  1. What bait-and-switch thing? Basically, the game they marketed and previewed at events has absolutely fuck all to do with the game they released. The demo footage showcases a game that looks genuinely atmospheric and fun. The side-by-side comparison with the final game makes it look like either the footage was completely fake (most likely) or they removed a SHITLOAD of stuff like lighting effects and dumbed down the AI, which makes no fucking sense.
  2. Unless I'm missing something, this sounds very much like a multiplayer-only deal. Doesn't seem to be any mention of a single-player campaign. So how exactly is always-online something that could work against the game? That's pretty much a requirement for all multiplayer games.
  3. I know, I just couldn't resist. That being said, Dean is right. Gearbox's reputation is definitely going to take a major hit for this. Regardless of how much of the game was actually their work, they were the studio in charge of the project. So any screw-ups that happened on the planning or management level is entirely on them. And even though they probably had nothing to do with how PR and such was handled, that whole bait-and-switch thing with the preview demos is simply disgraceful and they can't really distance themselves from that. Also, that Inglorious Basterds-inspired shooter might not be that well-received considering it was initially a BIA game and they had to back out of that because the fans were pissed. Not exactly the greatest first impression. The game looked kinda cool, though.
  4. Man, those trailers are seriously fucking awesome. I really wish that was a real documentary
  5. Word is Harrison Ford has been signed and will return as Han Solo in the new Star Wars. Okay, now I'm a little excited.

Yeah, I vaguely heard about that... Is it actually as stupid as it sounds?

He throws Anakin Solo onto the Falcon and the ship escapes as the moon falls on him.

I believe they already confirmed that the EU will not be in this story line. That was one of the first things they said to destroy all hopes of the EU being significant anymore.

  6. Man, those Aliens: Colonial Marines reviews are downright brutal. How the hell can a studio manage to be so hit-and-miss?

Well as the joke goes "Timmy I don't understand how one person can be so bad at their homework" "Oh it wasn't one person, my dad helped.". 4 studios worked on A:CM :/

Really? I knew it had been in development for a really long time but I thought it was made by Gearbox alone. Guess that kind of makes more sense if there was a lack of a unified vision.

  7. A Batman game not made by Rocksteady? I must've missed that part... Anyway, I'm with Hot Heart. Having replayed both last year, I feel ACII is the more cohesive game. Brotherhood improved in a lot of areas, but I think overall it made some of the series' major flaws a lot more apparent.
  8. Then play them a bit less Personally, the campaign is what I'm most looking forward to anyway, so I don't see myself playing too much beyond a few games to try out the new units (most likely against the AI, if possible).
  9. I just realized this is coming out in only a month and I still hadn't pre-ordered. edit: Oh and almost forgot but I grabbed this last night. It was the daily deal on Steam but for some reason it wasn't showing up on the main page. Almost missed it. I've been intrigued for a while but I was waiting for a price drop since 20$ seemed a bit steep.
  10. Well, logged into my battle.net account earlier and I guess either the HotS beta is now open to everyone or I got lucky because there it was. So, you guys might want to check your accounts just in case.
  11. Recently rewatched Drive with a friend of mine who still hadn't seen it. I actually enjoyed it even more than I did the first time, somehow. Anyway, made me realize I still hadn't seen Bronson, by the same director. That was a weird one. Really liked it, though. Has kind of a Clockwork Orange-ish vibe to it. I'll have to watch Valhalla Rising soon.
  12. First Wasteland 2 gameplay footage, as far as I'm aware. Looking pretty good. http://vimeo.com/59292662

FFFUUU. I'd started watching it other day but stuff cropped up. Was gonna watch it later today. But yeah http://vimeo.com/blog/post:140 http://gamedesignreviews.com/scrapbook/how-vimeo-lost-me/ Vimeo and games aren't much of a match made in heaven.

Well it's on youtube now so you can still watch it.

  14. Yeah, the tank mission is when I was finally forced to realize you could save mid-mission. I abused the hell outta that and even then it was quite the challenge. Once you get past it, though, the rest of the game is incredibly worth it. Also, if you're stuck and need to grind, a high level scout will turn most skirmishes into a fucking joke. On some maps, you can literally make it to the flag on the first turn.
  15. I feel exactly the same way. I haven't tried Path of Exile yet (I have installed it, though) but I think it's stupid to even try to compare Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2. They have such different design philosophies that everyone is bound to prefer one over the other with neither side being able to objectively claim which one is better. Torchlight 2 was great and I can certainly appreciate how its skill system is more permanent and varied, but I personally found Diablo 3 to be the more fun game of the two. The higher production values and overall presentation had a lot to do with it and Torchlight II just couldn't compete in that department. Torchlight II's complete lack of story made the experience a bit less interesting for me once the novelty wore off (about halfway through Act II). So I'm looking forward to trying PoE but I'm not letting my expectations grow out of control like I did with Torchlight II. I'd be just setting myself up to be disappointed again.
  16. I've only been able to play something like two hours but so far I'm really loving it. It's kinda hard to describe without getting too specific and I think it's best to go in blind on this one. It's very weird and unique but in a way that's consistent. It forces you to think in ways games rarely do but it never breaks its own logic, so it doesn't feel forced or weird just for the sake of being a mindfuck and the things you learn about the game's logic usually come back into play later. It doesn't do a lot of handholding, either. There are vague hints all over the place but early on you can reach an area and not realize you can't progress because you can't yet understand what's blocking your way and why. The game is also semi-free roam. The actual level design is fairly linear but there are multiple paths you can explore. Kinda feels like a metroidvania game now that I think about it. Backtracking isn't an issue, though, because there's a main room you can go back to anytime and from which you can return to any area you've already discovered. That can lead to a lot of aimless wandering if you get stuck and can't figure out where you should go next, though. So if you have little patience for puzzle games, keep that in mind.
  17. Bit late to the party but I finally signed up for Dropbox. Really handy to keep my stuff synched between my desktop and laptop while I'm at school. Sooo, if you're able to (i.e. don't already have an account), I'd appreciate it a lot if you guys used my referral link so I can get moar space! http://db.tt/y4RMkgE0 I tried using my various emails to make dummy accounts but after setting one up on my mom's PC, I ran out of new systems and the invites became inelligible...

Certain Samsung phones can net you a massive increase in space. I got too much space to the point that I might put some shows or something on there.

You can create a VM and then create fake email accounts and follow the referral instructions until install to get free space. You have to reinstall windows on a new VM for each referral but if you really need the space... well... that's what I did. Of course, there's still a risk of them taking away that space, even if they already gave it to you.

Also, camera upload trick, get about 500 mb worth of pictures, transfer to your phone (camera roll, wherever android puts it), and let dropbox upload it. Delete the photos from the camera upload folder, move to phone, do it again.

  18. Seems a tad overpriced (was hoping for 10$, though the current 25% off certainly helps), but I was too curious not to get it.
  19. Man, every new piece of info that comes out makes Blacklist sound more and more awesome each time. Then, without fail, I remember the voice thing and get annoyed. :(

Wish I was that strong. But this is Splinter Cell we're talking about. I'll very likely be pre-ordering it as soon as it pops up on Steam. :/

  20. Exactly. For me to put up with always-on DRM, I need to not be afraid that the servers are going to shut down in a few short years. For example, I'm not the least bit worried about Blizzard pulling the plug on Diablo III. But EA have a history for pulling this kind of crap.
  21. Finally decided to give Alpha Protocol another shot. Just finished the Saudi Arabia part. At first, it seemed to be as big a piece of crap as I remembered it to be. Shitty animations, controls feeling a bit off and just overall really rough around the edges. But I kept at it and fuck me, it actually is kind of fun once you can get past the lack of polish. It's still a far cry from the game I originally expected (basically, Mass Effect: Spy Edition) and it can be a bit frustrating to play when my regular instincts kick in and I try to play perfectly stealthy, but when I just roll with it and try not to play optimally, I'm enjoying it a lot.
  22. That makes three of us. Don't know what Dean is smoking but I am definitely getting HotS day 1.
  23. Yeah, and isn't the whole point of Saints Row to be like, the anti-GTA or something along those lines?
  24. I know, right? I must've spent at least twenty minutes just in the first beach area trying to cut every to pieces. A surprisingly large amount of it was destroyable.
