  1. If you mean getting charged per message to receive them, I think anymore that's just on the really low-end plans.
  2. Makes sense to me, because then they can advertise internet access for $20/month or whatever and then tack on $10/month for the majority of their customers who don't buy their own modems. *Edit* - Maybe it's a US/UK thing, but over here it's common practice to charge extra for every little thing, regardless of the industry.
  3. Every ISP I've ever had would supply me a modem for a monthly fee, but buying one on my own pays for itself after about 6 months. Don't know about TFG's ISP though. Also never had one that would supply an all-in-one modem-router.

In the US case at least there aren't any fines, it's damages owed to Apple for violating their patents. The idea is that if Samsung had done it the proper way and licensed the technology from Apple they would have had to be paying Apple, so Apple is entitled to the money they should have been getting.
  5. I was just trying to help fuchi understand dean's point, not make one of my own. I have no idea what the feature does or does not do in actuality, having never used Windows 8 or looked in to any of this.

It was some pretty integral parts, like the pinch-to-zoom functionality. That gesture just makes intuitive sense on a touch screen to accomplish that action, and is incredibly basic to the functioning of basically every app that even has a zoom feature on a touch screen. That's not just a bell or whistle.

Yeah, to me a lot of their interface patents seem like if Ford had patented the steering wheel.

Some of the thing you can avoid, like the pop-back when you scroll too far, but it would be hard to avoid making it more or less rectangular.
  9. Right, that's what dean meant: Microsoft's doing more monitoring than can really be justified, when all they would need to do is what other companies are doing.
  10. Just finished it. I actually think it might be my favorite game of the series; the gunplay felt better, it had less of a reliance on bullet sponges, and the final boss fight was much better. It didn't have the big scripted sequences like the other games, but those were never my favorite parts anyway. My only real complaint is that once, just ONCE, I'd like an Uncharted game where
  11. That was cool. I was expecting that computer-animated thing to show what was happening.

Apple won $1 billion from Samsung in its patent infringement suit in the US, though I'm sure Samsung will appeal. The judge hasn't ruled yet whether or not Samsung is barred from selling the infringing devices.
  13. Lmao, when I first saw the original video I thought they were saying gundam style at the beginning.
  14. Wow, that's a shitty parody, unless their goal is to make it seem like real news (unlike the Onion). That is not nearly over-the-top enough. Also, that wasn't the site I first read it on, I found it elsewhere and kept clicking through sources to get to the original to post here, so I probably didn't read it as closely as I should have.
  15. This is 3 years old, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it didn't make big news when it happened: Robot programmed to love goes horribly wrong.
  16. The creditors didn't even have to buy it, it was "assigned" to them to cover the debt the company owed them.
  17. Mirror's Edge is yesterday's Daily Deal on Steam, so it's 75% off ($5) for a few more hours. If you don't already own it, well I hate you, but you should buy it now anyway.
  18. Does the present tense indicate this is something you do regularly and repeatedly, or is this just a one-time thing that you chose not to write in past-tense?
  19. Oh my god, that's like night and day. *Edit* - If it was that easy, why didn't the devs just do it themselves?
  20. Okay, so there's crazy, and then there's whatever the hell this guy is...
  21. Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.
  22. From that Cracked thing, this cracked me up (I'm sorry, I couldn't figure out a better way to phrase that): I was really disappointed at that part of the movie.
  23. Yeah, usually this kind of thing is like "We've all worked really hard on this and are really proud of what we've been able to do, and we can't wait to get it out there. We hope everyone else likes it as much as we do." whereas this one's all "Yeah, we basically made the greatest game of all time. Don't expect it to ever be topped. It's all down hill from here." @Dee: I know! But don't worry, I'll show them soon enough...
  24. I'm pissed, but it's only like 3 weeks, which is actually less than I expected it would be.
  25. I really really liked GTA 4. But I agree I'd rather see an RDR sequel.
