10 degrees Celsius here in Northern British Columbia. It still feels nice compared to -20 a month ago.

  3. Pretty sure I hate my Congressman too. I actually really like the Congressman whom I could vote for if I lived one town over.
  4. The wife saw The Hunger Games today. Thankfully I was able to stay home and watch silent movies.

What P4 said. Even though there's shaky cam throughout the movie, you adjust to it. the only thing that bothered me at all with the film was in the beginning there are sequences where angles last two seconds before going to another. You essentially get every angle of Effie Trinket's face. :s

The thing that bothered me the most was that every time she draws the bow she pulls it to her chin instead of her cheek. Looks terrible. You'd think someone could have explained to her how to do it right (though it just occurs to me now maybe they intentionally had her do it wrong so it wouldn't obscure her face).

Film her from the other side then? :)

  5. In New England / New York a lot of younger people still say quarter after, half past etc. so it's not an age thing out here.
  6. How many ancient mathematicians have a music video about them? This is the only one I know of ...

  7. Well I beat Mario vs Donkey Kong: Mini Land Mayhem. It was alright but very easy. Only the last couple levels provided any real challenge.
  8. I got that but you pointed out all your Wii games were Nintendo ones. There's really a lot of great stuff on the Wii.
  9. Well, that's not entirely true. Metroid Other M went down pretty quickly (I liked it, I'm not going to argue about its perceived lack of quality.) and I've picked up some great deals on many Nintendo games recently (I got Mario vs Donkey Kong for $11 new at BJ's.) Plus now they have their "Nintendo Selects" series so games are quite cheap. Of course with Nintendo games, the vast majority of them are high quality and sell well. Third parties have a much harder sell than Nintendo on Nintendo hardware since there are so many crappy shovelware games on the Wii. That said, you can find some really great deals on good third party Wii games. I mean, for $100 I could get you at least 10 good games.
  10. The Pacman cartoon is so silly and corny but I really do love it! A chomp a day keeps the ghost monsters away!

  11. I just got back to playing this after being sidetracked by Sonic 4 and Wizorb. I don't have too much left of the game but I'm enjoying it.
  12. I still think #1 is the top reason a lot of people pirate even though they use the others as justification. I know for me if a game has really invasive or horrid DRM, I refuse to buy the damn thing entirely. I think it's one reason I still prefer console games (even with my new sweet PC setup) is that I don't have to worry about getting a keylogger or something calling home just so that I can play a damn game. Pirated games run this same risk and as an IT guy I've had to fix a few PCs of people who got their computers loaded with spyware and viruses while trying to download the latest game. Also, as for the rent prices being too damn high on games, just be patient, grasshopper. Prices almost always come down. Buying day one and complaining about prices is just plain idiotic.
  13. PSN version. It's so awesome! I see that Pinball HOF on the PS3 goes for big big bucks now.
  14. That's funny because the third season is about when I stopped watching. Of course I stopped watching because I lost TV access (my parents didn't let my brother and I have a TV in our shared bedroom)
  15. Apparently you can paint formica countertops. Who knew?!

You can learn a lot of tips for Draw Something by watching Bob. My "picnic" was a masterpiece.

  16. Because it's more convenient? Because it's more convenient? In 1984 they say that the 12 hour clock is the old way of thinking and 24 hour clock is the new way. It's nothing specific, just poking fun. In Metropolis by Thea von Harbou it's taken to another level with a 10 hour clock arranged around the work shift length.
  17. I think Santorum ran a great campaign considering that he had no support from the movers and shakers of the party and that he started with almost no money. I do hope he's able to return to private life and take care of his daughter, whom I hope lives a long and happy life.
  18. Great book. My favorite Orwell is Animal Farm but 1984 is quite chilling and sadly prophetic.
  19. All slurs are pokey-fun terms when directed at someone else. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breeder_%28slang%29 Just because my wife and I choose to someday procreate does not lower us to the levels of animal husbandry. It implies that those with children are somehow less than humans (by being compared to livestock) for procreating. You may not think you're being offensive but understand that there are others who use that word to show their hatred and disdain for those in traditional marriages who choose to procreate.
  20. So wait, derogatory slang/surs are fine against heterosexuals?
  21. Buying a house is not fun at all. We had the home inspection yesterday and I'm wondering what I'm getting myself into.

Piece of advice: never, ever, ever, ever, MOTHERFUCKING EVER buy an old "fixer upper". You will regret it for the rest of your miserable time in that house.

There is one situation in which I might buy a fixer upper: if I had enough money to pay someone else to fix it up. My wife and I have lived here since August, and while it's not a fixer upper we do need to pull the old lady wallpaper down and paint, but so far we've only got 3 rooms done, and that's if you count the master bedroom and bath as two separate rooms.

Luckily, I have family/friends who owe me money or favors so I will be calling all of those in to fix up as much as possible. It's not a total fixer-upper but it's a late 60s and we will be hiring out for the important stuff (electrical, carpet, flooring etc.) Paint and wallpaper at least my brother, sister and I can do. We just may end up having lawn furniture for a few months is all.

  22. Giving my new processor a workout by encoding a bunch of videos. So far it looks pretty good.

  23. At first I was going to say "Of course they do" but then I double checked and it was not the Future Farmers of America sending the emails.
  24. Watching the Ken Burns documentary on Prohibition is quite fascinating. It's interesting to see how the issue of drink split people down religious lines yet had people from contridicting backgrounds (rich, poor and middle class, black progressives and white supremecists, socialists and conservatives. etc.) Very interesting to note that the most powerful political movement in American history was the Anti-Saloon league.

I just saw the episode of Community shot like it was a Ken Burns documentary and it was awesome.
