We've got a camera with a pretty decent zoom lens, I may have to try that...

Apparently claiming the preorder bonus ship can cause a game-breaking glitch. The gist is that the preorder ship comes with a hyperdrive, meaning the tutorial never triggers the part where you get a blueprint for a hyperdrive. Problem is, you can't craft things without a blueprint, so if you sell your ship and inadvertently buy another without a hyperdrive you're stuck in that star system unless/until you happen to stumble across a hyperdrive blueprint (or can find another ship to buy that has one). The solution to this is just not to claim the preorder ship until after you've finished the hyperdrive blueprint tutorial task, but it still sucks for those who inadvertently find themselves in this situation.

The plot thickens: Obviously given it's a random forum poster quoting an unknown reddit user quoting an unknown GAF poster it should be taken with an ocean's worth of salt. I don't actually care one way or the other, I have no real desire to be able to meet up with other people anyway, but it's weird that they would just lie about this (if that's really what's going on). Of course it's also possible that they have the feature turned off for the moment, like some other developer we've heard a lot about recently, due to server load, and that's why it's not sending that data.

Oh yeah, I totally agree, their communication is terrible. And there's already at least two more meet ups that have been put on Reddit where they came up empty.

Oh, neat, I've been eyeing Tharsis but haven't wanted to actually spend much money on it, but if it's just in the pay-what-you-want tier...

But if you post the follow-up tweets too: https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/763270760240713728 In context it implies that the "online features" aren't happening right now, even though discoveries are being shared, which implies that there's more online stuff than just the discoveries. Like potentially meeting other players. I'm not saying that's definitely true, and HG is notoriously bad at communicating, I'm just saying it's being implied. It's also entirely plausible that in addition to being in the same place you have to be connected to the same server to actually be able to encounter each other in realtime.

So Hello Games isn't quite outright saying, but is implying, that the reason they couldn't see each other is because too many people are playing right now and the servers can't keep up.

I've always had a stronger attachment to Looney Toons that I have to Disney's characters.

Star Trek Beyond. I agree Yorktown was badass, but I am unconvinced of the need for a megacity in space for what is essentially a supply outpost. Re Krall: My biggest quibble was

Well at least his save will get wiped when the game goes live. That's poetic justice. Apparently the whole "you can beat the game in 30 hours thing" relies on an exploit that gets you infinite warp cells, which is fixed in the patch, which makes the claim even sillier. It's more than just rushing the game, it's rushing the game and using exploits to do it faster than should normally be possible. And having now been reminded that Steam refunds are a thing I'm almost certainly going to be preordering this on Wednesday or Thursday assuming the console buzz isn't super bad.

Rumor has it a group of Republicans are going to back a former CIA officer and congressional aide, Evan McMullin, as a third-party alternative to Trump. I honestly can't decide if I think such a candidate would take more votes away from Trump or from Clinton. My gut says Trump, but part of me wonders if McMullin won't provide another alternative for disenchanted Republicans who might have considered voting for Clinton.

Who is it? I can ban them!

So basically it's like the rest of the DCCU.

Yeah, they've done a really good job of squandering the initial interest.

I won't defend imperial measurements, because I agree metric is better in all ways. That said, that Fahrenheit comparison is off-base. Sure, it seems random when comparing it to when water freezes and boils, but that's not what the scale was based on. 0 F was set for the temperature of brine, chosen because it self-stabilizes the temperature so that you can get a good baseline anywhere. He chose 32 F for the temperature of an ice-water mixture (which is also self-stabilizing) because as a power of 2 it was easy to create the gradiations because he just had to divide the scale in half 5 times, which is easy to do. Body temperature was set at 96 F for the same reason, being 64 degrees above the freezing point. So the scale has logic to it, it's just not decimal, nor based on freezing and boiling. All of that said, I still think we should switch to Celsius just for consistency's sake with the rest of the world.

So apparently the Articuno that one lady got was legit, it really did come from Niantic. That means the fact that they've now yanked it back out of her account is a real dick move.

It would be hilarious if he dropped out after the deadline to get a new candidate on the ballot.

Also, apparently the RNC is looking in to Trump withdrawing and selecting a new nominee. To me that implies they didn't think he would continue to act like this once nominated, but for the life of me I can't understand why they would have thought he'd change...

Hot Heart! That was completely uncalled for. No one deserves to be called a Moran! Context

I don't think the Khan business will, but he seems to jump right from one political landmine to the next, and I see no sign of that trend stopping.

They're not anymore, but they were when Marvel started on their universe. Cap, Iron Man and Thor were all B-list heroes, the A-list ones having already been licensed out and therefore off-limits. Now Cap, IM and Thor are bigger names, but that's because of the MCU.

I thought the whole point was upgrading your ship and gear...?

I was suggesting the colors in response to Niantic's (and a lot of other people's) claims that the footsteps were confusing. How they were confusing I can't fathom, but that's the claim. To lessen server load I suggested only displaying the distances like that for the one Pokemon you've highlighted, which should reduce the data to about 1/9 what's needed to display distances for the whole list.
-
Solution: use the same red-orange-yellow-green transition they do for the likelihood of catching a Pokemon. Ones that are far away start out red, and they fade toward green as you get closer. Solved, easy to understand. If they want to limit server load they can just have it only do it for one that you click on to track.

I would be more comfortable waiting if they would confirm they're actually going to fix it instead of maintaining radio silence. My assumption is they're going to fix it, but we don't actually know.
