshopped DVD cover" with different objects being lit differently.
  15. Actually, that's not why I don't like it. Yeah, I was surprised and a little disappointed when they revealed the style of the game, but that was like a month before launch and I got over it by the time the game released. As for why I don't like the game, there's no one thing, it's everything about the play. It's just not fun. It's tedious. It's not about wreaking havoc, but about strategically arranging the cars to block the roads as efficiently as possible. It's to the point where it's a BAD THING when a car explodes and causes a chain reaction, because it decimates your road block. Instead of having one giant pile-up you end up with a million low-speed collisions. It manages to make causing the biggest wreck possible a slow-paced game. It makes me sad.
  16. While I don't obsess over finding the best deal, when something like this happens I often have the same initial reaction Rocky. Then I go "meh, I got to play it all [week/month/other timeframe], so whatevs"
  17. I'm firmly in the "DRM only punishes legitimate purchasers" camp. For the really pervasive DRM that is. I'm okay with requiring a CD-key, or registering online in order to play multiplayer, that kind of thing. But I've had DRM programs seriously fuck up my PC before *cough*StarForce*cough*. I don't think DRM ever stopped me from pirating a game, or even seriously hindered me, but it's sure pissed me off on games I've legitimately purchased on several occasions.
  18. Don't worry FLD, I don't blame you. If anything people like you will just keep the Burnout series alive, and eventually maybe they'll make another good one...
  19. Burnout Crash is an abomination. First I was pissed at Burnout Paradise for removing crash mode, as it was my favorite mode of the previous games. Then they finally make a game that's nothing but crash mode and it's not even fun. I remember the first time I ever played Burnout 1, I was playing crash mode and I said "They could make an entire game that was just this and I would fucking love it." Then they finally do make that game and somehow they ruin it. It makes me very sad. ;_; BURNOUT REVENGE FOREVER!
  20. What's wrong with a flash drive, or like... e-mail?
  21. I almost impulse-bought the Splinter Cell HD Trilogy, but the Walmart here didn't have it. Take that my impulses!
  22. Ico. PS3 version. Already beat it on PS2, but I'm counting it again anyway.
  23. I finally decided to install this.
