  1. I saw Season of the Witch last weekend. Awful movie. Just awful.
  2. Magnets aren't technically anti-grav. It's currently possible to make hovering things with the use of jets and air cushions and the like. It's also possible that someday we will be able to control gravity and make hover technology that way.
  3. Maybe publishers should find ways to make losing fun to forestall rage quitting.
  4. I'll play just about anything, so genre doesn't really matter except in a few cases. Really, I generally avoid FarmVille-like facebook games because I think they're boring. I also don't play fighting or shmup games because I suck at them and don't find them very fun. Otherwise I'm game for anything, so long as my pickiness about things other than genre doesn't find something to intensely dislike. Edit: Probably wanna add puzzle and MMORPG to the list of genres, too.
  5. Wednesdays, eh? Thursday and Saturday were my law school drinky nights; being hungover and then cold called in a class like Securities Regulation or Antitrust is no laughing matter.
  6. There's a long and complicated answer to that question. But the simple version is that, for a variety of reasons, the US auto industry and govt decided (for a variety of good and bad reasons) to favor gasoline over diesel, resulting in a higher tax on diesel fuel than on gasoline. Now the infrastructure is entrenched and it will cost mucho bucks if folks re-adopt diesel suddenly en masse. But there has been a growing interest in diesel fuel amongst US consumers. I personally support a significantly lower tax on diesel fuels as a way to help speed the adoption of diesel vehicles in America.
  7. Ugh. I hate waking up at 5:30. It makes me cranky all day long.

The smell of Napalm does help though?

  8. If an un-starring rampage is two people who made dick comments at the beginning, then our skin is just as thin as we accuse theirs of being. EDIT: Not, mind you, that I find the comment worth the attention to begin with. I agree 100%. I also dislike this trend of highlighting long and inane comments on the front page. Few are worthwhile and most are just babble.
  9. The real crime of FF13 was, I suppose, subjecting players to 40 hours of the worst tropes and foibles of teh series as a whole. Locke was tolerable because, in the scheme of things, he didn't actually have that much to say. Hope speaks during the awful and nonsensical forest level with Lightning more than Locke does in the entirety of FFVI, but manages to actually say less and is far and away more grating than Locke. Squall is a bitch, though, too, I totally agree. Hope actually manages to be more annoying than Squall, though, for much the same reason Hope is more annoying than Locke. It's easy, however, to rail against the hypocrisies of aggregate opinion. And doing so will not convince anyone that FFXIII is a good game if the game itself hasn't. It's okay to like bad games; there are a bunch of bad games I enjoy tremendously. FFXIII was just an insultingly stupid grind for me, that's all.
  10. I have zero interest in revisiting anything from FF13 - the world, the characters, the system, anything at all. So I'll only be interested in FFXIII-2 if it's a completely different game. Given that it's FFXII-2. I guess FFXIII sold well, so I'm not surprised it's getting a sequel. And given the myopia at Squenix of late, I doubt it will be much different from FFXIII.
  11. I hate when it's drizzly and cold. It seems to make everyone meaner, myself included.

I'm so glad that the East Bay doesn't get the fog part of the cold Pacific winds here. Poor SF.

Drizzly and cold is a nice change from drizzly, hot, and humid like it is all the time here in Georgia.

You people must all have cars because it's just miserable to walk any significant distance outside in the sleet when it's 35 degrees out.

  12. Looks like I get to sleep on the couch tonight. Wonderful.

I have to get the super to do it; I suspect the problem is actually in the apartment above me, or at least can be more easily accessed from there.

  13. I hate football but I'm kind of glad to see everyone on my Facebook feed having a fit over the Pats losing to the Jets. As a New Englander living in New York it makes me smile a bit to see all those who couldn't fathom someone hating football see their golden boy losing. Is it baseball season yet? *puts on Yankee cap* I approve of all intense dislike of Tom Brady, no matter the reason or source.
  14. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Let's be honest here, how many ammo types did you EVER use in Mass Effect? One? Maybe two? You found a favorite and usually stuck with it, selling everything else. Same thing for the weapon modifications (grenades included). The only upgrading that ever actually happened was just buying new armor and weapons, and hell, you usually only did that once or twice and you were set for the rest of the game. The stats page? Good grief, what a nightmare. It felt fairly ridiculous that I could roll Shepard as a Soldier and be all set up as this top marine and everything, and yet I had to dump points into an Assault Rifle skill just so I could actually aim with it. The ONLY good thing about ME1 were the RPG elements. The rest was improved upon in every way by ME2. As for DA2, I'm the kind of guy who freaks out over the classes - I watch buffs, nerfs, every single modification. My biggest gripe with DAO, as far as classes were concerned, was how bad melee rogues were. They required an obscene amount of gear (most of it bought with gold) before they ever actually started doing any decent damage, and even then, they HAD to be behind the target. Ranged rogues were almost always better. Interestingly enough, they used a rogue for the combat trailer, and it actually looks... fun. It's acrobatic. It's brutal. It looks like what rogues SHOULD have been in the first game. I've got the Signature Edition pre-ordered. I'm excited for it. Absolutely. I did say ME2 was a better game. Just not as good as it would have been if it had more RPG elements. Just because they sucked in the first one doesn't mean that different, but deep,RPG system would have had to in the second as well.
  15. Financing on computers is a scam unless you're a business. Save up and buy it all at once. The m11x isn't that expensive in the scheme of things and you'll save the cash if you really want one.
  16. Man, late night TV on Sunday is some real bullshit. Time to Netflix instant something.

  17. Well, Dell sometimes has good deals. My expectation would be that most retailers mark these babies up and that there's probably enough demand that you won't see sales on the i-series models any time in the near future.
  18. I think a silent protagonist can be awkward at times. It's just that, more often than not, I totally do not relate to protagonists in video games at all. Indeed, I actively dislike many video game player characters. It's better to have someone silent whom I can project onto than an awful character I'm stuck with the whole game. It's why I haven't liked any JRPG's since I was in high school.
  19. Companion armor is nerfed heavily. Companions can only wear rings and belts. I think Hawke still has a few different sets s/he can get. But I wouldn't expect many different pieces of armor at all.
  20. I love the gameplay. The annoying plot and characters are amusing for about five minutes before they get annoying. But the the superb and complex gameplay more than make up for the juvenile story and characters.
  21. It's not that Bioware doesn't make good games, it's that they have a recent history of making the wrong type of changes when "improving" a series in its sequel. Case in point is ME2. ME2 is a better game than ME. But that was achieved by ripping out the RPG soul of ME1 and minimizing character customization options. ME2, in many ways, was a very different game than ME1. My fear is that DA2 will represent a removal of character customization options and become a clickfest punctuated by the standard Bioware dialogue options sections.
  22. "Hardened?" Don't you mean "moistened?" I mean, that's amongst the usual prerequisites for a FFM ménage à trois. Or is there, so to speak, more to Dawn Star and Silk Fox than I had thought?
  23. Went to a friend's and watched the Jets annihilate Tom fucking Brady's group of prepubescent schoolgirls and then immediately switched to the Golden Globes. Maybe have had too much to drink. *hic*
  24. I love that pic. It will be an epic game between the two finest teams in the League.
  25. If you have an .edu email, you might be able to get a deal through Dell, IIRC. I managed to get my i5 for just a shade over $800 all told with my old .edu address. I wasn't even in school any more.
