  1. Yeah, seems like a really low price if it's actually included. I honestly expected the deluxe edition to cost about this much without it.
  2. Got sick of waiting for Steam pre-orders to be up and came across this on Amazon.com 65$ for the digital deluxe edition and, according to the description, it's a Steam key AND it includes the season pass. Sounds way too good to be true but I didn't want to risk waiting in case it was just a pricing error. Also, looks like they wait until release to charge you, so I can still cancel anytime if something changes.
  3. I'm currently playing through Dishonored as well and I am loving the hell out of it. The opening level didn't make much of an impression, but as soon as I started the first proper mission and started exploring, man I got really excited. This is a game I've been waiting a really long time to play. This is basically Thief in all but name. Combat is a much more viable option in Dishonored, obviously. And some of those kill animations are just glorious. But the satisfaction that comes from sneaking around on rootfops, pickpocketing people's keys and coin, breaking into people's houses and emptying their safes, no kill will ever be more satisfying than that to me. Earlier tonight, I was eavesdropping on two dudes. Then their conversation ended and they went their separate ways. I slowed down time, blinked behind one of them, snatched his house key and blinked right back to my hiding spot without being caught. How fucking awesome is that?!!?! Also, on the first mission I was kind of stuck trying to find the combination to some guy's safe. I figured it would be like most games and the game would just tell me once I got it. Turns out I already had it from reading through the guy's notes, the game just didn't point it out to me. There are strong hints in your mission clues journal but you actually have to do some investigating for yourself. I fucking love it. If it wasn't for XCOM having managed to suck around 80 hours out of me in less than three weeks, I'd already be calling Dishonored my favorite game of 2012.
  4. I'm canadian and even I don't know what the hell that means.
  5. Ended up with a bit more extra cash than anticipated for the month, so I grabbed this on GMG. 35$ using the current voucher and my store credit. Played the first hour or so tonight but I don't think I'll be able to really dig into it until next week. Got a midterm to prepare for so I'll be spending most of the weekend solving math problems.
  6. Been meaning to get it since it came out. The soundtrack edition was less than a dollar more because of the current sale, so I went for it. Other than that, there's not a whole lot that interests me in the Steam Halloween sale. I'll probably get Condemned: Criminal Origins now that it's available on Steam since I've wanted to play that one for years, but that's about it.
  7. Yeah, it's very possible to bypass regional restriction for digital games on Amazon. I bought the Bioshock/Spec Ops bundle a couple months back. If I remember correctly, the trick is to put your real address for billing but a US address for shipping. I used a website where you log in through paypal and it provides you one. Normally your package gets sent there and they forward it to you, but since it's digital you just use the address and that's it. edit: here's the website http://www.hopshopgo.com edit2: Holy shit, this game is awesome.
  8. The new Indie Royale Halloween bundle. Man, feels like the last one was only about a week ago... Anyway, this one packs amazing value simply because it has the third season of the Sam & Max series, The Devil's Playhouse. I've also been interested in Home but other than that I'm not too familiar with the other titles. I'm pretty sure I saw Evilquest on Steam Greenlight, though.
  9. Got the answer to my application for the comp sci program today. And as long as I don't fail the prerequisite classes I'm currently taking AND can maintain a GPA that's equal or above the group average, I'm in! Goddamn, that is a weight off my shoulders. Now I just gotta make sure not to screw up on any of the 5 exams I have over the next few weeks.

Ah cool. The comp sci course I'm doing has a common first year and branches into systems management, software development and IT support in the second year, with most of those have the option for further years. I'm taken the Software Development honours path which is 4 years, and might return after a year of working to get my masters.

Nice. Most of the options I mentioned have a common first year as well, but beyond that it's mostly about how fast you wanna get through the rest of it.

My university's CS department is very oriented on research, so the curriculum kinda reflects that. But, normally, you've done all your mandatory classes by the end of the second year and for the last two semesters you pick your classes from a long list of options. So at that point you can focus on whatever the hell you...

  10. The Darkness II. A bit on the short side but I really enjoyed it. Also, I thought it looked pretty great. The cell-shaded/comic book-style aesthetics were a much better fit for it than the original's more photo-realistic approach. It was kind of an impulse purchase but I'm really glad I got it. Hopefully they'll make a third one. In the meantime, I think I just might try and hunt down a used copy of the original so I can finally beat it.
  11. I've been hesitant to get it since I never finished the first one, but it's currently 75% off on GMG, bringing it down to 7,49$. Which I then knocked another 20% off of using the current voucher. So, yeah, 6 bucks. I was tempted to just use the 10$ credit I got from my XCOM pre-order but I think I'll just keep that for when I want to buy something more expensive.
  12. Yeah, I find that it really depends on the game. Some games I'll get stuck and ragequit fairly quickly while others I'll just keep retrying indefinitely without getting frustrated (the Splinter Cell series being a good example of the latter). Likewise, lately I'm having a blast playing XCOM on Ironman classic and desperately trying not to get massacred. But getting crushed in StarCraft II before I can manage to build a decent army makes me want to hurl my monitor across the room.
  13. So, I found out last night that Muse's sixth album came out a few weeks ago. I knew it was coming but it sort of got off my radar, I guess. Downloaded it last night and listened to it on my way to class this morning. I'm not the kind to turn on a band at the slightest sign of a change in style so I'll give it a few more listens before forming a final opinion, but I have to say I'm a bit confused as to why they felt the need to go dubstep on some tracks. :/ The sound that I like them for is still there, they just added added some wub-wub to it and I'm not sure why.
  14. Same for me only replace Oil Rush with To The Moon. I've also been interested in the Blackwell games for some time but the 4th one isn't exactly the best entry point into the series. Still kicking myself for not getting the Indie Royale that had the first three in it.
  15. Yeah, I played something like 20+ hours of Oblivion on PS3 when I first got the system and nothing ever broke. Well, except for the leveling system, but that's just how the game is.
  16. Yeah, the game has cheated on me once before. In my current Ironman normal game, during a terror mission, I sent one of my guys in the next room to save a civilian and brought him right back into cover because there were enemies there. Next alien turn, couple of mutons and a berzerker spawn right in the area my guy had just crossed. They're right on top of me and just destroy my squad. At that point I said "fuck this shit!", ctrl+alt+del'd and killed the task before the alien turn finished. When I reloaded, I backed the fuck away from that room.
  17. Not only that but there's also all that cliché crap about the Roswell crash and Area 51. Oh man, I love that movie so much. I was so glad when Roland Emmerich starting talking about sequels again last year. Really hope something comes of it this time. Actually, if he ends up making the sequels to ID4 and Stargate, my life will be complete.
  18. While XCOM doesn't really strike me as something that's begging for a movie adaptation, I get what you mean. I used to be really into X-Files as a kid and, even though it's insultingly stupid, I'm a big fan of Independence Day
  19. I usually only launched mine when I needed to lower panic levels but that's mostly because I kept forgetting to build uplinks so I launched most of them much later than I should've. The income boost was pretty helpful once I got a few of them up, though. Also, started my second campaign just now. Ironman Classic. Entire team got obliterated on the first fucking mission.
  20. So, I finished my first run. Pretty much every single second of free time I've had the past four days has been dedicated to this game. 26 hours total and I'm already thinking about my next run. Definitely going to be playing on Ironman next because, as the game progressed, I realized I'm a very weak man and I found myself reloading more than I would've liked. I didn't necessarily reload every time someone died but there were a few times where if I hadn't reloaded then I would've been royally screwed. Like losing my main sniper when half my squad is rookies because my main line-up is injured. Or just rushing in like an idiot and getting 2 of my best guys brutally torn to pieces by Chryssalids. I think the problem is early on I focused too much on the same soldiers and ended up maxing them out quickly while all my other units were underpowered. Next time, I'll try having a more rotating line-up early on. I'm not sure if I wanna jump to classic difficulty yet, though.
  21. Well, I just beat XCOM on normal difficulty and holy shit is this game fucking fantastic. By far the best game I've played this year. Actually, the last game I enjoyed anywhere near as much was Deus Ex: Human Revolution and, considering I'm a complete fanatic of the original Deus Ex, that's fairly high praise for XCOM.
  22. Yeah, I got lucky and realized my lack of satellites was a problem just in time. Launching a few more of them both solved my money problems and prevented a bunch of countries from dropping out. Things aren't looking as grim right now. I did lose Mexico and France, though. Any idea how many it takes for the game to end?
  23. I try to avoid reloading because, knowing myself, at some point I'll just get bored from the lack of consequences if I just reload my way out of every mistake I make. The only times I reloaded so far were when I wanted to try something I knew was probably stupid. I'm playing on normal mode for this first run while I'm learning everything, but after this playthrough I'm planning on switching to iron man mode (game autosaves, so no reloading). Might even switch to classic difficulty because so far I'm finding the game fairly easy. That being said, I did lose two men tonight. Neither were high-ranked, though, so no big loss.
  24. You're a terrible commander, Spork! I've yet to lose a single soldier. They do tend to get injured a lot, though... Like, half the squad out of action after every single mission. Also, I can't progress through the plot because I'm a bit short on resources and a bunch of countries look like they're about to leave the council Oops. I get the feeling I'll have to start over because this run seems doomed to fail.
  25. Well, had to pry myself away from it at 2AM last night but this morning I somehow woke up an hour ahead of my alarm and instead of just going back to sleep I jumped at the chance to get up early and play some more Been a while since any game actually got me to turn down more sleep. And Ethan, the game hardly punishes you. There are simply consequences to failure. You can always "cheat" by saving and reloading but losing soldiers is part of the thrill. The last mission I played about 20mins ago ended with one of my soldiers getting shot down and starting to bleed out. I didn't have any medkits to stabilize her so the mission became a race against the clock to kill all the remaining enemies before she bled out (something like 3 turns). I was successful on the very last turn but now she's out of action for a while. It was awesome.
