  1. heh. Just fired off an application to the same college. What a difference three months can make. (I clearly didn't get that job). Not long after past post I became a guinea pig for the northern roll out of this "CIPD Mentorship" scheme. So since late November I've been meeting with my mentor every 1-2 weeks discussing various application process, expanding pool of employers, working over CV, organising work experience etc. That work experience was a pretty big thing, was at the IT Support dept. Same place I'm now applying for an apprenticeship role at. Apprenticeship does mean sub-NMW but comes with stuff that balances it out; being twice what I'm on with job seekers, it's a course so you get a qualification at the end of it, they'll likely take me on afterwards or failing that they're obligated to help me look for a job, and as it's a course it's also a guaranteed length of employment (unlike when it was Orion and was booted after 3 months with wibbly pay n all that). Also it's a 10-15 walk away so transport isn't an issue either unlike many other roles. So yeah if you're in UK and are or know of any young unemployed get em to ask their Jobs advisor about the CIPD mentorship. My Jobs Advisor has pointed out it's essentially a head hunter scheme, which I guess is pretty true, but it's worked out/working out fine for me so far.
  2. Jetpack Joyride. Well as much as you can "beat" the game; i.e completing all the missions the first time around. Playing it alongside Temple Run 2 really shows a vast difference in the two methods of making goals in the game. Jetpack is all like "high five 15 scientists in one run" and Temple Run 2 all "collect "1 million coins". p.s: If you ain't got Jetpack grab it. it's pretty neat n well made. F2P but more a case of "unlock things faster" sense.

    Ouya

They can tweak Android to change how it handles multi-tasking. And due to mains supply power they don't need to underclock it, could even overclock it.

    Ouya

Yeah some people seem a rather vehemently opposed to this idea despite the fact that it's how Tegra and many phones are produced. Android itself is a on a current annual tick-tock release schedule. It's not a Nintendo/MS/Sony console so it doesn't need to arbitrarily tie itself to such long-term and obsolescence inducing release schedules. So you get the mobile/PC advantage of being able to make use of latest tech while still supporting the current install base. Just seems some sensible people who I know don't do it with PC components feeling they'd need to buy every single new Ouya that comes out each year.
  5. http://www.game.co.uk/en/sleeping-dogs-181801 Sleeping Dogs, £7.50. Likely UK only but I swear someone on here (I think Tenshi) has bought from GAME before.

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/ouya-partners-with-double-fine-and-words-with-friends-creator/ Ouya to get Reds, The Cave and DoubleFine Adventure. Also something from Words with Friends creator but that isn't named/announced. Also it's to hit Amazon, Best Buy, Target and I swear I read Gamestop elsewhere but maybe not: http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/02/05/ouya-finds-a-friend-with-amazon/ edit: http://www.amazon.com/OUYA-Console-Coming-June-2013/dp/B0050SZD18/
  7. I get they've the PC and monitor in the background to show what it's doing on the PC, but at that range you may as well use a 360 pad. Obviously this does a bit more than just that and the Nvidia Grid thing is sort of more of a side feature, but does seem exceedingly niche. Neat tech, but within the home rather niche. I'll use Splashtop occasionally to control my PC from living room but if I was gaming I'd move my ass to my PC tower and play on the bigger screen.
  8. It's two hours long though. Even I'm not sad enough to sit through all that (yet). But could probably jump back n forth for vague look over it all.

    Valve

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/06/newell-valve-looking-to-make-portal-or-half-life-move-with-j-j/ JJ Abrams potentially working with Valve to make a Half Life or Portal film.
  10. http://boingboing.net/2013/02/06/games-workshop-trademark-bully.html Boo!!
  11. People are stupid and think there's a black and white divide/rivalry between the two companies.
  12. You'd think so but many people think because Sony developed Blu-Ray that either a)they won't let MS have it b)MS won't touch it with a 10' barge pole. Completely ignoring the fact Sony developed CD and DVD and MS have used DVD fine (also forgetting all of Sonys media is proprietary, just some more successful than others), and SCE and the Sony that made Blu-Ray are different companies.
  13. http://imgur.com/a/TsvIV Some screenshots. You get a horse. Also I should maybe have a looksy into the books, but the slow translation to English is kind of off-putting (mainly in case they're good. I wouldn't want to have to stop reading before getting to the end)
  14. http://dutchuncles.co.uk/ - I went to see this band yesterday with my housemate (and her dad, her brother, and his GF. It'll be the brothers birthday on Thursday.) They were okay I guess. Not terrible for sure (though they claimed to make a few mistakes in first couple songs, but I didn't pick up on anything). Seemed pretty friendly though. Anyway this is more for sharing n such.
  15. I'm not being a twat, I thought that was the response you were going for. (Check the song I linked...).
  16. Because I want to? I could link the video where Billie Piper n Matt Smith bang instead of you want?
  17. Unless the Lords block it (and/or the Queen but she never has done afaik) the Marriage (Same-Sex) Bill passed. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-21346220 400 for, 175 against (of which 136 were tories * .) Personally I'm still in favour of no marriage, just Civil Partnerships. That way you don't have to have MPs being all "adam and steve" n other religion based reasonings for being against equal rights. (It'd also make the law a shit ton shorter since as best I can tell most of the wording of the new bill is religion based, especially since Church of England has to be banned from giving SS marriages) http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/blog/2013/feb/05/gay-marriage-debate-politics-live-blog *This bill being one of Cameron's love children of late. Most of his party voted against him. Which isn't that great for him. Nor future election prospects. Suddenly Lib Dems won't care so much one of their guys resigned over a speeding ticket.
  18. GOG deals time: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/avadon_the_black_fortress - I got this in a Humble Bundle. Was a pretty fun game, rather old school but very playable. http://www.gog.com/news/special_promo_the_witcher_3_announced_get_the_first_two_for_50_off - Witcher 1 and 2 on sale. Again. edit: They're on sale on steam too.
  19. She used to be married to Chris Evans too. But not that Chris Evans, the other Chris Evans. Anywho

    Sim City V

Yeah GOH is making it somewhat tempting. Then I look at the price n regardless of any thoughts DRM or not I won't be getting it at launch.
  21. I'm gonna take a stab in the dark n say that AMD are cheaper. They can also offer a more unified solution too since they own ATI, whereas all Intel has on the GPU front is the Intel GMA and that super sucks.

    DOTA 2

At the moment I can do weekday GMT nights (par random events). Just hit me up on Steam. In fact if I'm not away/mobile then hit me up for most games if you're wanting to play anything.
  23. Oh you're talking in Ghz not in architecture. As long as they're the same architecture the Ghzs n cores shouldn't matter too much. PC games already deal with a broad range of Ghz n cores. Current gen: PC - X86 X360 - PowerPC(tweaked with Cell components) PS3 - Cell BE (Highly modified PowerPC) Wii - PowerPC Next gen: PC - X86 Xbox 3 - X86(I think it's rumoured) PS4 - X86 (rumoured) Wii U - PowerPC Ouya - ARM OnLive/Gaikia - X86(but anything, it's virtualised) I think it's worth mentioning the main difference is that ARM, PowerPC and it's variants are RISC, which is why these types of processors are used for things like phones and consoles. Whereas X86 used on general purpose computers, are CISC. CISC isn't great for consoles, but I've a feeling the potential use of x86 chips for 8th gen consoles is likely a response to the seemingly increasingly dominant position of PC gaming. It would allow with it an ease of porting and increase in third party support (something Sony enjoys a fair chunk of over the years up until Cell) with PC-centric/multi-plat studios.
  24. Aren't they both rumoured to be rocking AMD X86 chips?
