  1. I didn't play much of MGS 1 and 2 and I really enjoyed MGS3. Trust me, Ethan, just play MGS3 and be done with the series. It's truly the only one worth playing.
  2. Just an update: still playing Dark Souls, although I think I'm overleveled at level 70 for the Lord Souls quests. I just straight blazed through the Catacombs and the Tomb of Giants like no other. Nito himself only took two tries. Only invaders can touch me when I'm rocking full Havel's Armor and the Black Knight Halberd +3. Now I just need to figure out where to go next; I don't think I've found any of the other entrances to other Lords Souls dungeon areas. Ethan: if you're gonna play any MGS game, play MGS3 Snake Eater. It's not as crazy dated and it's the first chronologically, so there's not much backstory. It's also the only MGS game worth playing for folks who aren't already MGS fans. Seriously, the other games are convoluted messes. MGS 3 is great fun.
  3. It's not really VR without full body tracking and a tactile feedback component. Still looks nifty.
  4. Defeating Ornstein and Smough solo made me feel more satisfied than any video game has in a long time.

I play a melee tank outfitted with Havel's gear usually, but had to substitute in a bunch of lighter stuff so I could maneuver. I attacked Ornstein first with a black knight halberd. Once smough powered up, I switched to a longbow +5 and large arrows and kited him to death. This was after maybe 25+ attempts at tanking them in Havel's armor. I couldn't move fast enough against either super form and kept dying.

I beat them alone as well. Took me many tries but the trick was to be as mobile as possible. Blocking wasn't as effective against them as being fast and dodging.

      Pojodin

I was able to beat them by myself as well. I came close quite a few times, but eventually I was successful.

  5. I don't really think the gas line explosion is politics, really. At least not yet. If you know of anything I can do to help, since you have family in the neighborhood, please let me know.
  6. It bodes that Watch Dogs will not be very next gen. I was under the impression the basic gamesystems other than graphics required a lot of processing power and RAM. If they just require the meager power and RAM the 360 and PS3 can supply, it doesn't bode well for the game living up to the hype.
  7. That's what I suspected. Just wondering to what extent developers are cross-generation changing games for the new consoles. The fact that cross-gen titles essentially feel like competent, but not spectacular, PC ports doesn't bode well for Watch Dogs.
  8. Just curious: do the PS4 and Xbone versions feel very next-gen, or do they feel like 360/PS3 games with a graphics boost? I am aware my question is kind of vague, but I'm interested in what folks consider next-gen.
  9. Fighting a wolf that wields a sword has been my favorite part of Dark Souls so far.

Had a lot of false starts over the past year or so. Just got the hang of it a couple weeks ago. Trying to complete it by April 25 for DS2 on PC.

wish you the best of luck man. Great game. Don't be discouraged by boss battles later on, it's all about dodging and/or dat zero damage shield

I can dig. Took me two days to pass Quelaag because I was woefully underprepared. I think I have the hang of it now. Going through Sen's fortress and progressing nicely.

  10. Well, it's stupid to require everyone download every language. From the thread Dean linked, it appears that Origin does not let you have the option of downloading and installing only specific audio files. Malicious- I do my best to make sure I have Cantonese, Mandarin, Min, and even Hokkien Chiense language files, if I can. Just don't ask me what the differences are between all those moon-man languages.
  11. I refuse to buy any game unless it includes uncompressed audio files for all the major languages of the world. I mean, what if a visiting Frenchman or Chinese wants to play my copy? I have to be hospitable and change the audio language to accommodate my guests! And it would be the height of rudeness only to offer them compressed audio; might as well just mute the damn thing if compressed is all that is available.
  12. South Park: Stick of Truth. It was funny, and well-done as a South Park game parodying all sorts of gaming tropes in classic South Park style. Probably the funniest game I've played, much better written than the Saints Row games (which makes sense; Matt and Trey have been writing jokes for two decades). I encountered two repeating bugs; a flickering main character during cut scenes and random de-equiping of weapon and armor mods. Did not really hurt my enjoyment of the game. Well worth $45, but not replayable at all.
  13. Don't step to me about knowledge of the workings of the EU, Dean. I've worked at a Frankfurt law firm on transnational EU corporate deals and regulatory compliance. I am fully aware the EU as a political entity had nothing to do with any scrubbing of content in the Stick of Truth. I also know that Germany's getting its very own special actually-censored edition without swastikas and with other cuts. What I am saying is that the flag is there to indicate that the geographical area in which the EU sits is deprived of content. That is why in Australia the cut-content screen features a koala. The EU flag represents the geographical area, not the political entity.
  14. They used the flag as a symbol for Europe because there aren't many widely-accepted symbols for Europe other than that flag and a map. The map probably just didn't look as good. I am quite certain Ubi and Obsidian and Matt and Trey aren't blaming European governments for the censorship. Well, maybe the German government for however that ends up getting censored.
  15. All Day March 3 and 4 from Time Warner Cable in New York City on laptops and desktops and on Verizon smartphones, only tried the desktop site. Additional slowness on other various wifi networks maintained by local businesses, New York State government, and the federal United States government.
  16. And in Australia they're blaming the koalas! I don't think that the text of these replacement scenes places the blame on the governments of the EU or Australia. I rather think that the protest of censorship comes from Matt and Trey (and *maybe* Obsidian) and is aimed at Ubi, or Ubi's EU and Asutralian divisions. This sort of snafu smacks of idiot corporate management meddling more than anything. I don't think there's any evidence that Ubi or Obsidiana re blaming governments for the censorship; the Guardian rightly points out that the uncut version is rated Pegi 18.
  17. 6 million PS4s sold. Congrats, Sony. Edit: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/03/03/ps4-hits-6-million-ushers-in-new-era-of-social-gameplay
  18. You can't pick anything other than Douchebag as a name, i thought. I got an achievement for not choosing a name and selecting "yes" when Cartman first asks if you want to be Douchebag.
  19. That RPS review makes it sound like they played a different game than I have. The tutorials are fine, and sort of funny, if you like South Park. Maybe it does not control well with mouse and keyboard, but I think it's one of those games that you should play on a controller, since it is clearly a console port to PC. I wonder what sort of graphics options the reviewer wants. It nails the look of South park on TV to such an extent that I have to believe they managed to port assets directly from whatever software the show's animators use.
  20. Stick of Truth for PC. Gameplay vids, $45 at GMG, and Jim Sterling's 'hakuna matata' tweet pushed me over the line.
  21. Only Metal Gear game worth playing is Snake Eater.

    LGBT

It's a model law being pushed by anti-gay lobbyists. Laws similar to it will be pushed in other deep-red statehouses.
  23. Dark Souls, you have won my heart.

  24. According to reviews, Thief i aggressively mediocre and plagued with bugs and poor design decisions!

      Waldorf and Statler

I like stealth, but I'm coming in very cautious to this title. Like extremely.

  25. The Lego Movie. So good, although there are a few jokes that don't work (likely because they're aimed at 5 year olds), and a few not-as-interesting sections. Like Father, Like Son. A Japanese film by Hirozaku Koreeda about a white-collar family who discovers that their sons was switched at birth and the boy they think is their biological son is the biological son of a blue-collar family. Great emotional film about the meaning of family (without getting stupid hokey). Robocop sucked balls, but I'll post why in the proper thread.
