  1. Normally I do check the box to show the "Edited by", I was just making a joke in this specific instance. Every once in a while I'll forget to check it, but I try to remember to do it.
  2. Actually the US government won't see any of it, the states will. Also, this doesn't affect the advertised price. Sales tax in the US is added on at the end of the transaction, so something advertised as costing $199.99 will actually cost like $215 after taxes. Amazon doesn't even have to knock their prices up, they just tack the tax on at checkout.
  3. In the US states don't have the authority to regulate businesses outside their borders, because only the federal government can regulate interstate commerce. With regular businesses that doesn't matter, because Kansas for example just puts a sales tax on transactions that take place in Kansas, because they have the authority to regulate that. However, most internet businesses are located in just one or a few states, but do business in all of them. Kansas doesn't have the authority to make a company located in Iowa pay them sales tax because they have no jurisdiction over that company. This law is essentially the federal government giving the states the authority to tax all transactions that are initiated by a customer in their state, wherever the business might be located. The reason I already have to pay tax on Amazon is because Amazon has a distribution center in Kansas so even under previous Kansas had authority to tax the transaction.
  4. We were having issues with people stealth-editing their posts to change what had been said. Like I did but not as a joke.
  5. The rumor that Arkham Origins is to have a multiplayer mode makes me significantly less interested.

Plus, as I mentioned, a tacked on MP would get the game to more people than offering a shooter that didn't have MP. Which would result in more gamers getting the message they wanted to impart.

So, going back to the original point of Ethan's status post: No, the MP for Spec Ops does not in any way affect the single player campaign. As an art form, sure, it may even be a little hypocritic of them.

The original worry is that tacking on an unnecessary MP takes away development resources from the main campaign. I actually made the point earlier that there is absolutely no way of ever being sure whether or not that's actually the case.

As for Spec Ops, I disagree with pretty much everything you've said. When the entire point of a game is to say something very specific, especially when it's making a serious commentary on its own genre, then you really want the package...

...package as a whole to be as tight and cohesive as possible. The entire "only buying if it has MP" demographic is not really what they were going for with the game. Like I said, makes business sense. But the impact of the product is diminished as a result.

  6. I have to check a box to make that message pop up.
  7. I already have to pay taxes on Amazon, but I wonder if it will also affect digital sales. Will Steam have to start charging sales tax?
  8. That's what I said, "Amazon". <.< >.>
  9. If I do end up getting it I think it will be the second Season Pass I've got, the first being AC3. I probably wouldn't have gotten that one except there was a ridonculous deal/pricing error on Amazon that made the special edition pre-order the same price as the regular edition.
  10. Supposedly the consumer version is going to have higher resolution, and that's something that can increase over time anyway without having to break compatibility.
  11. I've read it's going to be actual storyline dlc, but I can't find anything more specific than that.
  12. With a $15 credit on GMG. If I enjoy this one I'm going to use that credit to get the season pass.
  13. Really? You have to move the stick like halfway in any direction before it registers anything at all.
  14. @FDS: That arrangement would be godawful, because it would have to map the mouse movement to a control stick, it couldn't be 1-to-1 like on PC unless the game itself supported kb/m. I 100% agree that kb/m is by far the best shooter control mechanism though. @TCP: The DS3's sticks are just way too loose and have a dead zone the size of Texas in the middle of them. No precision whatsoever. I will say the scope system in Killzone 2 though where you use the stick for gross aiming and the sixaxis for fine aiming was pretty fantastic. Best controller setup I've ever used in a shooter (kb/m aside). I wish it had been used for all iron-sights aiming and not just scopes.
  15. I agree that VR has flopped a million times before, but I think it's a tech thing, and sooner or later the tech will get good enough to make it work and it will be awesome. Having not used an Oculus I can't say whether that's this or not. The one problem I could see the tech being unable to overcome is motion sickness, and really that just depends on how many people suffer from it and whether it's enough to prevent this being successful. The other thing is price but new gadgets are always hugely expensive at first.
  16. Yeah, I'm confused too. Are you sure you're not just like sick or something and blaming it on your breakfast?
  17. I'm with you there. I don't mind a spinoff in a different genre (for instance, Starcraft Ghost could have been awesome), but it saddens me when a beloved series moves genres to become more mainstream.
  18. Even better is getting an adapter to let you use a 360 controller so not only do you have decent triggers but you've also got sticks that aren't just amazingly terrible.
  19. Where states have wanted to teach evolution as just a theory next to creationism they do it under the guise of "intelligent design". Teaching straight-up Christianity like that would never fly in a public school.
  20. I had just enough Microsoft points on my account, and don't see myself buying anything else in the foreseeable future, so there you go.
  21. Bioshock 2. I really liked it, but goddamn did that ending drag on. I was emotionally done with the game about an hour before I actually finished it.
  22. It's got to be a religious private school.
