  2. I believe it was also a family run business (whatever that means in Japan) until Iwata took over after Yamauchi.
  3. Hiroshi Yamauchi, President of Nintendo from 1949 until 2002 has died at the age of 85. He presided over the company moving from a card maker to video games and was Japan's richest man at the hight of the Wii's popularity. People seem to easily dismiss Nintendo's contributions to video games history simply because they didn't like the Wii, but the company, under Hiroshi Yamauchi must may arguably have been the most most influencial single company in creating the market we have today.
  4. Sega are buying Atlas owners, Index, for ¥14b. I'm sure I remember people saying that there would be splits between the developer and publisher parts and all sorts of problems with IP rights being split. So is this good news? It means at least they will finally have a presence in Europe which has got to be an improvement. Sega set up a new company to deal with it called Sega Dream Corporation, if they started using their dreamcast logo on games that would be cool, though not entirely likely.
  5. Has there been any hints there may be a next gen release along with the PC one? I guess they'd want to keep it very quiet so as not to jeopardise current gen sales. ... hmmm, just looking around and it seems there are hints at a PS4 version at least, in the 360 source code.
  6. "Knock Knock" "Whose their?" "The Grammar Police" "Oh fuck"
  7. The Fall isn't an old film, unless I'm thinking of a different one? If you mean the one with Lee Pace, that is a modern visual spectacle like the blockbusters Dean metioned. but I'm guessing films like paranormal activity and Little Miss Sunshine and things like that wouldn't be worth paying more for HD and you would enjoy them just as much in SD. So that would just be a case of "I like this film so I want the best version of it" Then there are also older films from the 80s and before that just seem to have a fuzziness to the image that I can't imagine would disappear on blu ray. I'm sure some are on high quality film, and if converted properly would look great in HD, but not all of them.
  8. I usually only buy DVD if I'm not that interested or sure of the film as at £3-4 it's the price of renting it. If it's one I want to own for I'll get it on blu ray. If I ever got organised enough they would be the sorts of films I'd be streaming on netflix/lovefilm
  9. that's the exact price ranges I have in my head for those three things as well, except it's £3-4 for DVDs, you cheap bastard.
  10. possibly slightly NSFW The guy too funny.
  11. Hilarious for at least the first 10 seconds
  12. feeling emotional from a gum commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxZu-6jewL4 I don't know if I'm a horrible person but I thought the Dad was going t be dead by the end of it.
  13. Blitz, who made the Dizzy games have gone out of business after 23 years with 175 job losses. The two founders, the Oliver twins (who are semi-famous - at least I'd heard of them) have a couple of projects on the go and will be able to rehire around 50 of their previous employees. If you look at what they'd been making for the last decade or so it seems a a bit depressing so hopefully the smaller team to support will be able to make some more interesting games
  14. I'm the exact opposite of you then, TME - I never knew what was going on in the mainline games because there were so many characters to keep track of I ended up just looking for the glowing golden man and killing him. and to me the plot was so overly convoluted and interspersed between bouts of action in-game and then a year between games that I struggled to stitch it all together. I guess that's how I prefer my game stories - just enough to move the game a long and not bog you down. If I want a plot I'll watch a film, if I want characters I'll read a book. I've never played a game that I've been bothered about or invested in plot/character wise.
  15. "The Black Queen has stolen the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. You play as Aurora, a young princess with a pure heart whose soul is brought to the kingdom of Lemuria. Embark on a quest to recapture the three sources of light, defeat the Black Queen and restore the kingdom of Lemuria." http://childoflight-game.com/ It's a platforming adventure RPG with turn based combat and as you can see looks rather gorgeous. I think you can tell it's made with the same engine as Rayman, but looks different enough stylistically and gameplay-wise. Certainly I will be interested in this game as it moves along and I have to say, any game I see from ubisoft at the moment I'm likely to give the benefit of the doubt to. They seem to be on a roll at the moment.
  16. I'm playing the Vita version at the moment, and I won't go into another rant about how badly it controls [deleted rant about countering] (though can I add a new terror to the list: It's managed to be the worst underwater swimming mechanics I've ever used which is saying something). Let's just say I hope for everyone's sake they really mean it when they say "refined controls". If they fix the (many) major flaws in gameplay I think it's a decent game that's worth playing. I guess more powerful consoles will solve the issues with the graphics as well They should have cut out a lot of rats, butterflies, even townsfolk etc. assuming they were over just ambitious and it's not a problem with the engine. I think the light story is a positive - it's enough to keep me interested and I'm sure if Aveline was used over several mainline games not just one handheld spin-off they would have made it into just as needlessly convoluted a mess as the rest of the series.
  17. Well, I had an N64 and 10 games. I checked on eBay and all the games were worth about £10 each. I gave them to a friend at work. Later that week he came and told me that one of the games I gave him, Conker's Bad Fur Day is worth over £100 on its own. I don't know how I missed that. He asked if I wanted it back which was nice of him. I said he could keep it if he wanted to play it. He's kept it and I believe it's to play it. He's going off to uni soon so if he ever sells it now I'm happy for him to have the money. One thing though is I used to open games as soon as I got them, even though many of them I've still never played. I now only open then when I actually play them on the off chance one I never get round to goes up in price.
  18. Holy frick. AC Liberation must have the jankiest controls ever - it is SO frustrating. I'm trying to run a rooftop race in one minute and it is absolute torture. I'm hanging on an eave trying to get on the roof and instead of climbing up she's edging along the... edge. Jumping directly at a tree fork and she does sailing past it. trying to jump onto a high wire and she goes flying over it onto the ground. Stood at the bottom of a tree and running around it or sneak peeking around it instead of climbing it. I am feeling so agitated right now I'm on here taking a break from it again as I already gave up on it last night. Races are my least favourite thing in the AC series but in the other games I at least felt like my errors contributed to the context sensitive free running messing up. Here it just... I seriously have a knot in my stomach right now. ugh.
  19. I guess that's cool but I think it's cheeky as eff to charge for a game you have a monthly subscription for anyway.
  20. can you eat sunflower seeds from any sunflower? We have one in our garden we didn't plant and assume is from the bird food we put out.
  21. I don't know but get someone to film it! also, thank god he was saying nice things about her.
