Supergiant Games have revealed their next game. Looks similar to Bastion gameplay-wise but I really like the new setting and story they're hinting at. Bastion didn't blow my mind quite as much as it seems to have everyone else on the internet, but this one is definitely on my radar.

Well, I never said anything about Revengeance since I haven't played it yet. But yeah, I was starting to get that you were talking about tone more than anything else. I think something can have a comedic tone but still be considered serious as a whole.
-
I wouldn't say Dr. Strangelove is not a serious film. It has strong comedic elements, but IMHO, it's more about what the movie is saying than whether or not it has jokes in it...
-
I guess it might seem that way if the underlying themes of the series go right over your head. Sure, the writing can be ham-fisted as all hell but you would have to seriously miss the point of the entire series to claim it's not serious in any way.

Looks like there's an ARG of some kind for Metal Gear Sol--, err, I mean The Phantom Pain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBo_EJ00G9A The image at the 0:40 mark Can't wait for the official unveiling later this month. I haven't been this excited about a game reveal in quite a long time. Probably because most games don't really have any build-up to it, I guess. But yeah, I think the last time I anticipated something this much was that whole countdown thing for Rising/Peace Walker back in uh, wow, 2009? edit: Looks like this might not be legit, after all. Disappointing.

Heart of the Swarm, also. At first I thought it was about on par with Wings of Liberty. Which is high praise considering I feel WoL had the greatest RTS campaign I've ever played. But now that I'm a little more than halfway through HotS, I think it's actually better than WoL.

When I first bought it, I would go for super long games. They'd take me an entire week to get through. It was awesome for about a month. But nowadays, I tend to go for shorter ones otherwise I lose interest in the late game and just feel like starting over. Last one I played, I won in a single 6-ish hours sitting.
-
Yeah, what little of it I've experienced was great. I'd love to play a long game and really dig into the espionage system.
-
I want to be excited about this but I bought Gods & Kings at launch and barely touched Civ V since then. I've been meaning to get back into it for months but I can never find the time.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA holy shit. Best. Trailer. Ever. Looks like they decided they didn't care about those who thought The Third went too over the top. Lol.

It seems everywhere I go lately I keep hearing about this new Fire Emblem game and how amazing it is. So, I got curious and watched a video review. Looks pretty damn awesome. Unfortunately, there's no way I'll be able to afford a 3DS anytime soon. So instead, I got the next best thing I could think of. 10$ on PSN. Not bad at all. Even if it turns out to only be half as good as the original, it'll still be the best 10$ I've spent on games in a while. Also, while browsing the PSP section of the store, I realized I bought both Dissidia and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions a while back. I had completely forgotten about that. Looks like my PSP is going to get some use in the near future. I can't even remember the last time I played a game from start to finish on it. I think the last one was Disgaea. And that was at least two, if not three, years ago.

Why is it stupid? Expansions require their base game because, wait for it... they expand it! Seriously, though, I always find it weird when an expansion doesn't require the base game. I get that it's to make it more accessible and I guess it makes sense for something like, say, Shogun 2 where Fall of the Samurai was a completely different setting and it's not story-based. But for something like this, it makes no sense to skip the first one. Unless you're only interested in MP, I guess. In which case, you can still buy WoL and play it online without HotS so it's kinda moot. edit: Almost forgot. Just played the first four missions. Holy crap, it's awesome! And as is usual with Blizzard, the cutscenes are absolutely fantastic.
-
It's an expansion, so yeah, you need WoL.

Yeah, I play Terran so I wasn't 100% sure what the Zerg phrase is. Damnit, GOH! I quoted you SPECIFICALLY so you wouldn't miss it! Don't you check your notifications?! But yeah, just got home. INSTALL FASTER, DAMNIT! Also, I'm confused. What's the point of still including guest passes for SC2 and WoW? Both games already have Starter Editions. Guess they must've printed a shit load of them years ago and are stiil trying to get rid of them.

If you do, just blow it off! The Swarm requires more minerals!

I don't remember Crysis 2 being that short. It was shorter than the first one but I think it lasted me something like 8-10 hours. And I'm not interested in Crysis for anything other than single-player. Was Crysis 2 mp even that popular?

I'm in the same boat. Looking at tracking, I can see my copy got home a few hours ago, but I'm stuck at school until 5h30 Really looking forward to playing the first few missions tonight.

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. Well, shit. This game is actually fucking awesome. It's much more linear and story driven than the first one (first one was slightly open in that there was some minimal exploration involved) but it's also much less repetitive and the combat is more varied. There were a few sections that made me rage pretty hard but I think my own ineptitude was at fault there rather than the game, because for the most part it's a blast. Some of the set pieces are quite memorable, including one where you basically take on an entire fleet by yourself. It actually doesn't look half bad for a PS2 game. I really dig how it looks and feels like it's taking place in the future of the Metal Gear universe. I'm pretty sure it runs on the same engine as MGS2 and the visual style and sound design are both very similar, so it's hard not to make the connection. Other than that, the story is absolute fucking nonsense. Seriously. Half the time I was just staring at the screen wondering what the fuck they were even talking about. But, unlike the first one, it's actually entertaining nonsense. The story bits in the first one were just excruciating (think the worst parts of MGS2 and multiply that by at least 11) but I actually enjoyed this one. So, yeah, I guess now all I can do is join the ranks of those desperately hoping for a third one.

This week was spy week, apparently. Watched The Bourne Legacy a few days ago and Skyfall tonight. First up, Bourne Legacy. I'm a massive fan of the Matt Damon trilogy but I really didn't have much in the way of expectations for this one. I enjoyed it as I was watching it and I still think the first half was quite solid, but once it was over I couldn't help but think "that's it?". It's an entertaining movie but I felt the second half was rather unsatisfying. The plot ends up not really going anywhere. There is a great build up but it never really pays off. As for Skyfall, holy shit is this one great. Quantum of Solace bored me to tears but I think Skyfall actually topped Casino Royale. Not much else to say. If you haven't seen it yet, get to it.

Hahaha, this is awesome. Kickstarter fatigue, my ass. If it's a game people actually want, it'll get funded. Has any kickstarter ever reached its goal this quickly? I wonder if this isn't going to break the record again. Looks like the current record holder for a videogame is Project Eternity at slightly under 4 millions (not counting Ouya since it's a console). I'm a bit broke at the moment but I'll definitely try to back this one. I missed out on Wasteland 2 so the 45$ tier is very tempting.
-
Didn't expect they'd be putting it up this soon. Aaaand it's already more than halfway to its goal. Lol. Nice.
-
Yeah, I guess. Like I said, I probably just need to get used to it. There's just something about the layout that makes it hard to think of it as just a fullscreen start menu.
-
Well, I used the start menu a lot to go where I needed to. Also had a lot of apps pinned to it that I didn't want on the taskbar. I get that the new interface is meant to replace it but I dunno. I probably just need to get used to it but so far it doesn't seem like I'd use it as much as I did the start menu. And thanks for the keyboard shortcuts. So far I had managed to find Win + i when I was looking for the control panel but that's it. I had seen the power user menu in a screenshot but couldn't figure out how to access it.
-
Well, grabbed the 15$ Win 8 upgrade promo last night and installed it just now. I'm loving the general feel of it so far, but holy shit is it weird to navigate Windows without the start menu. I might have to look into adding it in. Probably gonna try Start8. It's by Stardock and their Fences app is pretty great. Also, I was using MSE before as my anti-virus but from what I understand it doesn't work with Win 8 and it's built-in now? Anyone knows if it's any good? Should I look into getting another AV?
