  1. Going off the rumoured specs, the EA comments on lackof BC and the purchase of Gaikai I'm beginning to think that B/C is only going to be via streaming or keeping hold of your PS3. Which means your disc games won't work with PS4, could be a silly move but I mentioned aaaggggeeeessss back that I think it's stupid people would offload their old console so quick anyway. I can see it becoming a potential sticking point for people. I wonder if PS4 will be as open to homebrew as previous consoles or if the abuse of Linux in PS3 pretty much burned Sony on all that business. Hope not, now is the time to strike on strong homebrew and indie development.
  2. http://www.siliconera.com/2013/02/18/first-look-at-final-fantasy-x-running-on-playstation-vita/ So it's definitely still being made. Seems no word on it being a triple-pack, which kinda sucks and makes you really wonder what the hell they're doing with it.

gravel + atmosphere + vast speed = nothingness. A bunch of gravel isn't what wiped out the dinosaurs. Also I guess a slight cultural difference I just noticed. If I was to pull a nuclear-pulse craft out I'd have chosen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Daedalus I guess that's one difference in the school physics books.
  4. No game has been supported for 10 years before? And on PC? Straight off the top of my head there's Final Fantasy XI. Probably a few others on top of that, I think Gaia Online hit ten the other day, and Kingdom of Loathing. On the PC front of things would be much better for them if they'd just said "We couldn't be bothered to make a PC port for reasons". And let folks move from there instead of saying what he did say and being relatively largely wrong and giving folks a lot of things to pick on and bring up over the years against them (especially when the inevitable PC port comes, cos yeah 10 year game it's coming out on PC.). Especially not announcing a PC release at the same time as announcing a 10 year game for two very quickly about to die consoles like one of them is going to officially become last-gen in like two days time how did they not know to not announce anything until E3 what the hell Bungie.
  5. It's obvious from context that I meant a dedicated wifi connection between the console and the handheld/tablet, a la Wii U. The Vita does not connect directly to the PS3, it connects to my home network, which the PS3 is also connected to, and uses that to get the signal through. It wasn't obvious from context as the PS vita does connect directly manuals.playstation.net/document/gb/psvita/remoteplay/viaprivate_lan.html I'd actually figured you might have thought there was some special way of optimizing wi-fi for video.

..or a lot of explosives. The intention isn't to blow up a 1km+ asteroid, largest dent we've ever made with a nuke is 0.3km crater anyway, it's to impact the side/surface of it enough to divert the course of the asteroid (while also lowering the overall mass).
  7. See the video I linked yesterday that sparked the recent bit of activity in this thread.
  8. Remote Play connects directly the the PS3 too. And there's no such thing as a "video out wifi" Remote Play at a system level is theoretically possible however since PSone titles can utilise, and since they're made before Remote Play was ever a thing it can be assumed the PS3 F/W is giving them a helping hand. I imagine it's locked game to game in order for some games that push the PS3 to not be extra strained on top. PS4 would assumedly be able to bear the brunt a bit better, especially as tech has advanced in that area too over the years. edit: No it uses Wi-Fi, bluetooth is for the Wiimotes.

But the platform is Nintendo. If the quality of Nintendo games were to dip upon becoming a third party studio then people would be less inclined to buy Nintendo games in future, so each game does affect the rest. It's that way with all studios. (see the discussion in ACM thread)

Everything in the "nuke them" plan is built and relatively ready to launch. Just need Space Treaty to be temporarily repealed (depending on urgency I'd say it could be done in the space of a few hours). If nuking them doesn't work out it doesn't really matter how long of a heads up we had, we have nothing more powerful than nuclear weapons for the act of blowing shit up.
  11. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-17-destiny-bungie-unveils-its-shared-world-shooter Seems a good enough write-up. Also shifting this from Xbox to Multi-plat. Always Online on a console could end up being a a bit of a killer for it. I've only had a light skim up to now though (kinda lengthy article). Got things to do and it's not exactly a game that I'm hyped for like some.
  12. He's already said he profits from criticism (after his 2-3 day radio silence post launch) so he's clearly taking it in his stride.
  13. Both Remote Play and Gamepad use Wi-Fi so unless you play with a faraday cage and/or wall between you and your console it shouldn't have any affect.

    Wii U

They're still a publicly traded company, and thus profit focused. Their titles would be pushing themselves. Even more so given they'd be competing up against a much wider variety of games.
  15. From my understanding of how you use the Gamepad on Wii U you don't want the games to make use of it, just the system to allow Remote Play. I can't see the input lag between Vita and Gamepad being any different, they're both doing the same job over the same signal, but I'd have to take your word on it.

ESA is set to test their "Don Quixote" system (slam an satellite into the side of an asteroid) in the next two years. Until we need to waste a nuke on an asteroid it likely won't be put in the testing stages ever. Especially as international treatise expressly forbid it. For now extensive nuclear testing and computer simulations will do.

    Wii U

Given that, beyond the controllers, the competitors consoles are many magnitudes more advanced I can only see their games getting better. Online play would improve drastically for one. Their developers would still be mostly the same guys. Also their handheld arm would likely remain still.

The big ones are already tracked, and as far as I'm aware there's stuff in place to deal with "the big ones" (though not dinosaur level ones). The small ones just aren't worth tracking, would require way too much effort for very little pay-off, since most of them will burn up in the atmosphere and those that hit tend to hit ocean/middle of nowhere (humans cover like >1% of earth) and be not much bigger than a fist. Tunguska is one of the biggest in living memory and hit(well..) with the force measure in megatons. Killed....no one. If it's bigger than a kilimotre it's most likely being tracked, anythign smaller is assumed to be of little to no harm to humans should it reach the ground.
  19. Duke Nukem, Colonial Marines, Half-Life, Halo, basically have Gearbox as "that studio that happily has other studios sloppy seconds". The only two franchises they fully have to their name being Brothers in Arms (of which the upcoming one seems to have a rather low expectation, and ACM won't help) and Borderlands, where most of the fun is provided by you. Gearboxes general reputation isn't going to come away from this unscathed, and their upcoming games are going ot have to do hella good to repair it. Their upcoming games being the aforementioned BiA as well as a Duke Nukem sequel. SEGA are also highly unlikely to work with them ever again too, and are probably a bit miffed they went with Gearbox over Obsidians RPG.
  20. So it turns out the above discussion about Gearbox pedigree was moot since Gearbox shared the game with I think 3 other studios. Though Gearbox will likely take most of the brunt of the bad PR. As the video said Colonial MArines is a bit worrying as we learnt from Dead Island ignore the cinematic trailers But now we learn to ignore gameplay ones too, and now with news demos hurt games, thus less demos, it severely limits sources to trust. Been a bit of a push in using it as a rallying point against pre-ordering too from TotalBiscuit. I'm not really an Aliens fan, but I imagine for those that had been following along for the past 6 years of development it must have been quite a kick in the jaw.
  21. http://awards.bafta.org/award/2013/games Nominees for this year. Once again Strategy proving to be an elusive genre. (And once again I'll point out the devs put themselves in these categories). I assume "Development Team" is placeholder text. It's kinda neat they're listing lead devs and not just studios.
  22. http://mojang.com/2013/02/minecraft-pi-edition-is-available-for-download/ Minecraft Pi is out and it's free. As far as I'm aware it's based on Minecraft pocket, the UI is much the same, and is also programmable with Python (as is the spirit of Pi).
  23. It's been pushed to 14th June. Which is pretty much right after E3, so I've a feeling it's going to be Sonys software centrepiece (since obviously PS4 will be their hardware centerpiece).
