Well there's your problem. Yeah, this thing would obviously just be intended to compete with consoles, not so much targeted at the kind of people who are comfortable and willing to build their own PC from scratch. *Edit* - whoa, several more posts made, may edit again.

I don't have mine professionally lit or anything, but I still like them to look nice. @Dean: There's two special editions of Infinite, one for $80 and one for $100. As far as I can tell the only difference is the $100 one comes with a big-ass statute.
-
@WaS: Not sarcasm. @FDS: While true, the default anything is always going to be designed to be as comfortable as possible for the largest number of people possible, which narrows the design considerably. There will always be outliers, and products to cater to them.

Wow, I'm retarded, I didn't even think about this game having its own LE. Derp. While the LE cover isn't amazing, it's fine looking, so I retract my complaints. Still think the regular cover looks like poop, but whatever.
-
Yeah, they can have a shitty default cover all they want, as long as they give me a reversible cover or a LE with a nice cover on it so that I can make it look pretty on the shelf. Seriously, having a reversible cover would cost practically nothing, but would make the issue go away all together.

Yeah, it's like how car seats and office chairs are all basically shaped the same (except for the really really cheap ones). They're all trying to fit the same human body, and there's really only one way to do that well.
-
Yeah, that criticism confuses me. I like covers that look nice on the shelf and are in some way evocative of the game, without necessarily being a literal representation of the game.
-
I think it looks great, but whatever, subjective.

PXOD Secret Santa 2012 -- Targets Assigned!

Sonic Generations is great. I especially loved the 2D levels. -
Yeah, but the collector's editions of ME2 and 3 had badass covers, so it balances out somewhat.
-
Yeah, I'm actually kind of confused why the Internet was acting like Oblivion looked so awesome. It looked like a crappy generic sci-fi to me. Also I don't like Tom Cruise.
-
Pretty sure he was just trying to pick two things that don't ordinarily go together. *Edit* - Also, where I still get hung up is the premise that the bland cover will actually attract anyone. Everyone just seems to be taking that as a fact, without giving any reason to believe it.

Taken down due to copyright claim, here's another: I don't understand what companies think they're gaining by removing their advertisements from Youtube. Doesn't look like it based on the trailer. In Titan AE Earth is completely gone.

I'd say so. Unless it's a game you want to keep for yourself or have someone else you'd like to give it to instead. -
But they do turn people off to stuff. There have been a bunch of times (granted when I was younger and not as informed about games) that I ignored a game on the shelf because the cover made it look bland and crappy, only to (sometimes years) later find out that it was actually a really good game. If I saw that cover and didn't already know what Bioshock was I'd assume it was some shitty knockoff shooter and ignore it. That WAS the reaction I had to Uncharted 1, for example. Obviously Uncharted 1 sold fine, but can anyone here say whether that was because of or in spite of the box art?

My understanding is that the hardware won't be (easily) upgradeable. Gabe said something like "If people want something they can mess with the hardware on, then they can build their own PC". That said, I'm sure the hardware will be updated as time goes on, and since it's going to be running PC games the transitions can be smoother, they don't have to have a hard cutoff between generations. *Edit* - I could see system specs in the future being listed with a category for SteamBox. eg:

Some more. I really like this version of Winter Wonderland: Plus a couple of classics that must be mentioned: Not explicitly Christmas, but it's certainly wintery.
-
Not actually a Christmas song, but I associate it with Christmas for some reason anyway (probably because deer season is early December): Also, must have to mention this:

Q's voice jumped out at me instantly, but didn't realize that was Mr. Gibbs on the ship. Why I came in here: Super stoked.
-
Back to the box art: I still think there's no excuse for how boring and bland that box art is. Something based on this would have given the exact same shooty badass vibe, but looks so much better.
-
Yeah, Firefly only ever got one season of like 12 episodes.
-
Hmm, I'll have to try it then. I thought it was a direct sequel.
-
I like to wait until December to put up the tree and house lights and stuff, but because it's best to do that on a weekend it sometimes happens in late November, depending on when the 1st falls. This year it was perfect since the 1st was a Saturday. I'm pretty sure we've got all our shopping done too, so we're sitting pretty.
-
Okay, but that doesn't change that it's building on the first one, which I haven't played through because the controls just felt wrong.

His name's Jack Harper and the guns at least look like something straight out of Mass Effect. Hmmm....
