That used to be how it was done, but companies tended to ignore security holes, or even occasionally get people done for computer hacking under whatever local computer misuse laws there are. So these days exploits are posted publicly to force a companies hand. I'm to understand there's a bit of a gentleman's agreement/honor among thieves aspect in certain companies getting a 5 day head start or such. Something tells me Ubisoft aren't quite in the good graces of folks as Google might be.

Yeah, their attitude does kind of suck. And it's unearned too. Sony in launching the PS3 had the best selling console of all time. Microsoft's best ever selling console barely beats out Sony's worst selling console. They need to come out and really lay out thier vision with this, if they have one at all.

Yeah our school system with dealing abusive/disruptive children is pretty fucked. There's some schools that are great, and then there's some schools that are basically last on everyones choice for school placement. Basically they get filtered through the system till all the shitty kids end up at the really shitty school, then OFSTED closes the shitty school or turns it into an Academy and the system starts all over again. I've been in a mix. Started in a local crappy school, moved on to a middling school (my mum did a u-turn when heading for a meeting with headmaster of the really crappy school, don't put windows in your school.), a pretty cracking school (mainly due to being in a well to do area), then on to a middling school again (only secondary in the area). None of these are city schools either, which I'd guess could be much worse. I guess it depends from what school she was coming from, but I imagine if you're from the shitty school you'd know.

Original Xbox got booted pretty fast, but there was some external factors to that that don't (currently) exist for the 360. As for the 1 and 2, the Xbox was never a "games machine", just had more of a leaning towards games than other media at the start. It was always a 'Microsoft entertainment PC in your living room'. Video games come under the "entertainment" umbrella.
