  1. major was referring to the functionality it was adding which quite frankly, reading the list of features I can't think what it actually will be able to do before the update apart from turn on and tell you you need to connect to the internet to stop it from being an expensive paperweight. but either way I have certainly had some pretty torturous 30mb PS3 downloads, so I wouldn't look forward to a 300mb one that everyone is trying to get at once. and since you bring the wii u update up... remember how everyone hated that and said it ruined the day one experience? exactly. I don't want this becoming standard feature of new console releases. It just makes me feel like the consoles are rushed to market and while software can be updated later, how do you know the hardware has been properly optimised and tested? definitely the hardware and software haven't been married as closely as they could have been. I was happy when being an early adopter just meant paying a premium and taking a risk on backing the right horse, I am not prepared to take a risk on the console itself not being up to scratch.
  2. it is for core functionality that in my mind makes it major. millions of people trying to download it at once will make it a hassle, sitting there watching it install when you want to be playing with your shiny new toy will take the sheen of it.
  3. I think this may be the first time I've actually thought a bird was cute.
  4. The PS4 will have a pretty major day one download. Do you think it's a bit of a bummer to have to download 300mb the second you turn your new console on? I could sort of understand that some advanced functionality was not ready when the hardware was being manufactured, e.g the voice commands, but enabling online play and especially something as basic as DVD and blu ray playback kind of boggles my mind. Also for it to activate party chat? How was that not the first thing they made functional after all the fuss about it on PS3? It makes me glad I'm not going to pick one up for a few years when it will all be settled down.
  5. I think it's fair to include windchill, after all that's what you're out in.
  6. woah, where do you have to deal with that sort of weather?

And we'd all be more than happy to call you an asshole.
  8. Thanks, that was really handy - I was trying to get a plot summary yesterday but the wikipedia page was not that clear.
  9. So I remember someone got this as a present. (at least the British version, it's the same company). I want to say HH...? I'm pretty much sure whoever it was this is an accurate recreation of the scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_BZsIY6PUPU
  10. box art I like both versions - it's unusual not to have a person as the focus on a cover. and with link peering in from the corner on to the glade it has a sense of serenity and discovery. I hope this means there is more of an emphasis on exploration and puzzles rather than fighting, but I may just be reading too much into it.
  11. at 2.52 there is a sound that's exactly like the xbox sound? I don't know if it's from the music but it's the only time you hear it is when they turn the PS4 on. Weird.
  12. How many pokemon are in the game if it's the only one you've played? I thought there were only the 700+ pokemon if you transferred them from older games?
  13. I like it - what sort of music would you call this? edit: Just realised it's quite similar in style to the song I put at the top of this page: are they the same genre? I need a hip young dude who's totally with-it to help me out.
  14. anyone willing/able to do this:
  15. I'm sure we must have something other than fascist movements. :/
  16. i can drag stuff on my desktop and it stays where i drop it so it's not a setting that's changed for everyone. I think they are putting it in the store instead of updates to prepare you for charging for updates in the future which they couldn't do if it was automatic via the update service.
  17. I just started howl's moving castle after I watched the film again on TV yesterday. It's a young adult book, but I like the writing style and supposedly it's different enough from the film to keep it interesting.
  18. America's favourite beers by state. Not being American I don't know how this fits with what you'd expect, but from here I'm surprised it is mostly light beers. I don't think they're popular at all in the UK.
  19. so has anyone installed the update yet?
  20. the multiple apps will be of use to the windows tablet user(s). rather than desktop users, and it does look handy. Everything in separate apps is the most annoying thing about mobile OSes and to have both the apps on the screen at once practically solves that problem.
  21. That's longer than I was expecting - I thought it was about six months to a year. Oh well. I will probably wait anyway since I probably won't even get around to it until then anyway knowing me.
  22. How long after the original pair of games does the third one normally come out (possibly Pokemon Z in this case)? Also can someone rename this the pokemon thread since it seems a bit wrong at the moment.
  23. so what's the X/Y split here? (pokemon not chromosomes)

Got myself X because science has proven that X is a better letter than Y.

I thought everyone had switched to Skylanders for their collectible monster children's game needs.

I got Y, myself, mainly because I really want the new Houndoom evolution. I'm willing to help out those with X in getting the Y-exclusive Pokemon, too. Just let me know what you need and we can work out a trade!

  24. Don't worry, I just never miss an opportunity to hate on Tesco.
