  1. http://www.nytimes.com/1996/07/14/magazine/the-net-is-a-waste-of-time.html An article from '96 by sci-fi author William Gibson about the internet. Kind of an insightful, albeit short, read.
  2. Worth noting a sketchy feed for a fair chunk of the viewing so stuff might slip through the cracks if he specifically mentioned Seattle. Might grab the feed in full and re-watch some point this weekend.
  3. http://www.greenmangaming.com/bundles/ Well this is a pretty cracking deal. Pre-order Bioshock Infinite for £23.99 and get Bioshock and one other selected game free. It's already good deal on Infinite so the free games are quite a bonus.
  4. Why the fuck did he start talking about UK then?
  5. Isn't it based in the UK anyway? I kinda figured from that he wasn't related to Cole directly or distantly. Just a different Conduit.
  6. Since I think one of you is based on the lip of the trigger and the other on the middle you could just say concave and convex. Also the ..prongs or whatever palm rests, are almost directly based on the NavCon of the Move, much more rounded than prior Dualshocks. I assume that's based on the "I have manly hands that crush tinsy Dulashock" complaints.
  7. That'd be my Note (but Touchwiz is pretty much same between them). Multi-tasking button is holding down home button, same as it always been. That's a screenshot of the built in Task Manager I mentioned. You get to it either via the icon in app drawer, or the multi-tasking menu at the bottom (so there's a tip for Mister Jack) Unsure what you're looking at on the left though in the previous screenshot. There's the USB, 3G(from Powertoggles), and Steam in the notification shade. Active Apps icons is just a sort of loading circle for an icon. Then icons for the running apps.
  8. You can close Active Apps as well as clear the RAM. Which yeah is good for misbehaving apps, especially FB (though it's getting better).
  9. Yeah I'm kinda fine with the recommendation stuff, I've bemoaned many time about Steams lackluster offering in that dept ("you own super popular game everyone has, therefore you must like super popular game everyone also has/irrelevant game"). Sony has a few thousand games to pick from, so a bit of a "oh btw you've not heard of this game, but you might like it" is nice to have now n then. Cos there will be a lot of games I've not heard of, and discoverability can be a real PITA these days for content producers and consumers. As for the headset I'd assume just like the PS3 it'll support Bluetooth headsets. PS3 has never not supported headsets, it's just people didn't have that first headset so folks complained there wasn't much communication going on. A shitty mono headset will be enough to work, but still cheap enough to throw one in every box and still let folks use a bluetooth headset like before. As for purchasing: Wait a year unless you're super duper hyped for something only out on PS4. Gives time for a price cut, things like RROD to be uncovered, game library to be built up (and launch titles to drop in price) and you can pick up 10 games for the console so you're not buying it, having three games to play then being all "I'm bored now". edit: I don't think Thursday meant they could use your CC to look up purchasing habits, he meant they could use your CC details to clear all the money out of your account. Cayman Islands are a tax haven.
  10. Also Samsungs comes with it built in. Hold down the Home button.
  11. Well there's two so it's likely.
  12. General rule of thumb is you don't release numbered sequels on a new console launch (it's not Killzone 4 either). Unless you mean a direct sequel, in which case mostly because InFamous 2 had a rather final finale.

    Day Z

http://store.steampowered.com/app/224580/ It's now up on Steam.
  14. I had this saved for posting so here I am. Yeah it's a bit of a no shit. I saw it mentioned you'd be able to stream games if you pop the disc in (it'll still be able to read disc, even if it can't fully process the data), but I've not seen that as any official word. Seems a reasonable thing to do, solves issues of trying to tie disc games to accounts (like what cropped up with the PSP Go/Vita). I'd imagine some games could be ported over though, mainly the multi-plat games, and Minis. Still it hammers home the whole "Don't invest too much in a digital collection on console".
  15. I think his initial speech was a bit weird and unrelated. Trailer looked fine though, and bit more InFamous is always welcome. Be interesting to see how it ties into the overall universe, if at all, given the ending of InFamous 2.
  16. Well I think I've posted about Any.Do a fair few times, it recently updated to have "Any.Do Moments" which is kinda neat (gives you a breakdown at the start of the day of tasks to do, lets you re-schedule for later day, or put an alarm on for them at specific point in the day). Has a Chrome extension too. AirDroid is something I'll use now and then because I'm lazy and because some of the phone tasks are easier done on a PC when you have one at hand. Hacker's Keyboard is my keyboard of choice (they're super simple to swap between, tap the keyboard icon in notification shade to change between them), though I'm unsure if the SGS3 is big enough to comfortably use it. BBC News for my news on the go. Might be less relevant for you though since US stuff comes under "World", but good for at a glance stuff I guess. There's always Pulse and Feedly for regular ole RSS stuff (others use Currents and Flipboard, I'm not a fan) Oh and I use Nova as my launcher, with DCiKonz for the icon themeing. I linked my AppAware account up above, maybe flip through some of my stuff on there. I guess Screenfilter is neat too, I find my phone a bit too bright at night and out n about. Oh and Pocket too, I sort of use it as part "read it later" (its original name) and part "read it on my PC, can't be arsed opening the link someone posted to Twitter right now".
  17. Well PS3 already connects to Facebook, I guess this is just taking it a bit of a step further, in some cases it'd be handy for me because my status on PS3 isn't a joke, I don't know half the guys I have on PSN despite most of them being like you lot n such (I don't add randoms). Graphics will be about on-par with current mid-high end. Main thing is they're all likely to be running in 1080p unlike last gen, so that'll be a notable mark-up from PS3, but most PC games run at screen resolution anyway so you're looking at around and far in excess of 1080p on PCs anyway. Polygon count isn't as huge a thing as it was in ye olden days (something David Cage fucked up on), hence them bringing out folks like Blow for Witness. Stuff that'll be big for using console grunt on will be physics and AI. The little touches that make something feel alive and believable. More RAM means bigger worlds too, less of the issue of GTAIV where you get hold of one rare supercar and now all the cars are super cars due to it only loading a handful of models into memory.
  18. Ah that's what TFG meant. I was confused a bit. "You just want Nintendo games on Xbox despite all the stuff you just stated?". TN understood what I said.
  19. Yeah I'm not a fan of what I've see of the UI so far, XMB was pretty spot on imo. Naming, standby and auto-downloading stuff is likely going to be optional to enable/disable as you wish.
  20. Sony really hit it out of the park with this one, I think it has gone a fair bit beyond original expectations, rectifying every issue with the PS3 and then some. The architecture is too exotic! Well here's an x86 CPU. The RAM is too limited! Well here's 8GBs of GDDR5 RAM. The downloads are too slow! Well we'll let you start playing before the download even finishes then. Not enough people talk online! Well here's a bundled headset (and standard headset port) Blu-Ray is too slow! Well here's a 6X BD-drive. I can't play Halo! Well here's Halo Destiny. I can't afford video capture hardware! Well it's built into the console. Demons Souls is too hard! Well your friend can beat it for you over the internet. And all the other random stuff on top. I think it'll be hard to fuck this one up, pretty much only major issue with it people will have is the lack of B/C and the yet to be announced price. And, while me me winning the lottery is more likely, MS could pull something neat out their arse. Also the outlier of the Steambox too, which won't be exact, but could duplicate a fair chunk of these features (pretty much any PC could) but that's never really stopped consoles in the past. Gaikai and similar streaming related goodies are their ace up the sleeve for now. Playing as the game downloads has been attempted before in PC space but never took off. Also for those curious the (tentative) weight of the DS4 is only 10g more than the DS3.
  21. Depends what kind of utility you want out of it?
  22. Who you want to die so that you can harvest her organs to transplant into your two friends?
  23. http://www.develop-online.net/news/43325/Indie-dev-makes-12k-through-piracy-promotion Anodyne did well, by their book, in advertising on Piratebay. Obvisoly those numbers aren't going to turn heads in AAA studios, but for indies it's a fair chunk of dosh. I'd say the Greenlight thing is probably worth more in the long run than any direct income at this moment in time.
