DRM, Online Pass, Project Ten Dollar and the like
Faiblesse Des Sens replied to Yantelope's topic in General Gaming Chat
Dean is blaming the jailbreak and I'm blaming the developer. That's the difference here. -
Finally picked up Dishonored + Knife of Dunwall. Also got Natural Selection 2. I'm waiting on Reus. $5 is the price point I want but I want Humble Store to match it.

DRM, Online Pass, Project Ten Dollar and the like

What evidence otherwise? as far as I'm to understand this only affects jailbroken devices and so far has had no false positives (which would make it super terrible, such as that game making tool on Steam writing over everyones images with a skull n crossbones logo despite legitimately owning it). You keep saying stuff like this: Repeatedly you have stated that jailbreaking is the cause of this. It's not. It's the way the games are programmed. -
What are you currently playing?

Melee is a good way to go in New Vegas. Also it's actually a RPG so you can choose speech and similar options and they'll actually do something in New Vegas compared to FO3. -

Two examples of where they're programmed to work differently. If they don't program it then they work fine and you've provided no evidence otherwise. -
Games You've Beat in 2013

I beat The Last of Us in less than week. Fairly long game compared to any of the Uncharted games. I got my $14 worth or however much this rental is going to cost me. -

You have stated multiple times that jailbroken apps work differently. They don't. This particular one only does because they programmed it to. Much like you could program it to work differently on different iOS device models. -

Do you even know what point you're making anymore? If they didn't program it to act differently on a jailbroken device it wouldn't act different. -
Steam Summer Sale Recs: Cheap-o Edition
Faiblesse Des Sens replied to Saturnine Tenshi's topic in PC Games
Wasn't it insanely cheap super recently on GMG? -
I picked up New Vegas Ultimate as well. I hate having the DLC as separate downloads so upgrading my copy to Ultimate was worth the $5.
-
I picked up a pack with Been There Dan That and Time Gentleman Please for 50 cents and then bought Tomb Raider Anniversary for under a dollar. Spending big this summer sale.

Huh? Your choices affect how every single scene plays out. I think people were expecting too much if the overall story was vastly different dependent on your choices. -

How can you be this ignorant? They programmed it not to work on jailbroken devices. The game detects that it's jailbroken as a form of DRM. It's DRM that makes it not work. Not the fact that it's jailbroken. If they released the game as normal (which is EXACTLY what they're doing now that this was made public) it will work fine. Where is your evidence that a game that is programmed normally won't work the same on a jailbroken device? Like I said, they could do the same thing if you were running an older version of iOS or any other number of factors. They chose to lock out jailbroken devices from a feature of the game instead of letting it be. It's DRM. Nothing else. -

It acts exactly the fucking same. It clearly doesn't I don't get your point. It only doesn't because it's programmed to be different. It's not a matter of jailbreaking. It's a matter of how the game was programmed. They could do the same thing to a non-jailbroken device. If no one programs it to be different it acts the same. -

It only doesn't work because they programmed specifically not to work. I don't get what you're not grasping there. They did it on purpose. It's not a bug that the game displays a message that disables your guns, tells you that it's disabling your guns, and then mentions that it's because you're jailbroken. It acts exactly the fucking same. -

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever seen you say. An iPhone 5 is an iPhone 5, regardless of if it's jailbroken. So if it says it's compatible with iPhone 5 that covers the jailbroken ones unless they specify otherwise. This is exactly why I gave the example of my Nexus 4. I run the exact same version of the operating system but I have root level privileges. Everything works. My phone didn't magically get different specs. All that I've ever seen is one app where they say they won't offer support. It's the same phone running the same OS. There is zero reason to believe that just because it's jailbroken something won't work. We're going in circles now. I already pointed out that developers literally have to program in something to not make it work on jailbroken devices. They have to intentionally do it. If you just develop your app like normal it works. -
Well except your money back. What's steam's policy on that? If we're talking about Early Access titles, unlike Pre-orders where it is possible to get a simple refund before the game is out (sometimes a nice bonus to being European, 3 day window to see if a game is super-fucked), Early Access games are treated as being launched, so no easy refunds without media campaigns such as with The War Z. For Kickstarter, if a project is backed there's a minor buffer window where the money is transferred to the project, after that you're SOL on getting money back without legal intervention. Though given in most cases it's like $15 or so you're likely to eat it as a loss. The guys that pay like $1000 for a night out on the town with project team however might not roll with it. There has been a couple incidents where a project has come across as a scam, though most of the time that's during the funding stay. Such as that Mythic game with all the stolen artwork. I was referring to this: If I am unable to complete my project as promised, what should I do?"If your project is successfully funded, you are required to fulfill all rewards or refund any backer whose reward you do not or cannot fulfill. A failure to do so could result in damage to your reputation or even legal action by your backers." A company like DF would obviously refund people's money. More shady projects... well that's part of the risk and that's why lawyers exist.

I opened the page for that and realized I already owned it. I'm guessing it was in SomeFuckingBundle 8

Things work exactly the same when you jailbreak your device. You can jailbreak and not change anything or install anything that needs jailbreak. Agreed. But that's not what we're discussing. This goes back your "The particular subset of users aren't meant to be using iOS, let alone the iTunes app store, though" quote which is inherently wrong as you're just not very informed about jailbroken devices. -
Yeah, but that's now how Kickstarter works. We're just going in circles at this point.
-
I think it's more investor than customer. Like, you just have to come out with something, but there is not specific expectation that has to be met for quality. Just the expectations from the Kickstarter of it being an adventure game that is bigger than originally planned.

Faiblesse Des Sens replied to Yantelope's topic in General Gaming Chat
This is incredibly incorrect and I don't know where you even pulled that from. Every app would run exactly the same since all "jailbroken" means is root access. It's not a different OS, version of the OS, or a different kernel. It doesn't mean you've changed anything other than permissions. -
Shouldn't they treat them as investors rather than customers? What you described doesn't really fit for customers.

But the only reason they don't run is because someone had to code them not to run on jailbroken devices. Which is why this is being discussed in the DRM thread.
