You should sing the review to the tune of Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

  3. So, I quit that Call Center job and got a much better shiny new job now. Working from home as a Copy Editor. Bloody awesome.

I work from home as well. Be sure to move around every once in a while! If you can work from a laptop and you have one then it's good to change up your environment

No laptop, but thanks for the advice, FDS!

  4. Will be working until the end of month on the new job. If it goes well, I get to do it long-term. Here's to hoping!

  5. Had an interview for a job today. They sound happy with me and want me to do a trial work day on Friday. If I get this, I'll be able to afford a better college next year.

Would it be bad form to mention the high suicide rates? Also if something fucks up on my end, we might get to chat one day. Maybe.

It's not a suicide prevention call center >.> It's just surveys.

No I'm meaning the high suicide rates of call centre workers. Though I figure surveys to be on the low end of that compared to the folks that try n sell kitchens.

  6. I still don't really get how a gun surprised you. The moment you knew he was going to assassinate someone, I figured firearms would be a viable option. Here's the thing, people here are hating on shooting. I think that's silly. Don't hate on shooting, hate on being pigeonholed into shooting. Mirror's Edge example? The guns were shit. I also never used them. The game wasn't worse for it. Anyone here play Vampire: the Masquerade? Good part about it was that you could choose between stealth, social and combat at any point in the game. Except the ending, because it turned into a grindfest. That didn't mean the actual combat was crap, that meant that it was crap that you -had- to use combat. So, what did we see in the Watch_Dogs gameplay? We saw subterfuge, hacking, melee combat and ranged combat. For all we know, if you had missed the hacking of the traffic lights, you could have waited for your target elsewhere (like in the actual gallery). Do not hate on shooting. There is nothing wrong with shooting. There is only something wrong with forcing shooting in a game, but that is true for any mechanic. And that trailer doesn't strike me like the game forces you to go guns blazing anywhere.
  7. Can you seriously blame them? I mean, seriously, I think people have every right to be wary.
  8. I still don't understand what the issue with shooting is? Do we consider that mechanic in games shallow in this day and age?
  9. If I were to mention Fable, that would be the exception? ;P I won't believe it's not scripted until I see it for myself. For now, my attitude is: if scripted - meh; if dynamic - holy crap amazing.
  10. That would make me interested in it.
  11. I think saying something is mature gameplay is quite frankly stupid. It means as much as me saying "Sonic Generations was quite a salty experience." Dean, your image of number 1) is not even gameplay, it's aesthetics, story, atmosphere, but not gameplay. 2) Has nothing to do with maturity. It has to do with how well-crafted a game is. You can have a mature story. I have no idea how you can even label gameplay as mature or immature though. Gameplay is just mechanics. That's it. I'd even argue that visual aesthetics can't be labelled as mature or immature, because it's either appropriate or inappropriate for the game. You use "mature" for quantifying narrative. That's it.
  12. I'm working on a write-up regarding modern retro games. Specifically, successful attempts at making retro games or building upon oldschool gameplay, as well as failed attempts which just stuck 8bit sprites in a game and called it a day. Now, I have my own list at the moment, so I'm not asking anyone to do my work for me. However, I haven't played all the retro indie games (despite writing for Press X or Indie), so are there any examples you guys have that are worth mentioning? Something that frustrated you too much over trying too hard to be oldschool hardcore, or something that you thought captured oldschool gaming properly? Please keep it to this "generation", even though that means little for PC and Indie.

  14. Well, in the process of switching college. Parents are gonna give me hell, but I'm looking for a job to pay for my own life during the next year. Wish me luck...

  15. Beat Legend of Grimrock. Pretty good for the asking price.
  16. Even if this were available for PC (I assume it will be at some point, as a good deal of XBLA Indie games are), I'd skip it. I generally believe in death of the author, but I want to give Fish money as much as I want to give it to CliffyB.
  17. I hope it's good, but like Johnny said, it's Gearbox. And the only Gearbox game I thought was good was Opposing Force.
  18. I find this whole forum offensive. Except for Connorrrrr. He's cool.
  19. In case anyone was interested in what the captions said, it's only "Oh so witty" flavor you see in all magazines. Only useful info is that the lion boss is called Guardian/Watcher of the Crypt.
  20. Because parents are too lazy to keep track of what their children are doing, so the state/corporations will step in? I don't see why you should restrict or punish any criminal beyond what they are sentenced to if they served their time. But again, I know the US has some strict laws over sex offenders, so maybe this isn't that odd there. It certainly strikes me as a bit too much.
  21. http://www.gamespot.com/news/sex-offenders-banned-from-online-games-6370214 Thoughts? I'm not really familiar with US law, so wouldn't know if this is excessive in that context... But I'm not really sure I agree with this.
