  1. We have the day off, but I did see one of my friends at Mizzou tweet "Fuck this, we shouldn't have to go to uni today."
  2. Hey, FFXIII isn't nearly as bad as everyone made it out to be! Though Vanille's Aussie-Brit accent is kind of maddening, and I'm only a couple of hours in, so I expect to go a little insane before the game is through.

      Really? Fuck that theory, Chopin.

If anything, having Final Fantasy in the name was the one thing that made me at all interested in the first place.

It definitely is a draw, but I think what I'm getting at is that FF is held to a standard that doesn't exist for many other franchises. People have come to (even after the mixed response the last few got) expect/demand excellence from FF titles, and anything less than incredible kinda labels it as kind of a flop.

Not to say I think the world would have fell in love with XIII otherwise, I just feel like it got judged more harshly than it would if it were not a FF title.

Hmmm, whiny reluctant protagonist? Check. Plucky not of legal age jail bait? Check. Big Robots? Check. Ambiguous religious references? Check. Yep, it's got all the cliches.

  3. Glad to hear that it's possible. That's exactly like the first game; they set you up in a situation where you think, "Eh, this guy's a goner", but if you decide NAH FUCK THIS you can save them.
  4. Wow, Four Lions on TV? I'm amazed they got away with that.
  5. Jeez, thanks for the spoilers. Also, speaking of... Is there any way to save YOU KNOW WHO?
  6. Those fuckers at GameStop stuffed the 3 FFXIII discs into one slot. LAST FUCKING STRAW. I will A(Order it from Amazon new, B(Use the $27 I paid for it at GameStop for another game from them and C( Never buy from them again.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue then.

Here we have this terrible, grindy monster of a game that no sane person would ever want to make their way through, and you're concerned about minor differences in the 360 port?

  7. Hey, I'm thinking about picking up Final Fantasy XIII for $20. Good idea, or bad idea?

20 dollars is cheap and all but it's not the best game I've ever played, to put it lightly.

Note, you are essentially only auto fighting for most of the game. Take care...

  8. After Call of Juarez: The Cartel? Unless I see some concrete evidence that it isn't a broken pile of shit shingles attached to spider's legs and chewed-up spitting gum, certainly not!
  9. Only 3 out of 5 classes require textbooks this semester. And they're all far apart from each other, so I'm never carrying more than three books + iPad at once in my messenger bag.
  10. All right. After listening to Podtoid, watching the Jimquisition and reading more Destructoid articles, I take the bad things I said about Jim Sterling back. He actually seems like a pretty nice person. Opinionated, but nice. Also, Podtoid is pretty damn funny.

  11. I'm on the third boss. I beat the second boss because she got stuck in a corner, forever running into one of the electrical outlets. I just kept shooting her until she died. I don't think I'll be as lucky this time around, especially since I did something I shouldn't have earlier on, and then throughout this level you learn details about the stupid thing you did and you're like "FUCK, I'm going to get boned soon, aren't I?"
  12. I don't know why, but this is, by far, my most memorable scene.
  13. I found this username/password combo in the police station in DX:HR; Decker/Unicorns. :)

  14. Just dawned on me that I've had my first horrible teacher of college, and it only took three semesters. I'm very lucky.

  15. Today, I discovered with an absolute certainty that I want to be a writer. Now that I finally know what I want to do with my life, I'm the happiest I've ever been.

  16. http://kotaku.com/5836588/adventure-world-is-zyngas-take-on-tomb-raider++and-another-step-toward-real-games I know Joel can be insufferable, but he does have a point here. It seems like Zynga is teaching the masses how to play games by slowly adding deeper mechanics into their games.
  17. If by "start" you mean "use one of the hundred fitness sites that provide this service free of charge", then yes.
  18. With all of these Star Wars Blu-Ray leaks, I'm feeling three emotions. I'm laughing because of how stupid the edits are. I'm angry because George Lucas is a prick for doing it. And I'm really, really sad that my favorite movies of all time are getting ruined, and I may never see the original versions again. That last bit put me in a very foul mood, and tampered with everything today.

I'm actually just finishing cancelling my order of the entire saga on amazon. These movies I cherish with all my heart but those stupid edits really put me off. I'll eventually get it, or maybe just the original trilogy when it's on sale, but for now, stupid tampering means not worthy of full price...

Unfortunately this is what he wanted. Lucas said in one making of that he wanted to make the perfect version of the film, and that will be the one that will be preserved forever. The fool.

  19. Wait, you can opt out? Okay, that's all I needed to hear.
  20. Fuck that woman. She specifically baited the readers just to get hits. She is the definition of someone who sells her soul for a paycheck, while trying to take down an innocent person at the same time. It's sad and depraving, and I thought Gizmodo was above this. I almost never use this word because it is a disgusting word, but she's one of the FEW women who deserve the title; she's a cunt.
  21. I saw In The Mouth of Madness. Very, very cheesy 90s horror movie made by John Carpenter. Books are treated like some mind-altering drug, and Sam Neill (who is unbearably atrocious as the lead) acts all cool and brags about how he doesn't read. They treat book-readers like they're juvenile humans even before the book starts driving people mad, which got some good chuckles out of me. It tries really hard to be an H.P. Lovecraft movie. The author, Sutter Cane, writes novels that share titles and covers remarkably similar to Lovecraft's work. Many of the monsters have a Lovecraft feel to them. They even rip some lines right from a few of his books. The big problem is that it just sort of stumbles in the execution. The scenes go on for too long (there's one part where Sam Neill goes through the same motions five or six times in a row, past the point where you're screaming "OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE, GO THE OTHER WAY!"), characters appear and disappear on a regular basis without much explanation, and some of the lines are so terrible that they could be considered purposefully cheesy or jokey, if the actor delivered it another way. And the ending? The ending is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. The ending is like this one big joke, or wink to the audience, and then it just abruptly stops. It feels like they didn't have anything close to the proper budget for this movie, or they think shooting what needed to be shown for the ending wouldn't have done it justice (and they'd be right; the effects, even for a movie in the 90s, are garbage). I would love it if someone decided to remake this, change the ending, rewrite the dialog and give it a clearer focus. As it stands, this movie is a sad example of a great premise ruined by poor budget, bad writers and Sam Fucking Neill.
  22. I've created my blog for class, Cartridge Campus! First order of business; I'm adding pressxordie.com as a link on the side. Other than that, I need to get some actual content going. I'm also wondering if I should drop the $17 to get cartridgecampus.com or not.

Also, how's the new car handling for ya? It always looked like it was more sensitive and physics based than the Stadium track, which I didn't really like. The environments from TM1 that I hated the most were the ones that were most sensitive and reliant on physics out of your control (Desert, Bay, etc.)

The drifting feels a lot more satisfying than it's been in the past, and the game not only looks better but runs better than TrackMania ever did.

That's good to hear about the performance. For some strange reason using high-quality shaders always killed the FPS in Stadium tracks on my gaming PC.
