  1. I'm pretty pissed that I spent ages recruiting all these people for a suicide mission against the Collectors when they already had an invasion fleet with a General and everything!
  2. Yeah, playing them so close together probably helps in many regards, as does having the Extended Cut, which Ethan already mentioned. Though I'm not sure how well the organic/synthetic nonsense carries over, and the jump of Cerberus from covert ops to full-on Sith Empire is a little jarring, regardless. Plus, the final section is complete crap compared to ME2's (boss fight excepted). And, obviously, it can be hard to sort the legitimate complaints/criticism from general bitching. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear about the deaths and your ending. Regardless of the 'promises about choices blahblah', I think there's quite a bit of diversity between people I've spoken to. As for the engine and dev team switch, the Montreal studio handled parts of ME2 as well as stuff in ME3 (specifically, they are in charge of the wonderful multiplayer). And I believe their staff do move about or still collaborate anyway. I'd hope it's not even more of a switch away from the RPGness (ME3 already cut enough corners), but at least the combat side of things will be top-notch. I guess we'll see... Also, this is great/cheeky. http://blog.bioware.com/2012/11/13/were-answering-the-call/
  3. Dang. That's a big haul. That Spider-Man 2 cover is awful though. Is Funny People good? I don't mind that it's not really a comedy, but I know Judd Apatow films have long stretches of booooring.
  4. I feel like there's some joke going over my head with that yoghurt.
  5. Baps can also mean breasts. That is my contribution.
  6. I'm generalising, sure, but it doesn't fill me with much confidence if, yet again, they can't create a consistent or coherent story. I don't see how they can create compelling characters or narrative inside a patchwork of empty cultural references. A minor example, GTAIV had 'herpderp space marines' and 'oh, tentacle porn anime' on its TV station when those things were already outdated. And they're not creating anything unique or fresh because they're copying films from yesteryear without any of the substance behind it. Admittedly, I'm being a bit harsh, and we don't know enough about the game yet but, as one of the main creative people, he sounds disingenuous or just stupid.
  7. Heh, I don't think watching The Wire makes you superior, but avoiding it, along with many other great contemporary shows, makes you look incredibly ignorant. If they're emulating or channelling the genre (or satirising American media culture), they'd do best to try and keep up with what everyone else is doing. Besides, how do you borrow from TV structurally by assembling action films back to back?
  8. Disappointingly brief interview with one of the Housers, though there are some interesting comments. The thing about being able to play as the protagonist and antagonist sounds interesting... And I love this... Or, you know, doesn't work. Followed by... Explains a lot.
  9. Classic FM had a video games music special http://www.classicfm.com/music-news/latest-news/listen-again-video-games-music-special/ I still get chills when I hear those opening bars from Halo 3's One Final Effort

Dammit. Haven't listened to ClassicFM (or radio at all) in the months I've been here. Always wanted a VG one. But woot for listening again.

Oh it's pretty much just "Generic VG Album" with commentary :/ Always the dullest selection of music.

Yeah, I think it's existing compositions (one of those LPO albums), but nice to see some 'exposure'.

  10. Day Watch. A much more satisfying film than the first, as it builds on everything already established while fleshing out all the other characters (Anton's vampire neighbours, Olga, Svetlana, Alisa) and giving them stronger roles. It still retains its quirky charm, though it can get a bit muddled at times. The conclusion, especially, seems a bit too rushed. And, oddly enough, everything is wrapped up neatly (perhaps too neatly) I'm not even sure there needs to be a third film anyway...
  11. Ethan is slowly becoming Chewie. I played the demo and it seemed really good, but it's something you'd have to sink a lot of time into in order to get the most out of it.
  12. It's a missed opportunity, sure. The 'Hollywood real' is a valid point in another regard though, because that's exactly what drives the Houser brothers. They just pick bits from films here and there. They're not exactly being progressive as much as derivative (when it comes to story). I'd say they borrow a lot from Mann, Tarantino and Scorsese. Heat? All male. Reservoir Dogs? Pulp Fiction (bar the one female sidekick)? All male. Goodfellas? Once Upon A Time In America? The Departed (and the original)? All male. While they try and ground the narrative, they are not writing true crime or even The Wire. They are inspired by and following the beats of earlier films. On the other hand, it does sound like they are exploring some different areas. For all we know, it could be a takedown of the masculine approach to matters; they are all violent criminals unable to find happiness regardless of wealth or whatever. Those deeper sorts of ideas are present in the films that Rockstar mimics but haven't always translated well into or remained consistent with the games. It's probably expecting a bit much, but Red Dead Redemption was a step in the right direction after GTAIV took a few shots at some.
  13. Ha, wow. Taking the time difference into consideration, I thought it was the same person. Same nose, eyebrows and such. Are they aware of this? I think they need to be told!
  14. Same friend as well! Were you dressed as one of The Hives?
  15. The witch-hunt is not a leap of logic.
  16. They're distinct in that they come from different backgrounds and have different personalities, but I meant as if they were unaware of each other and then, gradually, their stories came together rather than them all being thick as (bank) thieves. Not that I'm disappointed with what they have done, in some regards, since this approach seems more centred on interesting gameplay anyway, plus I can see the potential for conflict and such.
  17. Guess it depends how many older people you know, but the priest stuff is usually the most prominent in people's minds (paedosexual is not a thing). Plus, it is exactly these people who are likely to go on a witch-hunt because they're the most misinformed, likely getting all their news and views from pap like This Morning.
  18. Yeah, I think Ethan covered the other possible angle. Not that it's necessarily a prejudice Cameron shares, but he is most likely aware of it. I know older people in this country share that view...
  19. Anyone got any thoughts on the multiplayer yet? Is it faster-paced, do the abilities make much of a difference, maps any good, etc.?
  20. Yeah, I'm still pretty excited, but I would have hoped for more distinct characters with a story that gradually intertwines (like the Episodes, but to a greater extent). Playing an undercover cop or something, would have been a bit more interesting.
  21. A Confederacy of Dunces! Ha, zing!
