  1. How is that different from Cerberus Network/other project $10 stuff? . I think its almost the same as project $10, which I don't think is a negative thing if done right. Project $10 can be really good, and they used it in Bad Company 2 to get some extra multiplayer maps. They didn't cut out any, but they added like 2 or 3 extra maps if you bought it new. BF3 also had a good add-on with the Back to Karkand DLC, which btw is so meaty I would have paid $10 for with out thinking twice. Infact, on a separate note, that B2K pack for BF3 not only made me want to purchase BF3 new, but because of how much I think it added to the game, makes me more interested in buying more BF3 DLC, which is another benefit to adding stuff like that to new game buyers. As far as Cerberus Network, I don't think I've heard of it, so I can't comment on the similarities on that. @TN Yes, it can be very subjective, but most DLC doesn't change the main story line, and tends to be more of a side quest package or a sub-story. Of course this isn't always the case, but it seems to be the most common practice of DLC.
  2. Haven't really jumped in and made any comments, but I don't think we can eradicate piracy. Piracy will always find a way, but what the game companies need to do is look at iTunes, Zune, and other like music/movie delivery systems, and see how they impacted the music industry, look why people have chosen to purchase music over pirating again. Pirating will always be there, and there is nothing you can do to completely get rid of it, so combat piracy with services that makes Pirating seem more of a hassle. Music is also on a different level, anybody can afford a $1 impulse buy, but what I see from those stores is people who have pirated music almost exclusively make a change and started to purchase their music. People don't mind paying for it, as long as they can get it with no hassle and with as little effort as possible. I think Dean hit it just right, reward early adopters with limited free DLC (that would make me buy a game day one if I could get a few extra dollars out of my purchase), reward new game buyers with some kind of discount for DLC/old game addons, or something like that, and don't worry about punishing used buyers/pirates. Sims3 had a great anti-piracy method (in theory, I don't know if they added any other controversial DRM in the game)... buy sims 3, log on to the internet just once to register the game and you get a free second neighborhood. Anyone who has a used copy/pirated copy can't access a free neighborhood so they either have to buy it, or do without. Don't cut stuff out of the game, but add extra fun in a new purchase that is at little to no cost extra to the developer. I really think there needs to be a better delivery method for games as well. Steam is almost 100% what we need, a few tweaks and I would say its the games version of iTunes. Make something that people want to use, that will make them change their minds from being a pirate to being a paying customer.
  3. I have the ebony blade, haven't used it, what is its power?
  4. Playing the BF3 campaign. This is how all the missions go "Go fight these guys in the open, but beware because they will one hit kill you the instant you get to the point with no cover that we want you to get to

Did gamers insist on a campaign or did EA?

    3. MasterDex

      MasterDex

EA I'm sure did but the gamers did too, even if not implicitely. Ye've seen it yourself. If Modes A, B and C aren't there, there are whiners. It's similar to how a certain type of gamer will demand co-op in everything even if co-op doesn't make sense.

You mean like co-op Tekken and Punch Out!? Or co-opoly and tic-tac-co-op?

  5. I loved hovering in Warhawk, but turning into mechs is just as cool... The ground controls were really where I felt there needed to be improvements.
  6. How much better is it from Warhawk? I loved Warhawk, but the game wasn't as fine tuned as many games that came out afterwards, making it hard to go back and play.
  7. Your probably going to think that I am being nitpicky, but to me its the difference from one browser to the other. With Firefox, you type "F" and you press down and enter to go to Facebook. With Chrome you type "F" and enter. It cuts out pressing down on your keyboard. Its so much faster and convenient that I will not move back to Firefox until they put this in. EDIT Woah, miss-read your last post FDS, you can just make it so you hit "F" and enter and thats how you get there? I'm intrigued. EDIT2 I just figured out how to do that, but its not entirely the same. With Chrome it is predictive, so if you are typing face it will predict that you are going to type facebook, so you could be type "F" enter, "fa" enter, "fac" enter and so on. Still I might be making my switch to firefox now though
  8. **le sigh** I stopped reading right after the very first sentence. I want to put this straight, buying a used car is NOT the same as buying a used game. With games, you purchase a license to play the game and a car you are buying a physical item. When something breaks, the manufacturer of the car has potential to sell you the replacement part. During maintenance, the manufacturer has the potential to sell you new parts. These are qualities we will never see in games, the closest thing that you can see in a game is DLC, which is optional and the game is still 100% playable without the DLC, unlike a GM fuel pump for your Chevy, which without the car is a piece of useless metal. On top of all of this, when you buy a used game, you cannot buy a used registration. You have to purchase a new registration for that vehicle, and then every year, pay a fee to continue to use that vehicle legally. As someone who works in a repair shop, you know that GM, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler, Honda... ect... all have not only a chance of selling new parts to used cars, but are more than likely going to actually successfully sell new parts (with profit included) to used car customers. Hell they sell parts to cars that have been bought new. So no, a used car is not the same as a used game. If anyone uses that argument, in my opinion, has already lost my support, even though I support used game sales.
  9. Thanks for that link Dean. I love google chrome, but its getting pretty sluggish with every update. I honestly want to switch back to firefox, but the way Chrome you just type f then enter and it takes you to the most visited f site (facebook for me) is so convenient that I won't switch until firefox adds that feature. Sure its really not that big of a deal, but honestly its enough to make me want to stick with Chrome
  10. I hate the idea of it. Used games help, they get people interested in a franchise, developer, or even in a genre. From used game sales there is a potential in someone enjoying your game so much that they will buy the next game new. There are people (myself included) who would never jump into a franchise if they couldn't get an intro on the cheap, and used games/borrowed games/rented games help. Not every used game turns someone into buying games new, and not everybody buys used games. I stopped buying used games because there are always deals that I can find/or wait for, get the game new for the same price or cheaper than used games. Also at a $5 premium, I'll take the new over the used, thank you very much. So no, it wont affect my purchases, and I will buy a console no matter what, but I don't like it, and I don't think its a good business practice.
  11. My girlfriend left her iPad with me for about a month and I used it a lot, but I realized that it was no easier than a laptop, and since I have a laptop I had no desire to get one.... Then the Kindle Fire was priced. I want that thing so bad. I love my Kindle, and the fire looks great for comics and magazines and netflix! something to do when I go to a hotel or something. I can't justify purchasing one at any price, but I want it at that price.
  12. That first picture has some inception going on!
  13. I feel like a Demo, even at 45 minutes, gives me a better understanding of what the game is, or what it tries to be, more than a review. Like I said in chat, I'm not writing it off, but I now know what the game plays like, how main mechanics of the game work, and I wasn't impressed. I'll still play the game, just not at entry price.
  14. Now that the demo has been out for 4 days (an eternity in internet time), I want to know what peoples opinions are on the game. I enjoyed it, but I also felt the entire time that the game was just okay, a game I'll buy one day, but not something I'll jump out to buy right away. I have to say, I love the art style and the effort put into designing the world, but the game overall feels very... safe. Nothing stands out that makes it a must have game, in my opinion. I would like to see this game do well, give the developers some courage to come out with a real daring sequel, but I personally will wait for it to be on sale or drop in price.

  17. I'm on the middle difficulty level, and I've had 5 horses die. 1 died because it charged into a fort for no reason, and everybody attacked it and me. I survived, but not my horse. The other I went and attacked a dragon, and a dragon priest came out. As I ran away, my horse was killed by the dragon. The next 3 are stupid reasons. Two died when I got off the horse and they flew and one hit a mountain and the other a windmill, both dying from the impact. My last horse died from rocks that were used against me in a trap that I avoided earlier, and when I was riding by they spawned in the middle of my horse, killing him.
  18. I've never played a .hack game, but for some reason I'm excited for the new one. There is very little info to go by, but I just think it'll a fresh feeling game.

I agree with that for some odd reason. I watched my brother play bits of the .hack games (the original quartet) and while seeming slow gameplay wise, the story sounded great! And I did like the little anime that came packaged with it.

  19. The RU and US have different starter weapons. Eventually you unlock those weapons for the other team. It's only starter weapons, and what ever level it is to unlock the other starter weapons.

Every once in a while, I get bad latency on games, but if I'm wired to my router, its really good. I was impressed when I bought Just Cause on it.

I'd love to see it as a bonus included with more traditional game delivery systems, like the DXHR thing, I just don't see it having a major impact on home gaming until internet infrastructure gets some pretty serious upgrading.

  21. Who ever was incharge when they came up with the method that PS3 uses to update needs to be kicked in the shins. Seriously. You open up the game and then it says that there is an update, like every other game, so you download it an install it via Sony's incredibly slow download system. Fine thats all done with, then you boot up the game again and you have to go through a launcher that has to update a second time, typically the same size, BUT SLOWER. I don't understand why it has to update twice? I get the launcher, there is more to an update than downloading version 1.3 or what ever, but why can't they include everything in one download on the launcher like the PC? WHY?

  24. I think it would be cool to see a fantasy world that has moved into the "Modern Era" What would Elder Scrolls be like when the Imperial City is like New York today, with people and cars and what not? What about the social standards of the different races?

  25. no need to apologize, it was clearly marked, I just kept reading even knowing XP. I'm glad to hear about the dragons though!
