  1. You pay your taxes because otherwise the king's dudes will come fuck your shit up, just like real life. Though I'm sure you're right that the kinds of long-term stable societies that we see IRL won't happen in the game, it will probably be more like small, constantly warring factions.
  2. December's update. Potentially US specific? I don't know. Anyway, it's free Anomaly: Warzone Earth, which is a good reverse-tower-defense game that I recommend to anyone who doesn't already have it, plus a bunch of stuff on sale.
  3. Right, but that doesn't make the people that comprise the corporation suddenly un-people. It's the corporation that is supposedly too important to fuck with, not its employees/executives.
  4. Thank you again for KotOR 2, LP! I know I already thanked you in the other thread but I felt it needed to go in the official thank you thread as well.
  5. I'm pretty sure everyone here knows how to not hotlink if they want, but it's more work and I at least just don't care enough. I use imgur/dropbox to host pictures I've taken myself, but otherwise hotlinking is just easier.
  6. We know people could adapt to the pressure fine at least, because we have done (much much smaller scale) expeditions to very deep places before. Also, if you REALLY wanted to get ridiculous you could completely over-engineer the structures to be able to withstand having normal atmospheric pressures inside, but I don't think we have the materials technology to do that yet.
  7. People were expecting it to be a real "end" to the trilogy because that's what the devs were saying it would be.
  8. Yeah, idk, my only real problem with the ending was that it was rather anticlimactic, but that's about it.
  9. I already had my ship fully upgraded before I did a single naval convoy. I think I sent like 3 of them total.
  10. It really confuses me how people can't separate the corporation itself from its people. Lets assume that HSBC really is too important in our economy to take out like that. Fine. Throw the fucking executives in jail and let someone else run the company. Why is that so hard?
  11. Yeah, I think the problem might be on your end, FDS, because I can almost always see hotlinked images that you say are broken.
  12. Yeah, it's good, worth seeing. My only real gripe is that they're trying too hard to make it "epic", so every single action sequence goes on for way too long. *Edit* - Also, saw it in 48 fps 3D and nothing looked weird to me, so I'm not convinced that it's just that people aren't used to it. Anyone who's been using the smoothing feature on their HDTV shouldn't have a problem with it at all. *Edit 2* - Also, I don't really get why people are saying the CGI looks bad at 48 fps. It was as good as any other movie I've seen, taking into account that living things are always harder to animate than mechanical things. Certainly at least as good as LotR.
  13. Yeah, this. Some kind of pirate game that revolved primarily around that mechanic would be cool as fuck.
  14. Just ordered a screen protector for my Nexus 7 called Tech Armor. Kinda makes me want to go play some ME3...

    1. Waldorf and Statler

      Waldorf and Statler

the screen protector ended up being very disappointing I hear :P

    2. Hot Heart

      Hot Heart

Remember, you can detonate it to inflict damage on all nearby phones.

  15. Finished the first two episodes. It's just as great as everyone says it is.
  16. I agree that something smelling/tasting "metallic" is a very definite sensation, I'm just saying I don't think that's actually caused by the metal itself but rather associated compounds. It's just those compounds are (nearly) always present so as a practical matter it makes little difference. It's like how even though water itself is odorless you can still smell water because of the way the moisture in the air affects the way you smell the other things that are already in the air, like dust, etc. You're not actually really smelling the water itself, but from a practical, day-to-day standpoint it doesn't make any difference.
  17. Telephone is the American name for that game.
  18. I think metal itself doesn't smell or taste, and when you smell or taste it you're actually smelling/tasting other compounds associated with the metal, like trace amounts of rust on the surface, etc.
  19. Even assuming Valve made 100% of the money from every game (which is obviously not the case), most stuff I buy on Steam I buy so discounted that it'd take years to make up any serious loss they took on the hardware.
  20. I think this might be the one part of English that is used exactly the same on both sides of the pond.
  21. I feel like though part of any over-priced perception of the Wii U would be that in terms of hardware it's more comparable to current gen consoles than next gen consoles. $400 sounds about right for a new next-gen console. I also didn't realize the Wii U was that much more expensive over there.
  22. People would say they bought flight tickets here, as in "I bought two tickets to Hawaii next week", but if you're talking about the flight itself I think you'd just say booked.
  23. Yeah, I've heard that before I guess, and also "hop a flight", but both of those have implications of it being on short notice. You book a flight to go to Hawaii in 6 months, you catch a flight to go see your brother tomorrow.
  24. Did TFG leave out a word, or does "do" mean "Christmas Party" in the UK?
