  1. Yeah, I briefly tried it at launch and thought it looked terrible (I don't think I even made it to the end of the tutorial). But I still grabbed it for dirt cheap on Steam a few months ago after repeatedly hearing people comment that they actually had a lot of fun with it. I figured I'd give it a shot if I ever found myself with lots of free time and absolutely nothing to play. Then, more recently, someone on Reddit suggested that it's "best played as if it were an episode of Archer" and that sent it right to the top of my backlog. I intend to play that game as ridiculously as possible and it will be awesome.
  2. Is that the christmas carol one? If so, I just thought it was mind-numbingly boring. The Narnia one was the worst, though. Holy crap, that one fucking sucked.
  3. Man, this 3 hours long hole in my schedule is fucking killing me! Thank fucking god I thought to bring my laptop. Now to see which games this piece of crap can actually run...

Are you at school? I used to love gaps because I would just do my homework for the next class during that time.

I have six hour gaps, M-W. Sadly it isn't the other way around since my Thurs and Fridays are war zones.

@FDS: Yeah, I just now got home. I'm planning on doing work during that downtime (I have another gap just as long on tuesdays and a 2 hours one on wednesdays), but today was the first day of the semester. So I don't have anything to do yet.

@Malicious: 6 hours? Man, that's hardcore. If I had a gap that long I think I'd just take the 40mins subway ride home.

  4. Yeah, it's pretty easy to miss since it's basically a passive ability. I only found out about it recently.
  5. Only just got around to watching the christmas special. I really liked it. The last two were borderline unwatchable, so expectations were kinda low but still. Can't wait for the second half of the season!
  6. Well, if it happens half the time, you do know double tap has a 1 turn cooldown, right? You can't do it every single turn.
  7. Oh well, it's back to school tomorrow. And so ends my week of intensive gaming. In the end, I gave up on finishing Planescape: Torment. It was pretty damn good but I made some big mistakes in leveling my character early on and it made combat pretty much unmanageable in the last quarter of the game. Given more time, I probably would've started over at that point but I only had a few days left and I was actually pretty close to the end so I just lowered the difficulty (something I'd normally never do) and soldiered on. I made it to the point where all that's left to do is final preparations and on to the final dungeon/boss, but ultimately the combat is still too frustrating for me to put up with it. It's a shame as the game definitely lived up to its reputation of having amazing writing and I really want to know how it ends. I might give it another go over the summer or something. At least it wasn't all failure. I did a new normal run on XCOM and once that was done I went back to my Ironman Classic game from a few months ago and finished it. Man, I hope Firaxis announce some new DLC soon. The game is amazing but it could really use some new maps, at the very least.
  8. I've had something like that also happen to me but I'm not sure it's a bug. In my case, if my sniper can't take his second double tap action right after the first one (because he doesn't have a target), I can't reselect him once I've moved on to another unit, even if something changes to bring a target within his line of sight. I think that's how it's meant to work. Actually, looking at the wikia right now and yeah, both actions have to be taken immediately one after the other.
  9. I tried a ranked match today. I found an opponent pretty much instantaneously but I got some kind of bug where I'd move a unit once and it wouldn't let me take my second action and just automatically switched to the next unit. If I tried reselecting the frozen unit, I'd just get locked out of giving any commands for the remainder of my turn. Happened twice in the same match. Needless to say, I got my ass kicked. Not the best first impression.
  10. Nah, pretty sure it's 1v1 only. From what I understand, both players start with an equal pool of points they use to build a squad. It doesn't even have to be humans vs aliens. You can mix it up.
  11. As long as a country's panic isn't maxed out, it's fine. You can lower it by giving them a satellite (which makes it a good idea to hold off on launching satellites until right before the council report, so you can keep a country that would've otherwise dropped). There are also a few missions that will lower panic worldwide. Base management isn't too complicated. You just need to find a good balance between steady satellite production and equipment upgrades. Oh and while this thread is getting some activity, would any of you guys be up for some MP sometime? I've been meaning to try it since launch but never got around to it.
  12. Well, what difficulty are you playing on? They both unlock pretty early on and the first terror mission usually pops up in the second month or so. If you're struggling that much then you probably need to rethink your approach to combat. Might want to watch a few of these. He's playing on Ironman Impossible so he has to be much more careful and still ends up getting his ass kicked but there are some solid basic strategies to learn from watching him play.
  13. Not really. Lack of engineers is definitely a big roadblock early on. Prioritizing the missions that offer them as a reward is the way to go but you can't rely on those alone. Workshops aren't really necessary on normal difficulty, but I ended up building a couple early on just so I could get a few more satellites up in the air faster. So if you're short a few engineers you might wanna consider building one. This is especially easy to do if you pick Europe as your home base location as it makes them (as well as labs) 50% cheaper.
  14. Ah, I see. No, you misunderstood. The game clock will still advance when you scan, the "story" is what you can stall. Events like abduction/terror/UFO missions aren't story-related. You get a little cutscene on the first terror mission to show that "this is a bigger deal than regular abduction missions", but that's it. What we meant is when the game stamps a big PRIORITY OBJECTIVE on a research or construction, you can postpone doing that for however long you like. That being said, as time advances, you will start to encounter progressively stronger enemies. So upgrading your gear is still something you need to keep doing. As for how you beat them, well, don't sweat it, really. Prioritize your own survival more than anything. i.e. don't be reckless just to save a single civilian. I'm doing a normal run atm and I've had terror missions in the early game where I only saved about half of them and still got a "Good" rating. I've also put off doing the early research and construction story objectives to the point where I had endgame gear before doing the first big story mission.
  15. Seriously? ... Aliens are terrorizing a city. There are 18 civilians as well as many aliens on the map. Rescue as many civilians as possible by either walking up to them or killing all the aliens. Pretty straightforward. Also worth mentioning: unlike regular missions where you can pretty much do whatever you like if there are no active enemies, if you just sit on your ass in terror missions, the aliens are going to be murdering the civilians. Really not sure what you're trying to say here.
  16. Well, I guess I managed to somehow not screw up any of my finals. So, it looks like I'm starting my CompSci Bachelor's next week. That's pretty cool.

  17. Well, my last final of the semester was yesterday morning so now I get a whole 10 days of true vacation (had a shitload of work to do over the holidays so it really wasn't time off ). So, I'm going to try and make the most of this week and a half. First, I've been playing Rayman Origins. It's not my main focus, I just play an hour or so a day but no more. Fun game. Next, I started a new XCOM game. After a 2 months break, I felt I'd probably be too rusty to jump straight back into my ironman classic game so I just started a new one on normal (still ironman, though). That way I at least get to try out a bunch of the new Second Wave options as well as play the Slingshot missions. Finally, the big one. There's been a kind of resurgence of old-school/isometric CRPGs the past year. Baldur's Gate EE came out and the kickstarters for Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity were very successful And now there's even talk of a new Torment game. So this made me feel like it's time I finally get around to playing at least one of the classics. I picked Planescape: Torment. It's hard not to have high expectations considering it keeps being hailed as some kind of legendary RPG that supposedly has some of the best game writing ever. I'm only a few short hours into it so I'm still waiting for the plot to really get going but so far I'm enjoying the gameplay more than I expected for a game with such a dated UI. I really need to complete it before the next semester starts otherwise it's just going to sit unfinished until summer, so I'm prioritizing this one. So yeah, busy week.
  18. It's published by Capcom. That bad enough for ya?
  19. Yeah, there's a "hidden" message in the trailer. If I read it right, the open-world/february 5th stuff is about their other upcoming project, one closer to completion. The Witcher 3 sounds like a safe bet for that one.
  20. Oh God, this cannot possibly come soon enough.
  21. Yeah but a LOT of games on GMG are steam keys anyway. I'm nearing something like 20 games on GMG and every single one was a steam key. Their Capsule app is pretty shitty so I wouldn't buy from them otherwise.
  22. Yeah, the credit bonus is something they implemented when ( I assume) some publishers started not wanting the vouchers applying to their pre-orders. I don't really see it as a discount since you still pay full price for the game but still, GMG are awesome to even have something like that to make up for it.
  23. That's because vouchers aren't valid on Bioshock Infinite in NA on GMG. :/ Kinda tempted to use it on The Cave, though. Brings it down to a nice 11.25$. Problem is, it looks great but I don't remember seeing any hands-on impressions.
  24. Yeah, the combat bits really took away from what otherwise gave me a strong Mirror's Edge kinda vibe. As in, it looks fucking different, for once. Looking forward to this one.
  25. While the story might not be anything new, most of the praise I've seen wasn't about the story itself but more about how it critiques the state of modern military shooters. That in and of itself is kind of new, as far as I can tell. .I can't really remember the last game that made such a good commentary on its own genre.
