  1. I try to avoid reloading because, knowing myself, at some point I'll just get bored from the lack of consequences if I just reload my way out of every mistake I make. The only times I reloaded so far were when I wanted to try something I knew was probably stupid. I'm playing on normal mode for this first run while I'm learning everything, but after this playthrough I'm planning on switching to iron man mode (game autosaves, so no reloading). Might even switch to classic difficulty because so far I'm finding the game fairly easy. That being said, I did lose two men tonight. Neither were high-ranked, though, so no big loss.
  2. You're a terrible commander, Spork! I've yet to lose a single soldier. They do tend to get injured a lot, though... Like, half the squad out of action after every single mission. Also, I can't progress through the plot because I'm a bit short on resources and a bunch of countries look like they're about to leave the council Oops. I get the feeling I'll have to start over because this run seems doomed to fail.
  3. Well, had to pry myself away from it at 2AM last night but this morning I somehow woke up an hour ahead of my alarm and instead of just going back to sleep I jumped at the chance to get up early and play some more Been a while since any game actually got me to turn down more sleep. And Ethan, the game hardly punishes you. There are simply consequences to failure. You can always "cheat" by saving and reloading but losing soldiers is part of the thrill. The last mission I played about 20mins ago ended with one of my soldiers getting shot down and starting to bleed out. I didn't have any medkits to stabilize her so the mission became a race against the clock to kill all the remaining enemies before she bled out (something like 3 turns). I was successful on the very last turn but now she's out of action for a while. It was awesome.
  4. Well shit, turns out XCOM unlocks at 1AM tonight. I have classes all day tomorrow but my first one is only at 1PM. I'm sure there's a way to make this work that's not entirely irresponsible...

I hate you, Spork. But I like the way Ethan thinks.

Unfortunately, that's not an option. :(

Yeah, I get out of class at 8:30, short bus ride home, then nothing but Xcom.

I was originally planning on not touching it until wednesday since I'm busy all day tomorrow and only got one morning class on wednesday.

But because of the way the Steam timers update, it's now looking like the game might unlock at midnight, after all. If that's the case, then I should be able to play for a couple of hours before bed :)

  5. Well, this morning I filled out the application to transfer to my uni's computer science department next semester. I spent more or less the last two years working towards this and I have no idea what I'll do if I don't get in. So, yeah... I expect the next few weeks are going to be slightly stressful. :/

      Thanks.

At this point, mostly general Comp Sci. My first choice is the standard BSc.

  6. The bits where you see what happened to Altaĩr after AC1 are pretty good, too. They're mostly relegated to being a side-quest (think the Assassin Tombs from AC2 or the Romulus Lairs from ACB) but they were the most interesting part of ACR for me. The Desmond stuff is mostly about his past. I enjoyed it because I'm really into the AC lore but it's not really important to the overall story. The gameplay in those sections is horrible, though.
  7. Oooh, looks like they kept the ziplines. Nice. That was the one really great thing Revelations added. Hopefully that wasn't just a cutscene bit.
  8. I'm mostly interested in the single-player stuff as well, but I really like the AC multiplayer and always ended up regretting not playing more of it before it died. So getting a season pass just might force me to do just that.
  9. Did you read the article I linked? There's a single-player DLC campaign spread across three episodes.
  10. Well, this sounds kind of awesome. http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/03/assassins-creed-3-dlc-tells-the-alternate-history-of-king-wash/ I think I just might get the season pass.
  11. Hahaha, damn. I'd figured the pearls were shopped but I was under the impression the colors were originally there and that they'd changed it. It sort of can't be unseen, though. So I clearly see it even in the orange version now.
  12. Yeah, I can imagine it working great with 4 and 5 because of the stop and shoot controls. But with how fast the characters move in 6, it would just be a huge clusterfuck.
  13. At least it's not as blatant as the london olympics' "Lisa blowing Bart" logo. I refuse to believe that one wasn't intentional. I mean look at it!
  14. Kicked myself for not getting it when it was this cheap during the summer sale so I jumped on it this time. Also grabbed this a few days ago I never got around to buying the PSP version and this includes some of the extras from the XBLA release, so it was a no-brainer.
  15. Well... shit. Those five episodes went by way too fast I'll miss the Ponds.
  16. Beat Assassin's Creed Brotherhood a couple of days ago but only got around to playing the Da Vinci Disappearance DLC today. It was much better than I expected. The DLC sequences in AC2 were kind of all over the place and killed the pacing of the game so it's not like the bar was very high to begin with. But yeah, unless Steam puts Revelations on sale in the near future, I'm pretty much done "preparing" for ACIII.
  17. Decided I might as well get it right away since it also came down to 36$ using a voucher on GMG. Two triple-A pre-orders for just a little over 70$. That's one way of competing with Steam Hard to argue with those prices. And that should be all the big game purchases I make until Assassin's Creed III. I'll probably get the Zone of the Enders HD Collection at the end of october but other than that there's nothing else on my radar.
  18. Hahaha, no. I actually really love Civ V. I meant crap in the sense that it would be pointless since I already own the game so I'd just get an extra copy sitting in my inventory. edit: also, forgot to post it but I grabbed this a few days ago. Had some troubles getting used to the controls at first but I'm starting to really love it.
  19. 36$ with Green Man Gaming's trade-in discount. I'm missing out on the TF2 items and potential free Civ V by not getting it directly from Steam but that's all crap I'll end up trying to trade away anyway so I might as well save the 15$ right now.
  20. 4 more games added to Beat the Average. I already own 3 of them since they were included in previous bundles but it's still not bad at all. The new one is Wizorb, which actually looks kinda cool.
  21. Well, finally got around to giving the RE6 demo a shot just now and.... ugh. I guess I shouldn't be mad at Capcom, they're saving me 60 bucks after all. I liked RE5 despite its flaws but what I've just played wasn't disappointing, it was downright bad. They've obviously dropped all pretense of being a horror game. I mean, even Leon's supposed "traditional" campaign felt like a clumsy action title. And then the Chris level was just plain stupid. I guess Capcom just don't know how to make these games anymore... Between this and the new Splinter Cell replacing Michael Ironside... it's getting kinda disheartening to see some of my favorite series from my teenage years just start turning to crap.
  22. I only got to play the beta briefly, not enough for it to make any kind of impression. You're probably not wrong about the anti-D3 sentiments but I've also seen a lot of hyperbole about how much better Torchlight 2 would be. I wouldn't go so far as to say the game disappointed me, though. I just let my expectations get a bit too high, I guess. You pretty much summed it up perfectly: good game, but not revolutionary in the least. For the entire first act I felt like it was much better than Diablo 3 but about halfway through Act 2 the novelty kinda wore off and I realized it's pointless to even try and compare the two. They're just designed too differently. In some areas, I prefer how Torchlight 2 does things and in others I prefer how Diablo 3 does it.
  23. Just beat Torchlight II. It's a massive improvement over the original in every conceivable way and at only 20$ it's probably the best value I've had for a game this year (especially considering I traded a CS:GO beta invite for it and didn't have to pay ). That being said, there was a massive amount of hype built up for it (especially after Diablo 3 came out and lots of people were unhappy with it) and I feel it didn't really live up to it. I'll probably elaborate on my thoughts in the Torchlight thread later.
  24. I was already planning on buying XCOM: Enemy Unknown but man that demo was awesome. Can't wait to play the full game.

  25. What's coming across as entitled is that everyone got the game at the same time, yet you argued that you should have gotten it earlier. Anyway, about 3 hours in. It is fucking incredible. I'm one of those who actually really liked Diablo 3 but man, Torchlight II really blows it right the fuck out of the water.
