  1. I guess it's a matter of waiting to see what happens, but I'm a little sceptical since they were waaaaay over target already. I've long seen poor planning/management by developers/publishers (usually identifiable by the statement "This game didn't sell a squillion copies, so it was a failure") where it would've been better to examine where the money should be going. To create an adventure game requiring a higher budget than one that was already 800%+ over your original plan (or to axe 75% of the game!) just screams of excess. A crude point to make, but I doubt you can say you'll enjoy the game 800% more than something like Tales of Monkey Island or The Walking Dead.
  2. Hehe, I didn't think the Lex Luthor joke was that subtle (but I suppose it's trickier when someone else has started playing along too).
  3. Played too many doom and gloom games lately so I decided I'd better actually play Beyond Good & Evil HD. Really enjoying it so far. I like the design of the world and all that, so it's fun just walking around, taking pictures of things. A few little issues with the camera (not Jade's one!) at certain points, but nothing that affects my enjoyment.

  5. DC Universe Dream Cast Seems p good, I suppose. Not sure about their choice for Lex Luthor...
  6. Haven't been following the film too closely because it doesn't really appeal to me, but the marketing does seem a bit uneven at the moment. For now it seems to be aimed squarely at people who watch the regular Hollywood blockbusters and just want big, dumb action a la Bay, Abrams and most superhero films. From what I've read, the film is a little more tongue-in-cheek than it appears (probably obvious to people who know the creators and such) and they're yet to show the character focus. For one, the Jaeger program was actually ended and it's just Idris Elba's character taking it over to continue the fight with whatever robots are left. There'll be flashbacks for one character who lost their parents to a Kaiju attack who teams up with another who lost a 'drift-compatible' partner. Then there's Charlie Day and Burn Gorman as two scientists, one a nuclear cosmologist and physicist wanting to destroy the Kaiju and the other a biologist actually seeking to understand them; meant to be a sort of comic, competitive relationship. There's clearly a knowingness and intention to its style and story.
  7. Oh, no, I got all that. I didn't mean it as a negative. I just meant that it might be wrong to attribute meaning to something that was more about convenience than anything deeper. But the way it's presented suggests it has some significance, perhaps in how it goes from a sort of negative meaning to a positive one.
  8. The Last Of Us. Really great game. Multi-layered, moving story and some nifty gameplay to boot.
  9. Hey, I get to join the conversation now! Overall, really liked it. Can't say I enjoyed it as much as the large majority og people, but that's definitely more down to personal taste. It does a good job of really dynamic stealth and action, and the story is the real standout. Sooo... Oh, and I have to ask, are fireflies related to the American Civil War somehow? I never studied that period of history. After Firefly and this, I figure there must be some connection.
  10. Seems that GTA thing was made from someone else's artwork. Either way, the artist has a tumblr and they did some more characters. http://moshi-kun.tumblr.com/

  13. Out Of The Past Great film noir. It's got the usual ingredients but features a strong romantic element that elevates it, though I can't say more for fear of spoiling it. Highly recommended. This Is The End Starts off almost a little too self-indulgent, but soon picks up and has quite a few good laughs (with a fair few jumpscares as well). It does rather heavily rely on liking the actors and their respective (or non-respective, in some regards) bag of tricks, since their 'weird personas' aren't actually far off how you're used to seeing them. Just a shame there wasn't more Michael Cera... It's a little aimless for a large part of the running time, but it's still amusing and does well with a fairly outlandish concept.

  16. WHYYY? WHY ARE YOU GUYS DOING THIS?!
  17. Obviously, this is a really old thing but it's the first time I've heard about it. Pretty cool. http://www.upworthy.com/watch-a-teacher-make-her-3rd-grade-kids-hate-each-other-for-the-best-reason-imaginable-2
  18. There have been times where I got past but had to be out in the open to lift a gate and things like that. Not too bad really, but there was an annoying instance of clearing out an area and beginning to loot the place, only to find myself inside a storage cupboard as a newly-spawned enemy approached, leaving no 'clean' exit. What I mean is that it's never as clear-cut as other games I'm used to.
  19. Forgot to respond to this. I meant stuff like the Arkham games, Deus Ex: HR and Alpha Protocol. I can cope with those because it's easy to get a grip on the mechanics (plus, AP has the really handy cloaky stuff and it's easy enough to shoot your way out, while DE:HR has a cloaking ability) and you can safely manoeuvre about, picking people off without having to worry about resources and whatnot (for the most part). TLoU is just a lot more complex and demanding. Not bad, per se, but takes some adapting. I seem to be getting the hang of it, though there was a particularly annoying wave-respawn moment and other times where it can be a bit directionless, where you get through and then discover you have to kill everyone to progress.
  20. I know I said The Last of Us' gameplay wasn't really doing it for me... well, I JUST THREW A BRICK AT A BOOBY TRAP AS AN ARMOURED DUDE WAS WALKING PAST IT. Amazing!

Ellie made "not annoying protect mission" by simply turning off enemy detection of her? Because that cop-out pisses me off. Wasn't okay in Bioshock.

Actually, FMW, she can be detected by enemies when in open conflict, it's just that Joel is way higher priority and she's pretty good at staying out of the way. She's just not detectable when you're trying to be stealthy, which is a huge relief because it's bad enough in the instances where she obstructs your path into cover.

  21. Cowboys & Aliens. Cool concept, good cast, rote and fairly humourless Hollywood blockbuster.
