Andrew Scott Reisse, co-founder of Oculus VR, was killed in a hit and run on Thursday by gang members who were fleeing police. I've always been skeptical of the Oculus Rift, but it's still sad that he won't get to see his invention released to the general public.

Anybody on here play the demo?

Spoilers?

The framerate was why I never finished Odin's Sphere too, but I think if they'd made it into a PS3 game instead of a PS2 one then I would have. This one should hopefully not have those problems.

Well it said in the video that Broken Age only makes up one-third of their workforce.

Think I might donate to this. I want to see what their stretch goals are first, though.

DRM, Online Pass, Project Ten Dollar and the like
Mister Jack replied to Yantelope's topic in General Gaming Chat
While I was looking for a video to put in the Dragon's Crown topic I made I found an interesting piece of info about the game. Why do online passes and project 10 dollar exist? To fight used games. Nobody likes them. What Dragon's Crown is doing is offering the first batch of DLC free to everyone who buys the game within the first month. Now, does this completely thwart used games? No. However, most new copies of a game are going to be sold within the first couple of months. Unless the game sucks, used copies usually won't be in abundance during those first few weeks. So, using a hypothetical (probably unlikely) PS4 example, if Sony were to reveal that most PS4 games would offer the same deal by giving early buyers a piece of free DLC that couldn't be downloaded directly from the PSN store without the game, and that was their way of trying to spur the sale of new games, would you be okay with that? Or would that still feel like you're being cheated? -
Well, to be fair, we don't know yet just how much content this game has like alternate paths, multiple endings, or other things like that. Maybe it WILL have enough to justify 50 dollars, but I can understand how someone might be reluctant at first glance.

http://youtu.be/7dZrwslwM4Q So, this game is going to be out soon. I dunno if anyone else here was keeping an eye on it but I, for one, can't wait. Not only have I always enjoyed this genre, but I've been itching for a good couch co-op game to play when friends visit. Here's your thread to discuss the game, whether it's the game itself or the controversy we keep hearing recently about certain character designs.

Did Star Trek do the angry phone slam? I don't remember.

I think they spelled out BOTH ways, which was odd. What bugged me was how it's the future and we have all this amazing technology but everyone still uses flip phones.

Did they ever announce an android one?

The Phoenix trilogy is now out on iOS in HD. The first two cases are free. The rest seem to be bought on an a la carte system as far as I can tell, with the complete total for all 3 games being 16.99.

I really feel like used games are made out to be a bigger problem than they really are. I used to work at a gamestop a long time ago, and I can tell you that although we did encourage used, the vast majority of games we sold were new, barring the old games that weren't being made anymore. Have you ever tried to find a used copy of a popular new game in the first week it came out? It can be harder than it sounds. Not everyone plays a new game, especially a multiplayer one, and then immediately brings it back. The only time I would usually see this would be if the game sucked. We got the odd copy here and there, maybe two or three at most, but they wouldn't last long and then everyone was right back to buying the new ones. The way the system works is a bit like how new movies work in the theater. The actual theater gets almost nothing out of the ticket sale for the first week or two after the movie comes out. That's why popcorn costs so damn much. This used game "problem" started for the same reason. They simply couldn't survive with the tiny margins they were getting from new sales, and used sales kept them afloat. I'm not saying used games don't take a bite out of a game's total profits, I'm just saying I don't feel like they take enough that their absence would have saved any of those studios who got shut down or any of those poor bastards who got laid off. There are bigger reasons than used games for why studios fail. Bad marketing, wasteful spending, or the game just plain sucks. If you can't sell enough copies of your game in the first couple of weeks to be a success, then it was probably never going to be a success.

This game is getting a mobile port, however it's being modified so it's less a puzzle game and more a visual novel. Are the puzzles a highlight of this game? Would I be missing much if I just downloaded it digitally?

I don't think it has a regular update schedule. He usually updates at least a few times a month. Edit: Well scratch that. It looks like he's settled into a Monday/Thursday schedule now. It used to be pretty erratic.

I didn't even know until it was pointed out to me that he's also Judge Dredd. It's kinda freaky.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/7370-When-The-Starscreams-Kill-Used-Games I know we normally don't care for Jim Sterling but for once I agree with pretty much everything he's saying here.

Best ending ever amirite?

I think it was Jon Blow who said that claim was full of shit because it was referring to virtual servers.

That's probably what Sony cares about more than the Wii U but I'm just curious to see which one appeals more to people on a purely conceptual level.

Gonna have to be me, huh?
