  1. It's been a long time since I played it, but I seem to remember the last level of WoL being somewhat frantic without actually being difficult.
  2. Stuff like the controller keyboard. The 2.5mm plug just plugs in to the middle one, where stuff like the chat pad takes up all three plugs.
  3. 3.5 and 2.5mm. The 360's port is actually 2.5mm, the same as the ones on most flip phones/cordless home phones. You can actually use an old flip phone headset on the 360 with no problem.
  4. This isn't to do with freedom of speech, we're just prohibiting someone from expressing a particular viewpoint. If the public doesn't want to be exposed to it THEN DON'T WATCH IT! It's not like the film being permitted to be distributed in the country is the same as saying you have to go see it. This argument presupposes that those organizations should have that power, when my argument is that they shouldn't. At least as far as non-broadcast media goes (games, theaters, home video, etc). I'm okay with restrictions on the content of over-the-air, non-subscription media because there's no way to avoid having that thrust at you. I would liken broadcasting a movie to showing it on a billboard on a public street, where people could be subjected to it without their consent or forewarning, but outside of that context* I see no justification whatsoever to limit what can be distributed to willing adult consumers. *This is actually an overstatement, as I can also understand banning media depicting actual criminal conduct when the conduct was performed for the purpose of creating the media (child porn, snuff films, etc), but there the justification is to deter people from committing crimes for the purpose of recording it and selling the recording, not to prevent the audience from seeing it. I don't know how it works in other countries, but in the US you can make all the porn you want where the characters are minors, as long as the actors aren't minors, just as you can make films where a character gets murdered as long as you didn't actually murder an actor.
  5. How would one go about plugging a mini-audio headset into a PS3?
  6. I don't have any idea, I would assume a USB headset probably doesn't work, but it's not as if a mini audio port is a proprietary connector.
  7. Maybe they're subtly saying it's an ARG about something else, not Half Life?
  8. You can plug a standard headset into an MS controller no problem. And yes, it did take a long time before you could use flash drives.
  9. That's how it's supposed to be in the US, but in recent years it seems to have fallen apart, at least as regards software licensing. I remember reading a decision in law school where the court said EULAs on software are enforceable, even if you don't see it until the install process, because if you don't like the terms you can just return it to the store. Really? Have you ever tried returning opened software to the store before, Your Honor? How did that work out for you?
  10. Freedom of expression is the nearest and dearest to me of the rights in the Bill of Rights, but you take it slightly farther than even I would. Makes me feel like I'm not radical enough.
  11. To a degree, but only insofar as the terms might reasonably be expected to be included in the EULA to begin with. They can't put in completely insane stuff, like "by using this Software you hereby agree to pay a tithe of 10% of your personal, pre-tax income to Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc, now and forever, until death do us part, amen." and then try to enforce that. Or, they could try, but it ain't gonna happen.
  12. This is the best and most succinct explanation of American free speech rules that I've ever seen.
  13. No, it wasn't until the 360 S that it started having built-in wifi. And yeah, I feel like I remember something saying the Xbone has 802.11n wifi, but I can't actually find it.
  14. Does the Xbone have built-in wifi? Wikipedia doesn't say anything about networking.
  15. http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/27/microsoft-further-clarifies-xbox-headset-incompatibility/ 360-compatible headsets will not be compatible with the Xbone because: Actually, it did not require that. I mean, yes, higher bandwidth future addons may have required a different plug, but there's no reason that you can't also have a standard mini audio plug on there. It's not like they're big. The 360 controller's port is already a standard audio plug with proprietary data ports on either side of it, there's no reason something like that is impossible. Could it be MS wants to sell an adapter dongle? No, it's not like MS has a habit of leaving out near-essential items and charging for them later...
  16. I forget, does half 7 mean 7:30 or 6:30?
  17. I've started reading Hyperion on my wife's recommendation. The universe is certainly interesting, but I haven't decided how I feel about the structure of this first book.
  18. Why Ecuador? Since when has the US ever shown even the slightest respect for the sovereignty of South American countries?

Huh. My parents might tell me something over the phone about this. Meanwhile, my cousins over in Guayaquil will probably continue not giving a damn.

As WTF says, presumably it's an Assange link. Weren't wikileaks providing support to Snowden? Might be they have contacts with that gov't?

Yeah last I heard Assanges' British counsel was travelling and advising Snowden, which'd explain the trip to Ecuador.

  19. I just want to point out that this is the thread where a bunch of grown men discuss playing house.
  20. Maybe that's why they say it the way they do, but around here it's just "Go West on I-70 until you get to 77, and take that south until you get to 254" or whatever, no the's. Something else I just realized I never thought about is that in that example 77 is a US highway (technically "US 77") and 254 is a Kansas highway (technically "K-254"), but the only highways we put any kind of indicator on are the interstates where we say the "I", county roads the name of the county before the number, and then a few specific state roads (like K-15 is always "K-15", never just "15"). US highways we never say "US" before the number, and most state highways we don't say the K. Yes, we do say that.
  21. That how I read it in my head, even though I know it's supposed to be pronounced the way I would pronounce "color". The u just emphasizes the second syllable for me because I'm not used to seeing it. Unrelated: I've noticed and find it interesting that it seems that people on the west coast of the US put a "the" in front of highway names, such as saying "the I-10" instead of just "I-10" like we would here. Saying "the I-10" sounds as awkward to me as saying something like "the Rodeo Drive" or "the Broadway" would. *Edit* - As far as location for that, I've inferred it's west coast from TV and movies, but I could be wrong about where it's actually prevalent.
  22. If I were in charge the entire doctrine of obscenity (as it exists in US law) wouldn't even exist as far as media targeted at adults goes.
  23. Huh, I assumed that was the cord the PS3 had always had, since it was the same one as my PS2, Vita, and old Sony boombox thing.
  24. The topmost cord looks just like the PS3 power cord, so I would guess the PSU is internal.
  25. Would a USB stick really be cheaper than a shitty booklet? It'd be smaller, yes, but it's not like a 5mm thick booklet is really a space hog to begin with.
