  1. Damn! Vanquish arrived yesterday and Nier arrived today. That's uncharacteristically fast for amazon marketplace sellers!

Get on that NieR right this instant, young man.

  2. Puzzle Agent. For a Professor Layton rip-off, it's surprisingly underwhelming.
  3. Watched the first Starship Troopers with a friend the other night. Had been a solid 10 years since I'd last seen it. I used to like it a lot when I was younger, but holy shit this was a fucking blast to rewatch. Haven't laughed that hard in a while. Most of the satire went right over my head as a kid, so it felt like a completely different movie. Also watched REC2. I really loved the spanish original, so I'd actually been looking forward to seeing it. Just kinda forgot about it for a while. It's sadly not as great as the original, but still worth a look if you like found footage films. Personally, the movie sort of lost me early on when they reveal that
  4. Eh..... Quebec. Not sure what the actual time zone name is. But if I remember correctly, you're like, on the opposite end of Canada, right? So we probably have like a 4 hours gap or something. I actually started PW earlier and halfway through the tutorial turned it off because I felt a sudden urge to play MGS4 instead But considering the portable/pick-up-and-play nature of Peace Walker, I think I'll start it anyway and play them both at the same time instead of waiting until I finish MGS4.
  5. Well, I'm done with school until january, so at least I have the free time to sink into it. Remains to be seen if I get into it enough to do so. Think I'll give it a shot tonight, actually.
  6. Ha, PO is the one I quit halfway through on PSP. I've been meaning to get back to it, though.
  7. Well I just finished MGS3. Still as awesome as I remembered. Now I'm not sure how I should proceed, though. MGS4 or jump right into Peace Walker. I mean, I've been playing them in order of release, so MGS4 should comes first. But I'm thinking PW's PSP graphics might be a bit harder to overlook if I play it right after an amazing looking game like MGS4. In comparison, coming from MGS3's PS2 graphics probably won't be that huge of a gap.
  8. So, it seems Alan Wake is finally coming to PC. Part of me wants to say too little, too late. And I'm certainly not as excited for it as I was a year ago. But mostly I'm just glad I'll finally get to play it. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-12-14-alan-wake-pc-confirmed

It's not the same, Duke. But no, I'm not even going to bother with the game for now.

I'm with CyberRat here. I have no desire to even pirate it.

I'm slightly interested, will probably pick it up for $5 on a Steam sale sometime.

And Duke, there's a difference between someone pirating a game they could buy but don't want to, and someone pirating a game because it is not available legally in their region.

  9. And once again, thanks to my complete beard-trimming ineptitude, I ruin a perfectly good 5 months beard! >:( I seriously need to get better at this. Or just go to the fucking barber...

Haha... I've never seen that ad, but I'm sure I'm not even in the first 1000 to compare the two.

  10. It's possible with Indie Royale since each game has its own separate key. Anyway, grabbed it as well. Paid 6$, split equally between the 3 options. This one has a pretty damn good line-up. I already own Super Meat Boy, but Cave Story, Jamestown and Shank are all games I wanted to try but was hesitant to take the plunge on.
  11. Wow, I somehow totally missed all the new posts when I posted that this morning. I probably shouldn't post before I've had my morning coffee...
  12. Take this with a grain of salt, but apparently people poking around the steam registry found what might be the content of the Humble Indie Bundle 4. Could easily be a load of crap, but if true I have to say that's a pretty damn good line-up. http://www.diygamer.com/2011/12/humble-bundle-bundles-leak/
  13. 10$ on PSN. Seemed pretty cool and my PSP hasn't been getting enough love lately. People here keep giving it very high praise, so I decided it's time I give it a shot. And once again, because I posted it in the wrong thread like an idiot
  14. I'm absolutely delighted to see Naughty Dog doing something new. Uncharted is awesome, but Drake's Deception definitely felt less special and I didn't really want them to squeeze another one out the door in another two years. As for the game itself, I'm intrigued. There really isn't much more to say about it at this point.
  15. While not formally announced, it's been known for a while that Ubisoft Toronto are working on a follow-up to Conviction, presumably with the same type of faster gameplay. There's also Thief 4, which I have high hopes for considering the amazing job Eidos Montreal did with Human Revolution.
  16. Well, I think I've found my 2011 GOTY. And I don't even need to play it. It gets real good around 0:35

  17. Holy crap, I totally posted this in the wrong thread. I didn't beat it, I just ordered it from amazon lol
  18. All this talk about Revengeance and Platinum Games made me remember I still haven't played this. It's been 20 bucks for long enough that I don't think it's going to go down any more than that, so yeah, time to buy.
  19. Hahahaha, I LOVE that song. That episode was pure genius.
  20. Yeah, kinda feels like they'll do something utterly retarded. Like Rose and the kid getting killed and Raiden going psycho over it. Which could actually make for a pretty crazy and silly fun game. Just very weird for Metal Gear.
  21. Yeah, the Bioware name really seems like it's unnecessarily being slapped on way too many things now. I have no problem with a studio falling under the Bioware umbrella making a RTS game because I realize it's not like it's the Mass Effect team suddenly making a C&C game. Also, according to an interview on IGN, Victory actually have staff that have worked on the C&C series before. But you have to wonder why the hell they even renamed them to Bioware in the first place. I mean, I get that there's a certain pedigree behind the name (which has arguably been kind of diminishing rapidly these past couple of years). And it actually makes sense when it comes to something RPG-related, like the studio working on The Old Republic. But here, I don't know, maybe like Dean said they're simply trying to cash in on brand recognition. Just seems kinda stupid, to be honest.
  22. Yeah, okay. That makes sense, I guess. Also, I was writing something about how the story is an important aspect of MGS, but then SixTwo chimed in with how KojiPro is handling writing and story. So yeah, that's cool. I'm still worried about the tone, but really, it's way too early to say for sure. I guess the only thing that still really bothers me is that it's set after MGS4. And it's been almost 4 years, so this is all the spoiler warning I'm going to give. The ending of MGS4 really implied that Raiden was done with all the fighting and going to live a happy, quiet life with Rose and his son. So they better have a damn good reason for why he'd get re-cyborg'd. I mean, I'm sure they'll come up with a plausible excuse, but it just seems like it's undoing how nicely MGS4 wrapped up his story.
  23. Where have you heard it's not canon? It would seem like a weird thing to say this early on. "We're making this new Metal Gear game, but it's totally irrelevant to the story you all like!" lol But anyway, just to be clear, I'm not taking issues with the game or angry about it or anything. I just feel like it's an extremely weird direction to take for the series. Not really sold on it, but I'm open to the game still being fun. And the original concept for Rising never really gave me the impression it was going to be about stealth all that much. I don't think the game genre ever really changed. It's mostly the switch in tone that bugs me. MGSR seemed like it was going to be playing it straight like most of the Metal Gear games do.
  24. That's really not a valid comparison. Final Fantasy is a series made up of completely unrelated games all taking place in different kinds of worlds. You can really do whatever the hell you want, slap the FF name on it and it doesn't mean anything. The Metal Gear series, on the other hand, has mostly been adhering to one world and one timeline. Sure, there's occasional side game like Ghost Babel or the Acid titles that doesn't really fit into the canon, but Rising is obviously more high profile than those ever were. Like SixTwo said, there's no doubt that Platinum makes amazing action games and I'm sure this will be no different. Their style just doesn't seem like a good fit for the tone of the Metal Gear series.
  25. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. What. The. Hell. Platinum Games are cool, but holy crap, that's some of the dumbest shit I've seen all year. That does NOT look like Metal Gear. :/

It seems to me they've explained their concerns pretty well, ones that I share. The game doesn't look bad, but the MASSIVE changes they've made clearly don't fit the Metal Gear universe in the slightest.

    3. toxicitizen

      toxicitizen

Exactly. Also, it seems they've changed the story and it now takes place years after MGS4. I get why a new dev brought on board might want to do that and how it would give them more freedom to do their thing. But it doesn't make much sense when you take into account how MGS4 ended...

      FMW

Does a Platinum Games combat fest not suit the world of Metal Gear, or does it not fit Solid Snake? I've only seen the MGS 4 Raiden trailer, but it seems like this gameplay fits in with that movie extremely well.
