  1. So we're getting a couple of 50 degree days and then back to the 30s. I hate New England some times.

I did. This noontime I sat out in my car with the windows down and played Puyo Pop. I've missed weather like this!

i wish it were here for more than just a couple days =(

  2. Last night I watched a couple of melodramatic shorts by D.W. Griffith. They were made in 1910 so I can appreciate how filmmaking and acting as an art was so young but today they are more historical pieces than of entertainment.
  3. I'm thinking we should have these people chained up and they can row my personal fleet of ships. Either that or we can chain them all up for use in chain gangs or for work in the salt mines.
  4. Why would you eat a butt even if you put bacon on it? Oh wait, not the English vs English thread.
  5. Well, they finally did it. Borders filed Chapter 11.

You'd think being a book store and all they'd have more than just chapter 11 on file. Most books aren't even getting started by then, never mind not knowing the end.

I still use film cameras and mail handwritten letters, Brain so I am a bit of a Luddite.

  6. just rubbed some medicine on my woman that contains hemp oil. Do I have to worry about her getting high?

let's just say that I wish hemp oil could get you high. That would make for the most righteous massage ever.

      Medicine with hemp oil?

I dunno, does wearing clothing made out of hemp make you high too?

      T'is a good question.

  8. The only saving grace of the show is Jim Parsons. I hope he breaks out of the Sheldon role as he's obviously a good physical comedian with good deadpan delivery (not unlike say a Buster Keaton.)
  9. Indeed. Pure genius. Anyway, I sympathize as I bought my fiancee a nice antique ring. She likes it but I know several people have commented that the diamonds are tiny and that the ring itself is tiny. That three month bullshit makes me want to kick the teeth out of everyone at DeBeers.

  11. I'm telling you. In the restaurants they sear it on a grill pan and cook it in the oven under the broiler. That's what I plan on doing tonight.
  12. Indeed. It's much cheaper/more romantic to cook and eat at home.
  13. See I always thought BCE/CE was just being needlessly politically correct. Besides, it adds an extra letter.
  14. You will never regret 3D Dot Game Heroes. I can't comment on the rest.
  15. In formal writing in the United States we say today's date is February Fourteenth Two Thousand Eleven Anno Domini (or in the Year of Our Lord) or in more common vernacular we say today is February Fourteenth or just "the fourteenth." It's very rare to hear anyone say that today is "The Fourteenth of February." I don't buy into the argument of "Everyone else but America is doing it so America is wrong" as it comes down to how we say things. I mean 100 years ago it was not uncommon for someone in England to say three and twenty when they meant twenty three.
  16. No, the movie looked like the same shit Hollywood makes every year. There's the old saying that 99% of everything is crap and movies are no exception. I go into every movie I see expecting it to be rubbish.
  17. YYYY/MM/DD makes sense from a file listing point of view. I reorganized a company once who stored all their files in one folder with MM/DD/YYYY format. At least if you're only talking one year those can go in folder and be in order by day without any additional sorting. I'm not seeing how there are more months than days. Unless you are saying that a day is smaller than a month in which case I can see your logic but again in cases of organization (especially automated organization) the DD/MM/YYYY is completely haphazard unless the month is written out.
  18. Caught this on XM this morning. I prefer the original version but it was nice when Gwen Steafani (and No Doubt) didn't suck.
  19. Methinks you're bad at math. Also, I agree on Scott Pilgrim. I think what puts me off is the obsession with the film not unlike the obsession over Twilight. I mean some gamers practically are jizzing in their pants over a fucking crappy movie starring Michael Cera. I don't usually agree with the American public but I'm glad the film bombed. Had it been successful they would've made more films to cater to "gamer culture" - whatever the fuck that is.
  20. I don't know if it's because I'm older or if it's because I'm getting married or what but these forever alone types are starting to bug me. Funk; if I was single I'd be playing some video games or watching a movie or whatever.

I think it's kind of easy to forget what it's like to be single and to romanticize it a bit, when you've been dating someone for a long time. That said, V-Day is a bunch of crap. Lends unnecessary pressure whether you're single or not - regardless of its origins, it's been highjacked like every other holiday to be a blatant consumer holiday.

Good point, Brain. I know when I was an awkward teenager it was an issue for me but eventually you just learn to ignore it. Now who's up for some Presidents' Day Celebrations on Monday?

wat, didyou straight up tweet that earlier?

  21. Ugh! You are so right. The correct way is Month, day, year. There is no logic to dd/mm/yyyy. The last day of the year at 12/31/2011 has a distinct smaller to larger pattern. If you want to say 31 December 2011 then at least that makes some sense by dividing the month and the year but MM/DD/YYYY is by far the more logical and thus the correct version.
  22. So according to tracking, I should be getting a whole mess of DVDs/Blus that I ordered tomorrow. On the flip side it's Valentine's Day ... life is so full of difficult decisions.

  23. I really wish more episodes were available on DVD.
