  1. I feel very much the same way. I wouldn't hesistate to recommend it to a fan of the series. It's a great game very much worth playing. That being said, the problems with a yearly dev cycle are really more apparent in this one, so criticism is inevitable. The way I see it, this was the last game like this I was willing to play. If ACIII is another one like this (as in the same goddamned thing with only superficial improvements), then I certainly won't be getting it at launch/full price.
  2. Agreed with pretty much all of this. Except for the bombs. They might not have felt necessary, but some of them were pretty damn useful. Mostly the smoke and shrapnel types.
  3. Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant by "directs his games like they're movies". But that's a better way to put it. I started disc 2 last night and saved right as I was about to enter the room where REX is. Seemed like a good place to stop. I was also kinda drunk and it was past 4 AM I don't have as much time to play as I'd like since I have less than 2 weeks to prepare for a math final and have a shitload of subject to cover since I'm quite a few weeks behind. But hopefully I'll be able to finish it tonight and get started on MGS2
  4. Brink is 5$ on Steam. Does anyone here own it? I'm curious, but since the game bombed pretty hard, I would expect it to be pretty dead after all this time. Plus, I think it was kinda broken at some point ? Was it ever fixed and, more importantly, did all the steam sales and free week-ends manage to keep it alive ?

Didn't it get some big patch a while back to address a lot of the complaints?

@Dean But only for this weekend.

  5. How did you guys get in? I imagine it's too late now
  6. I feel MGS1 has the best story while MGS3 is my favorite overall (story is almost as good, gameplay is perfect). But I'm also a big fan of MGS2. It doesn't deserve all the hate it gets. And yeah, I can't think of any big games prior to MGS1 that were as heavily cinematic. I mean, there were games with cutscenes, but Kojima directs his games like they're movies, so the feel is very different.
  7. Bought these yesterday. Split/Second is only 10$ for PS+ subscribers. I hesitated for a few days considering I very recently bought both NFS Hot Pursuit and NFS Shift. But I've wanted it for a long time now and figured it's unlikely I'm ever going to find it for less than that on PS3. Actually, now that I think about it, Split Second is the reason for my current interest in racing games. When the demo first came out, well, I don't think I've ever played and replayed any other game demo that many times, which was kinda weird considering at the time I wasn't into racing games at all. There was just something about the game's insane, Michael Bay-esque action style that resonated with me. Was broke at the time, though. And whenever I checked afterwards, I never felt the price had dropped enough. Until now!
  8. Uh, what the hell just happened? TotalBiscuit's series on Terraria got me interested in the game, and since it's only 2,50$ atm, I bought it. Start playing and decide to look for iron to make a better pickaxe. Next thing I know, I get my iron pickaxe and realize I've been mining for two freaking hours!!

It's worth it, especially for multi-player.

Just bought the four-pack, gifted two to a couple of friends, thinking about giving the fourth copy to my wife.

  10. So last night I was messing around on the PS3 checking the new store content and decided to fire up MGS 1. Keep in mind, when it came out on PSN I immediately bought it but could never play it all the way through. I tried countless times to play it on my PSP but would get bored rather quickly because I've played it so many times that I remembered everything about it and was pretty much just going through the motions. But last night something different happened. I realized it as soon as the first codec call. You know the one. This starts playing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SR5CJkbg7I immediately followed by "This is Snake." For some reason, those two things combined have always felt extremely iconic to me. And last night, the very second I heard them, I just knew. It's been long enough since I've last played the game that it's become awesome again. I played up until after the fight against Ocelot but had to go to bed. Just came back from class and now I'm ready to jump right back in! .... right after I do a few hours of math.
  11. The only one I've never played is Peace Walker, because I figured I wasn't using my PSP often enough to justify buying a 40-50$ game for it. I played MGS 1 through 3 like half a dozen times each. MGS 4 only twice, though. So it's not like I don't know the story already. It has occured to me that the narrative would not work as well that way. But I figured it might make replaying them a slightly different experience. I'm still not sure if I'll do it or not. Playing them in release order would mean keeping the only new experience (Peace Walker) for last. And that doesn't sound like a bad idea either.
  12. Holy crap! Amazon.ca have been surprisingly fast! I ordered the game yesterday around like 4PM and I got it this morning O_O Guess the warehouse/shipping is still running on black friday speed. Of course, today is the day I decided I could no longer procrastinate and needed to get cracking on preparing for finals, so yeah (I am taking a break to post this after doing only 20mins of math. I don't think I'm doing a great job so far!) Also, I was expecting to get the game only next week, or like... friday. So I figured I had time to replay MGS 1. Now I'm wondering if I should even bother... Maybe I should play them chronologically MGS 3 -> Peace Walker -> MGS -> MGS 2 -> MGS 4. That could be kind of awesome, actually. And keep me busy until christmas Technically, I guess Portable Ops should be between MGS 3 and PW and I still have my PSP copy... but meh, I could never get into it that much. And the recruiting mechanic in it is downright painful. No, I do not want to drag this unconscious enemy back to the start of the freaking map, no matter how small it is! And I sure as shit don't want to repeat it 5 fucking times!
  13. Yeah, the quotation marks kinda gave me the feeling you were making a joke, but I wasn't entirely sure... Didn't see any harm in commenting, either way. As for turning it off, I don't remember there being an option specific to that, but it's very likely I just missed it. Didn't really bother turning things off as the glow thing didn't bother me that much. But yeah, I guess there's no way he could've missed it unless the option was there and he had turned it off.. Blame it on me posting that soon after waking up and my brain not being entirely booted up yet.
  14. "That's the game's fault for not making it obvious." It's pops up on screen every time you approach an enemy. How much more obvious could it be? And how could you miss that, P4?
  15. That's not older than my dog! My dog is awesome. B) Hell, all dogs are awesome. .... But uh, yeah, congrats!
  16. That's actually the first version of the game I played I'm almost tempted to check out the cutscenes on youtube because I barely remember them... Almost.
  17. Do yourself a favor and don't do that. First game is available on PSN store and is well worth playing. It's probably better than most games you've played this year.
  18. This is going to be fun! Now to go and replay MGS1 before it arrives!
  19. Listening to this at 7h30 AM on your way to class, the only thing you can possibly think is "Today, I am going to KICK ASS!"

  20. That would be awesome. I have no idea how good I am, though. I have no problem outsmarting the enemy AI when I carefully consider my actions, but I can't imagine it being as easy against a human opponent. Should be fun!
  21. Frozen Synapse. I've had it for a while. Bought it back when it got its own Humble Bundle but I never really got into it that much. I think the first time I tried it I got a bit overwhelmed by how tactical it actually was and how you had to anticipate enemy actions. Probably didn't help either that the tutorial is fairly short and doesn't do a great job of explaining all the tools you have at your disposal. Then a few days ago I started watching TotalBiscuit's "WTF is..." series and saw there was one on Frozen Synapse. The video actually did a much better job than the tutorial at explaining everything and it really made me want to give it another shot. Really glad I did because I've been playing the single-player campaign and it's freaking brilliant! Too bad the online is very dead. First time I logged on, 4 of the 6 servers were empty and there was only about 40 players online.
  22. Just bought the Indie Game Music Bundle for 11$. I feel like it's worth it for the VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac soundtracks alone, even though I'm pretty sure I already owned the Binding of Isaac soundtrack through Steam. But it's so weird to have to grab the files from the game install directory that I never bothered to get them and just forgot about it until now lol
  23. I'm also pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that they confirmed the graphic novel bits will return. The game will tell its story through both cutscenes and the graphic novel panels. I mean, originally I was just as wary as you, Doc. But the more I see of the game, the less worried I am. The day-time/brazilian (or whatever) setting is definitely a departure, but ultimately it's nothing more than a backdrop for the story. Also, when they released that first trailer, I pretty much lost it when I heard the Max Payne violin theme.
