    Alcohol

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21541887 Probably an article of interest for some of you hipsters enjoying US beer.
  2. The game built up quite a few things it never really went anywhere with.
  3. How'd you grow turnips? (I have got some flowers growing for a competition, may have stolen a few dozen too, but no turnips, just oranges as far as good goes)
  4. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/extra-punctuation/10277-Stealth-Games-Dont-Have-to-Be-About-Killing-People A neat post from Yahtzee about making stealth games where the aim isn't to be killing folks. Leads a fair bit to the disappointment of Watch_Dogs having guns I guess, and some recent worries about how the new Thief game may play out. It does say something when the "don't kill people" is a gold trophy achievement in stealth games. The expectation is to kill people.
  5. So I've been playing a bit of Animal Crossing: Wild World. It's kind of okay, but quite a few quirks that could do with polishing. Firstly it uses real world time, and I guess for most folks (especially the children it's aimed at) it's fine and dnad,y but I tend to do stuff during the day and game at night, and that's past Nintendos bed-time, meaning I can only play "properly" for a little bit. The other thing is it's not very explanatory on what to do and how to make money. So far most of my cash is from finding out I'm meant to work for Tom Nook for a bit (though it seems that's a one off at the start) and then just picking all the oranges and shells in the game world and selling them, and keeping whatever bells drop from the trees. It's not the best money spinner. There's a fishing rod I've gotten, but I can't figure out how you're meant to make it work. And one issue that can't really be fixed, but I'm suddenly realising the only portable 3D games I play are on my PSP, I've only done mostly JRPG types; Final Fantasy, Pokemon, or touchy games like Prof Layton before now. D-pad is horrible for wandering about. My lefty housemate was rubbing in she can use stylus and action buttons at the same time. I might stick with it, not sure. The real time thing is just kind of annoying tbh.

    Terrible Jokes

One I was telling my housemate today (due to timely BMW driver); BMW driver parks up on a busy road, opens his car door without looking as a car speeds past and rips the door off the hinges A policeman comes up to the scene as the BMW driver starts shouting and cussing "that dickhead just destroyed my beautiful beemer!". The policeman responds "eurgh, you materialistic yuppie types disgust me. You're so worked up over your car you've failed to notice your arm has been ripped clean off!". The BMW driver looks in shock and horror at the bloody stump, "my..my..my Rolex!".
  7. This is a huge "innernet pet peeves" if there ever was one.

      Eleven

Yeah that was cool. I read about that on my way home one night and completely forgot to check it out when I got home.

I must confess, Radio Broker was my favorite, because I was the target demographic.

  8. For example that tree doesn't grow pears.
  9. So Batman of the Future and Beyond. I used to quite like it as a kid, though didn't get to watch it all due to the whole "it's on Cartoon Network" (or similar Sky channel) thing. I quite liked Shriek, especially the scene where he goes Death. McGinnis was a bit of a nob, but that did mean character development, and always awesome to have Bruce around being old but still Batman.
  10. http://www.theyfightcrime.org/ Via Cyber Rat. I'd say it misses a trick in not being under 140 characters.
  11. Because it's the "Studio Deaths and lay-offs" thread. As opposed to the "Next Xbox Already rolling out to devs?" thread.
  12. psst. http://forum.pressxordie.com/topic/1776-studio-deaths/page-2#entry106352
  13. Surely instead of saying it's an always-on connection, if it was any of the the other things then it would be rumoured that next Xbox will have "push updates" "social media" etc, not "always-on". For example the PS4 is able to do internet related things while in stand-by (and can be disabled), but this is not "always-on". You are not required to have an internet connection in order to carry out tasks such as playing games or media, which "always-on" connatates. edit: the silence is unnerving. This isn't the silence of a "we want to hype the launch" this is the silence of "oh shit, the PS4 is crap tons better than we expected" (it blew away pundits too). The 8GB RAM has been mentioned as a secret Sony kept very close to chest (even from devs), and will have shaken them. This Always-On thing really should have been refuted if not true, and also taken by the horns to really show it off too if it's a thing they believe in and as a core part of the next xbox. Instead the silence sends a message of them not being too sure in it, which is not a good stance to have with an expected launch in less than 8months.
  14. Eh, stand-by and push-updates are terms already existing for those types of connection. "Always-on" is pretty much implied to be an internet based DRM system. And also compulsory given the "Always" part (It'd be "sometimes-on" otherwise. )
  15. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/04/10/following-twitter-tirade_2c00_-microsoft-designer-adam-orth-has-been-fired.aspx Adam "Always On" Orth no longer with MS. edit: GI have changed thier link https://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/04/10/following-twitter-tirade_2c00_-microsoft-designer-adam-orth-resigns.aspx
  16. They're usually pretty good. For example here's Blood Dragon. And Arkham Origins.

    World Politics

I've seen that doing the rounds and it annoys me that it says "mongler" instead of "monger". Spell checking is not a hard thing. (Also I was under the impression america doesn't get this ad campaign)
  18. Superman is only good in the What-Ifs.
  19. "continuous fusion reactions" that last all of a few seconds. Also the concept of using fusion as it is used in bombs for space propulsion isn't exactly a new idea, it's the main idea behind Daedelus, however it's still a concept. We still have the problem of maintaining and controlling nuclear fusion explosions.
  20. http://www.vgleaks.com/possible-dlc-for-ps3-final-fantasy-xx-2-remakes/ So the rumour is that the changes that the International Editions bring, such as Advanced Sphere Grid, Dark Aeons, etc, will be sold separately as DLC for the HD re-release. Which makes it $53 to get it all. As I said on Twitter I would hope the Euro release at least comes with it all included or beyond the HDness (which can easily be achieved in PCSX2) it's less of a game than was released in Europe over a decade ago.
  21. As in Ray Kurzwel stuff? Nope, not really the thread for it, this is more for like random advancements and bits of tech/science that crops up now n then as opposed to things that may come in the future. But feel free to bring it up if you want, I'm only a bit through Singularity Is Near mind, but know the rough outlining of it.
  22. Yeah, I'm somewhat skeptical. I'd maybe work on the fusion before working on the fusion powered martian rocket. Horse before the cart.
  23. Douglas Adams did finish H2G2. Someone else took it upon themselves to add in an extra story later.
  24. Snap on my thinking too. I do see some issues folks have with the "how do you explain the modern looking suits when it's meant to be set some years before". I doubt they'll go with a Joker focused game again. At worst a cameo near the end/post-credits or something. But given the spread of characters already shown I think they're going to be diving into Batman's rogue gallery and giving some a dusting off.
