  1. VNC, it's old as hell and platform agnostic. Also RDP as well for a more MS based solution. Or, which I use for my phone and I think Ethan has used as well, there's Splashtop (and many other proprietary systems which Steam now joins). edit: @TCP: It's linux based, it'll run most (if not all) of the 183 Linux games currently on Steam. If you want to run the other 2157 you'll need a Windows based computer hooked up to whatever PC you've installed SteamOS on. Given we don't know what Distro it runs underneath (I'd assume and hope it's *buntu based) we don't know what else it'll run. Hopefully Valve decide to get a bit more technical in the coming days, cos for announcing a new OS/Distro they've actually said fuck all for what they need to say.
  2. Yeah. So you'll buy or build a SteamOS PC, plug that under your TV, stick in a 360 pad or DS4 then go and buy/build a Window PC to actually play the games on and set that up in the study/whatever. At which point you might was well just buy/build your Windows PC and plug that in and run Big Picture mode, or use one of the many other streaming solutions already in existence. And you don't have to faf with Linux at that point either.
  3. http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamOS/ SteamOS. Capable of playing your Windows and Mac games as long as you're actually playing these games on your Windows/Mac PC!
  4. Unaloq seems to be being another "grey" guys like Amon where you're like "hey don't quite agree with what you're doing, but your reasoning seems solid enough". Though given we're only three episodes in I'm doubthing he's gonna be the main antagonist, I doubt they'd make it that obvious that early on. He's also seeming way too grey. The business dude seems a bit "bad" but also somewhat stupid. Hey, maybe they're not gonna have a season long "baddie"? The interaction between Aangs offspring is the main highlight of the episode though. Looking forward to more exploration there.
  5. I've been rejigging my media library. Found some "old" songs I've not listened to a while.
  6. It's not so much I don't plan to have a gravestone, it's more that I plan to live to a ripe old age, which means 50million or so folks will have died and buried before me and I'm not sure even at the half way point of that there will be any room left for even my gravestone.
  7. Wouldn't be much of a surprise given they've been partners for donkeys, worked with Nvidia to bring drivers up to scratch for Linux, and also mentioned Nvidia Grid as a "good" Steambox.
  8. http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/ So this page is up. The Steam beta recently updated with "- added support for upcoming features" too.
  9. http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/ - So I guess this'll be a thing.

RIP PC GAMING. This is the Linux era!

...but Linux machines are PCs. Also unless they're announcing that they're including WINE for DirectX shit I don't think this will be a big deal.

  10. Given it lacked buffers, magnetic holders or anything else like that, the Xbox 360 wasn't really engineered to be stood up either. At least this time they've not put feet on the side of the console.
  11. Next to nothing. Struggling to just get into games. Got a full weekend to myself coming up though so might get into something then. Might do Awakenings, then I can remove DA:U from my HDD as it takes up a fair chunk of space.
  12. PRetty sure that was SimCitys reason for being online.

  14. Anything filmed with the intent to be displayed in a movie theater was made with the intention to be displayed in a movie theater. And given that Blu-Rays only came about around 7-8 years ago, which'd be around when digital was taking quite a grip anyway, I've a feeling that the eventual resting place of a film being on 16:9 1080p HDTV was rarely, unless the director was prophetic, kept in mind while making the film. Even in recent years Avatar is the only film I know of that was filmed with HDTV in mind, so anything in the first century of film is a big no-no. Yes because film is..well film and not a grid of pixels it has theoretically infinite resolution. It's a huge over-simplification though as it ignores quality of film stock, the storage in the intervening decades, the conversion process and the source used (it's not always the original film reel). Shitty fuzzy grainy footage is still shitty fuzzy grainy footage even when blown up to 1080p, 2k or 5K and beyond.
  15. Are you saying that random dramas and older films can't have amazing cinematography and design? The Fountain, Stalker, Koyaanisqatsi, and The Fall immediately spring to mind. No, just that in dramas being able to see the stubble on an actors chin isn't really much important considering it's a drama, and you're watching it for the drama, the acting, not the shiny visual effects. As for older films, the conversion can be hit and miss, and given they weren't made for HD and above in mind don't make much use of all that resolution. Also you maybe forget my field at uni was special effects, slightly warps what I watch some films for.
  16. Yeah, I tend to only get blu-rays if it's a film where the HDness would have much shiness and use. Say like Tron Legacy, Avatar, Superhero films etc. Random dramas, older films, etc, SD is fine.
  17. Calm/control. They stop doing what they're doing, go docile, and sod off back to wherever they came from. Yeah, hence "mimic".
  18. Given we're all of two episodes in, what is the Wiki basing this information on? Because nothing like that was mentioned in the show. He just waved about, made glowing golden ribbons (is it worth noting water glows blue in the show?) and then the spirits go all docile, and walk away n fade into nothingness. If it is an extension of water bending, then in Korra alone we've seen water bending mimic the effects of energy bending, and mimic the effects of an unknown form of bending allowing water benders to control spirits.
  19. £12 ain't bad for a single film on blu-ray so a whole series that's cracking. This is on my "to watch" list, but my "to play/watch/listen/read" list hasn't ever really shrank in recent months.
  20. I want the Appa doll. Yeah Korra is pretty bitchy. I will say I'm a fan of them seemingly bringing a bunch of the old silly randomness back which is nice. Spiritbending is kinda as you'd think it'd be something at least touched upon in prior series. Seems a bit of a deus ex machina. Couldn't they come up with a different solution instead of pulling a new form of bending out their arse each problem that comes up? I'm up for giving it the benefit of the doubt. It is only two episodes so far. And yeah, gotta balance of the fact it seems that series 1 was meant to be standalone unlike TLA. It's gotta set up the whole spirit stuff too I guess. Oh and as for the end (just before portal opened):
  21. So some trailers from the recent cinema visit. PG/U mind. Seems somewhat aimed at the US. This looks like it could be okay. Certainly one of the weirder superhero origin stories (Ryan Reynolds, in a film where he has super powers. Can't go wrong!)
  22. Justin and the Knights of Valour. There's only one Knight of Valour, so it wasn't off to a good start. It was just kind of dull, not like "oh my god this is terrible", but it was pretty straight-to-DVD kind of story. Kinda flopped at the start with it being the kd opting against becoming a lawyer to become a knight. Lawyers aren't much of a concept kids grasp, so you're really gonna have to aim that part at the adults and they never really bothers. There was a few running gags they probably thought were hilarious but the sucked the first time and continued to suck each and every time . Quite a few plot threads that could have been dropped, and one with regards to the bad guy and his motivations that shouldn't have been dropped. "You don't know all the story.".....then that's it he doesn't really expand, when it's clear from the earlier plot elements that it wasn't so cut and dry on him becoming "bad". On the plus side, it avoided many cliches. On the downside it really should have stuck to the cliches. There's bits and bobs of the VA cast from Shrek in this, and on top of that Justin changes style a bit through the film to look a bit like a ginger version of Hiccup (From Train your Dragon) so I imagine the idea was to draw on some of the appeal there. They just kinda fucked it up. And going off the ending they're actually aiming to make it a series of films. Oh and this had been in "last OK movies" till I realised that apart from filling in some time, it didn't really have many redeeming qualities. Didn't even keep the kids overly amused and one of them and my step-mum fell asleep during it.
  23. http://imgur.com/a/YDqnI Definitely in the realm of weird.
